Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.
Isn't it like a 2.5 hour drive from Houston - Austin? Couldn't you just buy a 1 day ticket and be back at home by like 2am the same night?

I'd be happy enough with this, get to see two shows without travelling, and hopefully they play some more in the general vicinity.
They'd probably get 2 hours like The Cure did last year. Thankfully the single day tickets are back.
The idiots in charge of scheduling will probably put The Replacements and PJ on at the same time, like they did with Neil Young and Jack White. Hopefully the Replacements play a late night show.
People really don't know what comps are, WTF!! how long have you been going to concerts??? You have never received comp tickets to a show??? man I am getting old!

Every headliner that plays ACL has to sign a contract/agreement that they will NOT play within a 3 to 4 hour drive away from Austin before, after and now I assume since it's 2 weekends, in between the festival. A few years ago Robert Plant played Houston and Dallas during the same week he played ACL, but he wasn't a headliner.

Agreed. Last year both QOTSA and Silversun Pickups played Dallas on weekend dates while also playing ACL, however they weren't headliners. So these will be the only PJ shows in Texas this year, sorry Shep.

Seriously? That's a lot of bitterness when you're getting a show 2.5 hours from home.
Depeche Mode played Houston and Dallas before ACL last year. It was about 2 weeks before, so it might be a long shot and not work too well timing-wise for a tour schedule, but a Houston show could still happen.
Muse, Atoms for Peace and The Cure also played shows in Mexico around/between the festival dates. I don't see many people mentioning Mexico, but I reckon that's a pretty decent bet.

Yep. Bottom line is if they want to play in Houston and/or Dallas they would work it into their schedule. If they don't they won't.
I still can't get over fact that we are getting 3 PJ shows in Texas in one year's time.

Jesus dude chill, it's like 3 hours away at most. Also, draining off your economy? Austin is the fastest growing city in the country (not that Hou is very far behind though) I don't think it needs any help with the economy... Which is booming.

This gets thrown around every year, and it's simply not true. Hasn't been true for years. Coldplay played Dallas when they headlined, DM played Texas cities last year. Hell, Bob Dylan played Stubbs the year he headlined, which is like a couple miles away from Zilker Park. This was a thing in the mid-2000s, but not anymore. I'm still holding out for more Texas dates!

Waaaaaah. Dude relax. I'd love 2 weekend shows in a row 2.5 hours from my house. And this is coming from someone who lives in the "cool" city of NY.

Taxes on businesses located in Houston and Dallas pay the salaries of a lot, if not most, of gainfully employed people in Austin (i.e. government and spin off business). The city of Austin would not be growing at it's current pace if it wasn't for a lot of my city's tax dollars.
At the same time, I agree, my post did come off as harsh. Apologies. I have no reason to hate on Austin.
I am just frustrated that a city the size of houston can be so blatantly ignored.
furthermore I'm frustrated with the rest of the schedule...
yes, Austin is a 2.5 hour drive away at a cruising speed of 80 mph, however, I have no interest in anything on that line up other than PJ, gaslight, and beck... so I'm going to sell my 3-day passes, as the rest of the weekend is not worth it.
To all those people planning on going to austin: get on your hotels now. the shortage of hotels in the city and the massive gouging that they all do on any weekend rates, you're going to be paying through the nose for a hotel room.
And good luck to me, who will be looking for just a sunday night hotel room.... it's going to be damn near impossible. I am not driving back on sunday night... I have done that drive twice in the past, and almost died on both attempts (once I was driving, once someone else was)... fatigue and the darkness of Texas roadways is a dangerous thing and I wouldn't recommend that drive to anyone...
undecided if I'll even make the trip... yea... spoiled rotten attitude I know... i just have visions of a very similar setlist to the '09 ACL shows, and chances are there will be two or three shows at Moody (the national just did 3 in a row!) - all of which i'll likely miss out on cause they will be during the week... more inclined to try and hit any of those tapings instead of the main festival set...

Sorry you're pissed man. The average age person moving to Austin every day is about 26 though, so I don't think many of them are moving for government or state jobs. I may be wrong, in fact I probably am, but there's a crap ton of jobs here in the service industry, construction, and software right now, as well as a major growth in independent businesses. You may be right, but I've never heard anyone say anything about Houston or Dallas being the reason Austin is growing so fast. The lack of state income tax and low cost of living combined with very low unemployment rate and lots of job opportunity is what is making people everywhere move to Texas in general.
Hope you get over the grumpiness and realize you can come to atx and spend Sunday night here and it's not the end of the world.
It's not a lock that Houston won't get a show. The "non compete" can be negotiated. As others have mentioned, sometimes the bands do play Houston (though in recent years less bands do). I just bought ACL tickets and am keeping my fingers Houston gets a show also. Once tickets sell out, we should get additional tour dates.
I think the thing that bothers me more is (I agree with Shep in) that I only want to see PJ, so I don't have any interest in purchasing a 3 day pass to ACL. I'm glad they will offer single day passes, but I hear those can be hard to get.
Will hold out Hope that they will also play in Houston.
