Cliff I can't imagine having to go through that. What a horrible experience. I know you've mentioned your mother in law has been having health issues over the last few years. I'm sorry to hear of her passing, especially in this way. Just awful.www.myspace.com0

Cliffy6745 said:This city is in the absolute crapper right now...fun story how about public servants/1st responders treat their citizens.
2 weeks ago to the day my wife and I were out to dinner when we got a call from a family friend that my mother in law was found unresponsive her in car, double parked outside said friends house, and that the friend had just called 911 but it didn't look good. Frantic half hour, but long story short, she passed away in her car (likely from a heart attack. She had health issues so the fact she is gone wasn't completely unexpected but she was on the mend and doing well, so also unexpected at the same time).
My wife gets there before I do, as I get child care for our daughter, but by the time either of us gets there fire/ambulance is there and they have a sheet over her while still in her drivers seat. Still double parked. No police. This all went down at like 7:15, I was there by 7:45'ish, and no cops. She's gone so not an emergency so while annoying, understandable. The only understandable part.
1 cop gets there around 8. Without even taking a look at the body, asks us what drug problems the person has? Um, none, it's a 67 year old woman on oxygen. My sister in law starts asking questions that he clearly can't answer (she was a bit frantic as expected and wanted very detailed answers that no one had) but instead of saying anything mildly helpful said "I see a lot of stuff, you probably wouldn't like anything I have to say"
Fast forward maaaaybe 30 minutes, so 8:30'ish. The cop determines it's natural causes and "turns her over to us"...double parked, on a street in Port Richmond. Ambulance, Police and Fire all bounce and leave us with a car with a dead body in it illegally parked at 8:30 PM with literally no direction on what to do. Cars driving by a car double parked with a body with a sheet over it. Gawking. We block the window so people don't stare and call the funeral home that the family unfortunately has a solid relationship with. Funeral home needs to get in touch with the Medical Examiner before they can come and touch the body. 90 minutes later (and a few calls between us and the funeral home) we get call that they are on our way. They get there around 10 or so, get her out of the car and take her...
90 minutes we had to stand in the street blocking people from staring at someone we love. If the police/fire came across a dead dog in the street that was blocking traffic, they would have done more to move it out of the street. Fire house was 150 yards away. Asked them to put her in an ambulance multiple times to no success.
So fuck this city, can't wait to not pay them taxes. Good riddance.
Fuck dude, that's pretty messed up of them. Sorry!

Sorry to hear that you and your family lost a loved one...and that the family members had to deal with this. That is something that has to really fuck up a process that is so tough to begin with. The love he receives is the love that is saved0

That sucks, cliffy. Sorry for your loss.
as a former fireman, I can tell you that would never happen in Vegas. Cops or firemen can’t “call” a dead body. One or the other has to remain on scene until the coroner arrives. Once the death is confirmed, the coroner is going to take the body.
as an aside, as a captain, I was very “big” on my crews treating our “customers” with respect…didn’t matter who they were…treat them with respect at least until we were back in the rig. Cops? Not so much. I saw a lot of asshole cops and voiced my displeasure more than a couple of times. If I had known then what I know now...

Thanks, all. Appreciate it. Been a tough couple weeks but appreciate the well wishes. Obviously a pretty horrific experience and my wife has actually moved on from it, the experience not the loss, easier than I have. I’m repulsed by every city employee I came across that night.
I was going do have this rant about Philly and this situation just as you guys were starting the playoff run but I refrained to not rain on the parade lolol.
Very much appreciate the thoughts here!0 -

I literally turned around and they were gone in 30 seconds. Not a single question, thought, etc.
So appreciate all this and sounds like Vegas has much better people serving them than this city.0 -
That's fucking incredibly shitty, Cliff. I'm sorry.Johnny Abruzzo said:I am opposed to the state impeaching him but I can't believe they didn't even apologize. And yeah, it does feel personal, especially as Nicolas was a young activist for gun safety and voting rights.
Anyway, let's go Phillies. If we win the pennant hopefully everybody is able to stay safe.
Now, this is Dayron (below, with my wife), when he was younger, before he was homeless, before being another Black boy spit out onto the streets because no one gives a fuck about the people in this city, especially those of color. Dayron is part of that crew that shot that kid. This is in no way make what happened to Nicolas any less reprehensible. It's that it's fucking heartbreaking all around and you see the full cycle of how this shit plays out.
But I absolutely stand by the thought that the perception of what is wrong with this city and who it's wrong for is completely skewed. But onto the next shooting to make the news and continue to drive The Fear. Unless it happens in the suburbs. Then, it matters. Then it's an actual big deal, because "that's not suppose to happen here."
Times Like These are what makes sports absolutely trivial, and they certainly are - hopefully everyone here can acknowledge the privilege it is to spend as much time and money as we do on it.
My absolute worldview is: at the end of the day is if you want the best for your kids, then you should want the best for all kids. Increase public education funding, increase the social net for those at the bottom, get rid of school district boundaries, give the most to all. A problem for one is a problem for all, takes a village, etc etc, so on and so forth. Because I absolutely fucking guarantee you that less 19 year-old-Dayrons end up walking the streets if this is true.

I voted for the $363MM school bond in Cherry Hill a few weeks back, utilizing some of that logic. The "old me" would have pulled my kid and paid for private school before voting for that.
I'm a few steps ahead of that "old" asshole. Still working on it, but at least I thought of all of the kids and the importance of opportunities, and not just my own kid and what we can give him.
City problems are a whole different level, of course.
Sports is for sure trivial, agree there as well.

Didn't know JA was playing with them. I wonder what that tailgating crowd is like.
I'm down here (well, a bar) but I've been gargling warm salt water. It's time to lose this voice. They really need to get this one.0 -

Ideally it's something like this: Falter for 3 innings, Syyndergard for 3 innings, Robertson for 1, Efflin for 1, Alvorado for 1 - but yeah if Nola can do his bullpen work in the game that'd be awesome.
They stole that game. More bad defense, only 1 homer (a solo - why does Schwarber lead off anyway?), tough pitching matchup. Gotta give it to Topper for managing every game like it's Game 7.Spectrum 10/27/09; New Orleans JazzFest 5/1/10; Made in America 9/2/12; Phila, PA 10/21/13; Phila, PA 10/22/13; Baltimore Arena 10/27/13; Phila, PA 4/28/16; Phila, PA 4/29/16; Fenway Park 8/7/16; Fenway Park 9/2/18; Asbury Park 9/18/21; Camden 9/14/22; Las Vegas 5/16/24; Las Vegas 5/18/24; Phila, PA 9/7/24; Phila, PA 9/9/24; Baltimore Arena 9/12/24; Pittsburgh 5/16/25; Pittsburgh 5/18/25

I’m totally on the Phillies bandwagon, BUT……
last night, my wife was commenting on how bad the Padres unis are….I went to search their city connect jerseys (pink, sea foam green and yellow) and was gonna ask her, “you think THOSE are bad?”….I came across this….apparently, the back up catcher dropped an F-bomb on live TV, like Lincecum did years ago. I love this shirt. wish I had a LFGSF.

Went to bed around the 7th inning (had to be at work at like 3:30am) so missed the last few innings. But yeah defense was on and off throughout the night, times looked great, other times bad.Johnny Abruzzo said:Ideally it's something like this: Falter for 3 innings, Syyndergard for 3 innings, Robertson for 1, Efflin for 1, Alvorado for 1 - but yeah if Nola can do his bullpen work in the game that'd be awesome.
