Better yet, has anyone opened theirs yet and do not want theirs?
  • No surprises. Other than 3 different colors of vinyl. Played mine last night. Awesome little box, waaay over hyped, but will enjoy the crap out of mine! ;)

So you bought it not knowing if you really wanted it?

I know I did! I had Lightning Bolt fever and figured this would be fun to listen to, but as I dug out my xmas singles to listen to around xmas I realized that its a major buzz kill to be constantly flipping records when your trying to enjoy company and stuff. I much prefer the whole album experience. I think these are killer for anyone with a juke box though, how often do entire albums get put on 7".
  • Im sure Ill keep it. I have most of the vinyl. Only missing the colored PJ20 and the Blue lp of VS.

I wouldn't lose sleep over the Blue VS and Colored pj20. That's like trying to get the ITW pic disc. It's just silly...

You have the blue and orange fixer?

The hard part about the GITD test pressings is finding all 3. I've only seen each one available separately. The sound quality of the GITD vinyl is absolutely horrendous. Now we know why they didn't get past the test pressing stage.

They are more of a novelty than an audiophile record.

Yeah. There's just the third album of the set available here locally for $750. There's also a complete set of black test pressins for $1800. Evertybody has probably seen that one listed around.
  • yes ihave both copies of the fixer

You seem like a collector like myself. I know I would regret the crap out of it if I sold or traded my sevens box. For the artwork alone I feel it's worth it. To each their own, but I feel it's a cool set to have for a collector.

    But it did

there were 25 of each stamped cover made as promotional items, as well as the test presses which are out there too

and it seems worthwhile opening the sevens sets - even if you wanted to keep sealed - been readingthat a few people received boxes with vinyls missing yet having two of one of the others,

yeah I guess so on this occasion, I don't have the facilities to play these yet but it'll be prudent to make sure they are in order.

But, if you just have them as a collectors item (you mentioned you don't have anywhere to play it) - why does it matter? (Obviously assuming you keep other stuff sealed as well). Even if you went to sell it 10 years from now - you are clearly selling as is/sealed, so the buyer really can't get bent out of shape. Or, is it you hope to have something to play it on at some point, and don't want to be caught missing something when the time comes? If so, then why even consider keeping it sealed in the first place?

Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

I'm torn. I collect, but I also play. I usually like to have 2 copies of things..1 I play the other I keep sealed. I do this for most things. The only real collectors item that I opened was the colored PJ20..I just wanted to see the vinyl..lol, and I only have 1 copy of that.

Another vinyl I haven't opened yet is Binaural. I only have one copy and can't get myself to open it. I know CRAZY

Honest answer is I don't know, but as a collector, I keep a lot of things sealed. But if I did open it in a few years and find the set incomplete - the item wouldn't be a great collectible. This conundrum wouldn't even be one to consider if people hadn't posted their problems with this set, the thing would have just been placed in my collection.

Makes sense. Yeah - it's almost like you have to make the decision collect/use or risk totally devaluing at a later date based on that. I do wonder if folks post that stuff to get others to open (as if they're ALL open, the open ones have more value b/c there is no sealed alternative). But, maybe that's the cynic in me. :))

My thought on the sealed vs unsealed debate:

If you don't plan on selling it, why not open it and enjoy it. If your goal is to tuck these things away for years to sell later, then by all means keep it sealed. Just be aware that sometimes over time the plastic wrap splits or degrades. You can end up with damaged corners regardless...

I'll openly admit to be strange here, I couldn't give a damn about the future resale value, but I still like to keep certain things sealed.

I have no intention of selling my stuff, as a collector I value my collection as NIL. But one day when im lying in a wooden box - I hope my kids will be able to enjoy it or if not realise a little value and have a legacy off the 'old man'.

who knows,. but if I cant work it out, good luck to anyone else trying LOL

I am with pdalwsky on this, almost 100%. I collect for the fun of collecting, I also buy to listen. So if I can have one copy to keep sealed to collect, and one to spin I do that. But I could care less what my collection is "worth", in fact I hope my kids follow the same path I do, dig out my records when they're older and enjoy them.

When they can value the rare ones, I hope they find it cool to see an old PJ record that's still sealed, or a Sevens set or whatever. Cause I know I used to spin my Dad's Zepplin, Stevie Wonder, Doors etc.. records and if he had some sealed ones to show me that would be pretty cool.

I too wish I didn't know some were messed up, I didn't want to open mine, but probably will now.
