doesn't make much sense on the surface but the government always has a $$$ reason for everything.
the postal service could never be used for anything militant, they are normal folks like us, not brainwashed like some military and some police.

The USPS complains that they are broke, there's no reason that they should be making this purchase.

Are there too many Fidos disrupting mail service?

Ok, now that that joke is out of the way who can justify this?
  • rgambsrgambs Posts: 13,576
USPS is only going broke because Congress is forcing it out of business. Congress is forcing the USPS to pre-fund their Pension Plan for the next 70 years.
Does this make sense? Only if you want to drive it under and sell it off to UPS and Fedex.

detroit has more wild dogs than any other city. many neighborhoods in detroit do not get their mail delivered anymore due to the endless packs of urban wild ass dogs that have for generations not been taken care of by a person.

mail carriers there are attacked often. that is when mail delivery stops in that neighborhood. sure, they should be carrying some heat

detroit has lost somewhere around 500,000 residence in very recent times. 500,000 is the size of seattle (give or take)

many gang bangers in detroit & elsewhere enjoy a good old fashioned dog fight as their recreational activity. many of those dog are used up & turned loose on the streets. that is only a fractions of the dogs & where they came from. many people moved out & left behind their dogs & cats & whatnot. entires homes filled with furniture, clothing & whatnot.

dogs breeding, puppies being raised up on trash. those puppies growing up, breeding & the cycle continues. there are many decent groups trying to help but it isn't easy. these street dogs have thousands of houses & empty buildings to live in, like the old detroit car factories for example. it all still stands but vacant of people working. fucking weird stuff

  • Ooooo, so very scary. From the fob.gov website and the solicitation:

"This is a standard purchase of ammunition to meet the law enforcement needs of the United States Postal Inspection Service and Postal Police."

And I'm sure all the gun and ammo manufacturers will refuse to sell to the "big, bad Government" because you know, they have moral standards to uphold.

Consider the source before you get all outraged.

    Peace.

In all my understanding of purchases, not even the US military purchases or uses hollow point ammunition that the USPS is buying. I do not trust this one bit, and have always been in wonder why the US government is purchasing loads of hollow point ammunition. With hollow point ammunition for those who do not know, small entry hole, big exit.

See I view that as a problem in itself, it's just more authoritarian government under the guise of law enforcement. Couldn't one of the tens of other branches of law enforcement handle that? The USPS is so special that they demand their own???

Any suggestions on what we can do about it?

what better way to take the guns of hardworking americans than by using the USPS as spies and have them armed to be the frontline for weapons confiscation.

I remember when National Park rangers became armed. Many people were upset about that but not so much because they viewed it as "more authoritarian government under the guise of law enforcement" but more as an indicator that people/society had become more dangerous and violent. Sorry to say but none of this surprises me.

Are you sure it's more authoritarian government? It's been around an awfully long time. It sounds like you're advocating for more centralized government by having other law enforcement agencies do what they do. Maybe it's better to have the usps deal specifically with mail related crimes.
