I agree I generalized a little bit there yeah, but you have to agree that the average German can't speak English at all? I have been to Berlin and now Düsseldorf. The only way to communicate with them was talking German (which I can, a little bit though).
Norwegians are considered to be the second best English speakers in Europe after the Dutchmen that don't have English as a first, second, third or whatever language/tongue. Norwegians that can't speak English is from my point of view a rare phenomenon. (Maybe I'm generalizing again).
I love Germany by the way. (Kiss kiss :P)It's okay, It's okay
You don't have to run and hide away
It's okay, it's okay
I love you anyway

it was weird...i went to all the cities listed below in my tag and then sweden (everybody there seems to have some grasp of english - very handy but weird) - the only person in three weeks of travelling who had significant trouble understanding me was an american who claimed my accent "wasnt irish enough" to be irish....
sometimes speaking the same language wont help you at all!!0 -
Queued up all day, then the security said in German we all had to move back. A lady speaks in English to one, he bulders 'Wir sind in Deutschland, dann sprechen Sie Deutsch' (We are in Germany then you spreak German).
Not very friendly is it.0 -
Not particularly, no. Security guy has a point, but he's there to provide security and order, and the only way he's can do that to people who can't speak it is to compromise.Binary solo..0000001000001111000011100

*some* security people are not hired for their intelligence or being nice.

Sometimes you can achieve a whole lot more with somewhat nicer behaviour, like the security in Londen when we were in line, what a difference.
I mean the men in Dusseldorf we were dealing with at that point. And they didn't succeed in what they wanted us to do with their attitude.0 -
