Favorite Live Song instead of studio version?

I'm sure I'm not the only one but has anyone ever had a live performance completley change your perception of a song?

Mine personal fave in this category is Do The Evolution. When Yield first came out I didn't care for it too much. After seeing it live for the first time at the infamous Hartford 1998 fiasco show and now a bunch of times since I think its one of my favorites.

Even though I dont love the studio version, deep down I can't wait to see it live when at the shows.

DTE Rocks!

DTE is one for me and even though I liked Breakerfall I didn't know it would sound so unbelievable live.

I don't like the studio versions of WMA or State of Love and Trust, but I enjoyed both live.

Definitely agree on that one....WWS studio is far superior.

My vote goes for Grievance. I remember the first time i heard it was on the Letterman show before Binaural came out...watched that clip for days and loved the song...then the album came out with that lame studio version and its almost ruined the song for me.

Another vote would be Why Go.

Present Tense. I liked it, but wasn't really crazy about it until I downloaded the Chicago '06 show and heard it live. It's not my favorite Pearl Jam song (well, still don't really like the studio version all that much). I still get chills hearing Eddie sing that last verse.

Release. Again, didn't mind it, but found it rather boring in the studio. I heard it live, and my opinion toward it took a 180. Probably my second favorite song - and I've got it as the opener both shows I've been to. ;)

Do The Evolution. As it's been said before. Wasn't crazy about it - saw it on the Garden DVD and fell in love. I can't stop dancing.

    Without a doubt. YOU ARE.

Can't say I disliked it on Riot Act but live it's just unreal.

You can feel the guitar, the pause, the lights flashing, and Eddie voice hit the high notes.

A true treat. I will need to check but I believe I have experienced this one 2 times live. I know DC 08 and I believe Albany 06.

My favorite without question is Rearviewmirror. Don't get me wrong the studio version is awesome, but when they go into the extended jam and everyone is doing their own thing together...it is unbelievable. Then Jeff's bass kicks the song into an explosive frenzy and you feel like someone hit you over the head with something very hard. With the lights flashing at warp speed and Matt Cameron pounding his kit through the stage you realize...This is why Pearl Jam is the best!

Arguably a lot of Binaural (just not a huge fan of the sound engineering/production on that album), but most of all Breakerfall. The studio version doesn't come close to doing that song justice. Binaural as a CD has some of my favorite songs, but I usually opt for bootleg recordings of them if I'm going to listen to something. Which is hard when one of my favorite songs off the album is Parting Ways...still holding out hope to witness this song live.

Also - I got shit and Long Road

    And I agree about DTE

I'm gonna say that 99.9% of their songs are better live... but for me DTE (that one is so obvious, I kind of dislike the studio version) and pretty much ALL of Riot Act and Ten... and pretty much all of Binaural for the reason stated above, the sound production is meh, but it's come to be my 2nd favorite album over the years, right behind No Code.

Always liked the studio version of Present Tense. When they do it live, it changes the whole face of the song. The jam at the end with the strobes kicking. We were lucky enough to get PT in Tampa and after it was over, my girlfriend (New Jammer) leaned over to me and asked me, "What the fuck song was that? Incredible"

Also, Given to Fly. I can hum along with the studio version and it's nice :) . From the first chord of GTF live, it is a more intense, driven interpretation of the song. It just builds and builds and then... ya, know.
