  • Great show great set list .......wondering if anyone has photos of the girl(Michelle)who was brought on stage by Ed before hard sun, she is actually my girlfriend.
I was pretty stunned when ed called her up so didn't get a chance to grab my phone and take a pic.
I know the picture and taping policy at Ed shows but still thought I'd because it was an amazing experience for both of us.

    Thanks

Yet again a brilliant show. Such a great entertainer and gifted.
  • Such a great treat to have been to a Pearl Jam show and Ed's solo show within weeks of eachother. I'd love to see Ed & Glen's collaboration on Falling Slowly released for download - a highlight (of many). Had to chuckle to myself on the huge crowd reactions to Elderly Woman and Rise... I thought they were "my" special little songs :D

Poor Ed, seriously struggling with his massive hangover after hanging out with "God" the night before. I reckon that's the first time I've seen him on stage without a bottle of red! Gotta give it to him though, still put on a rollicking show!

I hadn't heard of Glen before, or the musical Once, but he was brilliant and I'll certainly be getting his album. Definitely worth get there early to check out his set.

Am always in awe of Ed's musicianship and watching Arc is a true performance. Loved the intimate atmosphere and was thankful, after having read some of the horrible crowd stories from the Sydney shows that, 1. There was noone wearing glitter near me. 2. Noone vomited in my vicinity. and 3. There were no w.@.kers in the house! :D
Thanks again Ed, can't wait to catch you again next time! xx

Great show last night. Such a great venue to watch an intimate performance like that.

I had not heard of Glen Hansard before but was pleasantly surprised by his performance. Very good and quite intense. Can play the shit out of his guitar and has a great voice. Will probably check out an album or 2 of his, was really impressed with him.

Ed was brilliant. Quite openly admitted (they both did) that they had a big night at springsteen and was well hung...........over. (join the club eddie i was feeling the same). hangover led to quite a few fumbled lyrics and mistakes on the guitar and uke. But made for a bit of good humour, especially their duet when glen stuffed up and made eddie feel better.

Got a few songs i hadnt heard before which is good. Really liked the 'into the wild' section of the concert. Those songs just sound amazing live. Wanted to hear drifting and immortality and got both. Immortality was an unplanned addition i think as glen came out to play hard sun but then quickly retreated. Patriot was a great unexpected surprise, i haven't heard that song for years and ed nailed it.

I have read reviews about crowds being annoying at ed concerts but last night was pretty good. few requests but you are gonna get that. Ed interacted pretty well with them and quite a few laughs. Best was a request for yellow ledbetter and ed impersonating mike playing the guitar.

also another funny story was the one about when he bought a ukulele on holidays with some friends. His job was to get the booze. So while waiting for his friends to come back he bought a uke and then sat on a few cases of beer and started playing the uke. Some random stranger walked passed and gave him a couple of bucks as they thought he was a busker. very funny stuff.

Being hung over and getting deaf didn't help him last night, all he could hear from the audience was "fuck you Eddie". What an amazing night again, only slightly disappointment with the seats given by 10C not worth the extra money, was half way on the floor.
His response to the idiotic "yellow ledbetter" request was hilarious "Oh yeah off course fucking Mike Mc Cready is here tonight, come on out Mike".
    Elderly woman gave me goosebumps!

Great night. Great crowd. Great entertainment. Great man!
I was so happy that he played Millworker. Was hoping he'd play it the last time he was in Melbourne but missed out then.

Other highlights for me was Speed of Sound, Long nights, Man of the hour and falling slowly. I love it when he sings low and deep. The sound at the Palais was perfect.

Oh and 10c tickets we not too bad either. Not as close as I'd hoped but 1st row of the stalls gives you a pretty good view.

    Bring on Tuesday night!
Im so happy with my righteous self..
  • Last show of a three show run, great way to finish. Loved the set list, Speed of sound, are you serious?! Was brilliant. Was real happy to hear millworker, one of my favorite Ed covers. Me and my girl were about 20 rows back just off to the side of stage, I noticed 2 empty seats up the front so just after elderly woman we jumped up and legged it down and grabbed them! Really enjoyed the rest of the show from there. The merch set up was ridiculous, waited for over an hour, and that was after getting there early to beat the rush. Got everything we wanted though. Even scored a couple of bootleg tees after the show, pretty cool designs too, better than some of the official tees. Was happy to see there is still some good bootlegging going on! Three shows, met the man, signed my tambourine, had our tickets at the Opera House swapped for front row, got a guitar pick and scored 3rd row centre last night, that's a great run right there. Thanks Ed, good times...
  • Great show.

