Hearing from multiple people that know a lot better than me that Philly won it's bid for some FIFA World Cup action in '26. That's cool and not cool at the same time. Down at FDR they built out some pretty awesome trails and there's a good chance they're going to destroy them all for 8 soccer fields because there's a requirement to have practice space or some dumb stuff. Don't understand why they can't, ya know, just us all the infrastructure that's everywhere else around here.
250th anniversary of the country and games in July. We have always been a lock.  And probably a good chance US team plays at the Linc on July 4th.

we are also getting MLB All-Star game and hoping to get NBA and NHL All-Star games that year as well to match what happened in 1976.  that is going to be a wild July 4th year around here.
I don't think it was always a lock. I think we were the last city in, potentially the 2nd to last.

    Locks
    Atlanta
    Dallas
    LA
    Miami
    New York
    Seattle

    Almost Locks
    San Fran
    Denver
    Boston

That leaves one additional spot and I do think Philly gets it.  Can see Nashville getting one too and maybe Boston being dropped this time around?

Well with FIFA I guess nothing is a lock since it's so corrupt.  Never thought they'd turn down the city on the 250th anniversary though and with Lurie and the Eagles on board.   I think I heard the official announcement is June 7th

I thought Atlanta and Boston were iffy because lack of grass fields. Plus Atlanta is only the dome correct?  There's is not retractable I don't think.  I guess like Met Life they will have to put grass over those fields.

Wonder if they will play final in LA or Met Life.

And aren't there early games in Mexico and Canada as well?

3 in Mexico, 3 in Canada, 9 US? I think Philly is only getting one because of the America 250 push.

Boston is a lousy place with that football stadium being in the middle of nowhere. They even have a special access road for premium ticket holders. Philly's is at least within city limits and easily accessible by public transit.

10 in US. 16 total, I believe.  June 16th, I thought I read recently, but could be earlier

I think they all will have to put down grass for it.  Atlanta has just had such a great taking to it since they got their team, with the new stadium, I just can't see them not getting it

Happy to report that Rose Tree Woods Swim Club remains blissfully trapped in 1958. Broomall gonna Broomall.

I wonder if they'll just give it to Dusty Wathan, since it seemed like all the players like him.

Edit--Dave, yeah I don't know. Don't care either way, but I guess it is odd that we don't have a team.
Feel the same way, don't care too much, but it is kinda odd that we don't

I think it's time to get rid of Giradi now. Or something has to be done with this team ASAP!

well i'll take cred for that

Girardi had some baffling moments and was pretty smug about defending his moves. Change for change sake can help sometimes so don't mind the move. That being said the bullpen arms still mostly suck and what is killing this team. They have to figure something out there.

The grand scheme is that this teams complete lack of developing of talent kills them year after year.  1 decent arm in the bullpen from their system, 1 starter and average to below average position players from their farm system.  If they ever want any sustain of success they have to figure this out.

Schedule has been absolutely brutal so far though.  I saw a note the other day that there is a stretch in I think July-August where they play 39 games and the 7 against the Mets are the only ones against teams with winning records.  They have played very few games against bad teams so far.

hot take: they still make the final wild card

I think they have been underspending on the farm system, even compared to the Tampa Bay Rays - I mean remember when they wouldn't pay Davey Lopes like $10,000 more for coaching 1B and helping the team to like a 95% stolen base percentage. I don't have back up for that, but I feel they have been penny wise pound foolish.

Imo it all comes back to a sports team's greatest competitive (dis)advantage is ownership. From all accounts they have no idea how to lay out a vision, be consistent, and stick to a plan when it comes to investing in ...anything. Sure Middleton throws money at high profile names, and that's cool, but they've basically overhauled their philosophy to player development, roster building, and analytics every other year. Talk about a true waste of money. It's especially comical how bad they are at the draft.
