Anyone out there who could help me hunt this one down? I have other PJ vinyl to trade, most singles, xmas, LPs, and can offer cash.

Happy New Years everyone!

    Happy New Years everyone!

Be careful not to spend your money on the bootlegged version.

Thanks guys for the heads up on the fakes - I'm aware of the bogus versions floating around out there. And for those who don't, here's your guide to spotting a fake:

  • Makes me wonder how legit my copy is. Got it back in 98 off of ebay.

    Need to check this out.

If it was back in '98, chances are you're safe, but can't hurt to look! And when you're ready to part with it, just let me know :D

that "mine/"fake"" image linked on pjcollectors is my photo and everytime this comes up i'm embarassed i didn't take the time to better label the image- my terrible mspaint handwriting is forever etched into ten basketball lp identification. ~:>

Haha that's yours?! Great to know, and I don't mind the mspaint at all, you did a very wonderful thing to help your fellow tenclub brethren!

heh, yeah, i posted it on here when awareness/information was first coming in regarding the bootleg copies, and there were a few people looking for something to compare the "new" ones to. it was just meant for that discussion, really, and i didn't anticipate it going beyond that thread. i probably should have, though, and had i known it'd still be used 4-5 years later i'd have put a bit more effort into it!

definitely glad it's been helpful, though.

looks like we can access old threads on here now. it took a few minutes, but i did find the original thread where we kind of all found out there were fakes out there. watch the thread go from excitement to disappointment to awareness.

Got mine back in 1993 and it was hard to get then and was wondering why they were in such plentiful supply these days. Now I know.

There's one at the bay right now that exhibits signs of both real (purple not grey catalog number, crisp non-faded white ink) and fake (notch in sleeve, dark purple ink on basketball). Maybe worth taking a look at?

I thought the notch in the plastic sleeve helped determine that is was an original vs. the missing notch was a sign of a fake...Or did I miss understand...I got one along time ago and it has all the signs of being real (color, band print, faded color on vinyl), but it is notched...

You are correct cjzoly- notched outside plastic sleeve = original. Most fakes have the non-notched sleeves.

The one on the 'bay right now has all signs that it's a legitimate copy, and I'll go one further and say that the person listing this has done the best job I've ever seen at clearly explaining it's a real copy. VERY detailed photos (the etching of 'orlake' in the groove), even posted the pjcollectors link on spotting a fake. Very nice explanation. And the notch in the sleeve = original.

...now if they only weren't located in Australia, d'oh!

Oh I'm sure it would work out, my issue is the shipping costs and such. Don't really wanna drop over a $100 on this.