Highlights were Speed of Sound and Man of the hour.

Never thought much of speed of sound on backspacer. Just perfect as a solo song.

Dedication of Man of the Hour to his Pop and the young men who lost their father in Sydney was a beautiful moment and a good representation of Eddie's selflessness.

Looking forward to another great show on Tuesday. Hope the 10c tickets are better than the public sale ones I had last night.!!

For those attending and want a poster get in early... they sold out before the show.

Fun show. Probably the sloppiest I've seen EV, but that just added to the amusement and entertainment of the evening. He had a ball, and so did all of us.

Another great Ed show! My first of two this tour so looking forward to Tuesday night.

As already mentioned Ed was hungover and it probably showed. A few little technical hiccups too but those things happen sometimes.

A great set...highlights for me IMMORTALITY ( thanks to the guy who yelled it out...only decent request of the night), Arc, Wishlist, Man of the Hour an the preceding story, Rise (huge crowd reaction) I'm One and Without You. Small Town also was a crowd fave of course!

Glen Hansard is just a star! Get there early. He was out in the foyer after his set! Might try and say thanks Tuesday night and show my appreciation! Ed and Glens duet is also a highlight.

    Thanks again Ed!

PS by the way unless you're there early don't worry about buying merch. Two ladies serving and a line a mile long! Go in sit down and enjoy Glens music!!!

Great show, first Eddie solo show i have seen and it met all my expectations!! found a guitar pick on the ground as we got up from our seats (lower lounge area row C) not a bad throw Eddie :-) then waited around after wards for 2 hours to see Eddie but missed him as it was getting a bit cold and late. does any body know if he came out back to meet the fans that were left?

  • Good show, the final of 4 I saw in the last week. In terms of how it went compared to the Sydney ones, definitely for me it didn't quit reach the heights of night 2 in Sydney where we saw an emotional performance, but still a good show indeed. It was amusing watching the palais staff nazis in terms of people standing in the first tier of the lounge, photos etc.

Onto the merch line, now experiencing Sydney for 3 nights I observed a significantly higher queue for merch than any show I've been to before. At the palais, you could sense issues with those queuing especially when it was learnt that multiple doors would open at once. The anxiety kicking in was palpable amongst the merch crazy folk. I abandoned any hope of adding to my shirt swag for the tour, especially with what could be mayhem once inside. Now as the doors opened, I observed that upstairs there was a merch stand. Optimism set in, I had to go upstairs as I was in the lounge, great, I'll queue up there. Up I go, signal to my GF I was heading straight there. Got to the top and nobody was there, bonus! Could have bought as many posters as I liked if I was a poster fiend. Got what I wanted, my GF was the second person to the table (and she walked slowly up the stairs). By the completion of my transaction every one else had realised merch was also upstairs, and I was surrounded by many others who finally realised.

TL;DR good show, be observant when entering as sometimes you can get to the merch table upstairs before anyone else.

The merch queue was snaked around in the foyer and half way up the stairs when I got there. I decided to join it at the very end (which was almost to the top of the stairs.) I turned around to see the other one upstairs and ended up being about sixth in the queue there. Just made it before everyone else realised it was there. There would have been many many people who would have missed out on Glens set being stuck in the queue for an hour or more.
Im so happy with my righteous self..
  • Amazing show last night, this was my second Ed's solo show in almos 3 years and it didn't disappoint. It was great to see Eddie little bit sloppy thanks to his hungover but still humourous and in the good mood, ready to interact with the crowd. For me highlights were my favs Wishlist, I Am Mine, Porch, Rise and above all Elderly Women (goosbumps all over...) Little bit disappointed that I didn't get any merch due to not being prepared to stand in the looooong queue and miss the start of the show. Finally, thanks 10C for the great seats :-)
  • This was my first ever EV solo show. And what a amusing night it was! Ed being hungover only added to the amusement like some said above. He joked around with the crowd with all the request coming in, especially when someone asked him to play Yellow Ledbetter! haha.. I was able to pick up the signed poster since I was one of the first 9 people to get in the cue! The staff managed that really well and people that I was in the cue with for the poster were cool too :) (please PM me or reply in this post if you're one of them!)
I was also there to see Glen Hansard. I have loved him since I saw his movie 'Once' couple of years ago. And OMG! he just killed it! Even if you don't know his music, get in there early! He will be your new fav. artist (after Eddie of course)

    Can't wait for night 2 and 3.

These sets have really been right on. I've never caught Ed solo; I'm really hoping for a few dates in the US soon. I'll settle for another PJ tour in the US, though. ;)
I've been fortunate enough to see Pearl Jam live.

I am hanging in the balance of a perfect finished plan
Like every sparrow falling, like every grain of sand.
  • Does anyone else think it is less than endearing to pay that much money for a shorter show with the performer hung over and flubbing lyrics?

I guess it's all a matter of opinion, a lot of reviews above have spoken about what an amazing night it was regardless of him being hungover. Some have said it added to the night. I wasn't there (went to the Perth shows), but as Perth is often the end of tours we often see artists (not necessarily EV) a bit weary from long tours. I personally think as long as the music is good to listen to and you leave the night smiling, you've got your monies worth. I like a bit of imperfection in live performance, shows the human side of the artist and makes it different to sitting at home and listening to the 'perfect' version of the songs on the CD. It is all in the way the artist handles it as well.

As far as the shorter set goes, he played 25 songs - I'm guessing this would have been around 2 hours (maybe a bit more). Not too shabby if you ask me. The sets do differ from show to show, this might be on the shorter side compared to others but there aren't too many artists who would be up to a solo tour with such long sets.

    no matter how cold the winter, there's a springtime ahead... PJ - Adelaide 98, 09; Perth 03, 06, 09, 14; EV - Perth 11, 14 (2 shows), Brisbane 14 (2 shows)
  • added to the night? Yeah I am much better at my job when I am hung over and continually mess up. to each their own
    I guess........
  • Added to the night as in gave it more personality I guess. Like more/funny banter from Ed. But you're right, some people might feel they are not getting what they paid for.

Like some PJ "fans" wouldn't be happy at a PJ concert unless they played all the hits. Hard to please everyone.

Probably te only disappointment for me was the crowd... No one stood up for Porch and Ed had to gesture everyone to stand at the end for Hard Sun! Hope tonight's crowd is much better!!!

Ed has flubbed lyrics at the Perth & Sydney shows when he wasn't hungover.

I was looking forward to reading Kat's post as I knew I wouldn't be able to remember everything Ed talked about but his
banter wasn't listed for this show. :( Any chance you could please add it in Kat.

A great day sitting outside the Palais with some other Fans it was great to hear their stories and share their company..
A good night the set was longer that what I thought it was. Ed did look really tired looking when he came over to the
left side of stage. He probably should've had the night off. I hope he felt better the next day.
But as always was a great night with a good setlist.
Wish there was a Beatles cover in there maybe next time. :)

Wish I was there again tonight and tomorrow night but back home now.
Just checked Brisbane flight just need to win lotto on the weekend.

Thanks for staying on after BDO and doing the solos.

Stoked Ed had a great night at Bruce just being a fan like us all. :)

    Thanks Ed..

Forgot to mention about Glenn loved what I saw of his set.. and loved his falling softly with Ed..
I could have sat and listened to him just talk all night.. best accent ever :)

I remembered this last night, How funny Ed was saying about Willie and Lucas Nelson's version of Just Breathe I think
he said something about looking at it on youtube then he proceeded to do a Willie impersonation. It was so good it really did sound like the version. So funny...
Can anyone remember what Ed said about Ron Wood can't remember it all.

Wish they did boots of these shows..
  • Hi aus_suz, Ed mentioned that Ronnie Woods invited him for a visit to have a music writing session together and that during that weekend he got little or no sleep, "as seems to happen when you're with Ronnie Woods". Ed then went on to play Just Breathe, saying it was a product of that weekend.

Oh how I'd love a boot of the show too - I could listen to Glenn & Ed's Falling Slowly all day!

On Ed's state... For me, I initially felt a little disappointed that he was obviously hungover, but only because I like to feel that he wants to be there on the night as much as I did. Did his music suffer? Absolutely not. Did I get value for money? It was a 2 hr show, so heck yes. On one hand you might view it as unprofessional. On the other hand you might view it as completely professional for going 'on with the show'. As someone mentioned earlier, the important test is did you walk away having enjoyed every minute... I sure did.
  • aus_suzaus_suz Posts: 9,372
Thanks Mrsroxysaranga thanks for that... u have a good memory.
Yeah these shows would be great released as boots..
Wish I had more than one show but happy I got one anyway, just being greedy... :)
