Wow, never realized those would be the same day 3 years apart. LOL.
First full-blown festival (had been to a few single-stage all-day radio fest concerts prior, but this was the first multi-stage, multi-day show) - Best Buy Riverstages, Nashville, TN Riverfront Park 2002. Friday headliner: Counting Crows. Saturday headliner: No Doubt. (Sunday headliner: Incubus, but we didn't go that day.) Biggest miss of the show--not getting to see B.B. King on the State Capitol stage. Biggest surprise of the show--seeing My Morning Jacket playing to about 15 people on the smallest side stage in the early afternoon.

First festival- Lollapalooza 2007
First Festival - Saratoga Jazz Fest (I think it was actually called Newport Jazz Fest at the time, but eventually changed to Freihofer's Jazz Fest ) - 1991. Neville Brothers closed Saturday night, Ray Charles closed Sunday night that year. Went like 15 straight years, then off and on since. Awesome experience. Have seen many of the greats here (though missed Miles Davis' and Stevie Ray Vaughn's appearances by a few years). They let you bring coolers in with drinks (no glass!) and food. Totally chill atmosphere. Arturo Sandoval and David Sanborn w/ Bob James Saturday and Buddy Guy Sunday this year, so think it's time for a return trip.
festival: edgefest v, somerset, wi 1998
Ozzy w/ Motley Crue opener....3-10-1984
Fest....Probably Lollapalooza 94' I think was the year.... Smashing Pumpkins/ Beastie Boys...
I listed the Ozzy / Crue show as well as it was just a month later and one of my still favs to this day!!!
One more lil' addition....Seen Metallica here in Omaha 6-1-86 (before the Midwest new of them,..LOL...)
my ticket was less than $10 bucks and there was bout 300 people there.....And have only seen them one more time since then,...exactly 20 years later in our Sold out Arena w/ 15,000+ people and it was $100 bucks... :fp:
cool thread to start...
Imagine watching Bjork on the main stage Saturday while Foo Fighters destroyed the side stage, lol.
Interesting to see old lineups like this!
Yep it was pretty incredible, they don't make lineups like that these days!

Never been to a festival. :(
First festival I went to was the 2nd night of the Virgin Festival at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto on August 30, 2009. It was supposed to be at a Burl's Creek Park in Orillia, but it got moved to Toronto due to slow ticket sales and complaints from fans. I didn't buy a ticket back then because it was too far but when they moved to Toronto, I was able to go. I only really cared about Nine Inch Nails that day (their last Toronto show until their Tension Tour this Fall), though I did enjoy Our Lady Peace, Pet Shop Boys and N.E.R.D (only band there that I saw once before as they opened for Kanye West in 2008, which I did attend). I did reserved seats as the 100L (GA Floor) was already filled-up. It was actually quite cold that day and I was wearing a hoodie because of it. It was also only the 2nd show I attended at Molson Canadian Amphitheatre where it ended at 11:30 PM. The other one was Kanye West in 2008. There is a 11:00 PM curfew so bands had to finish early as a result. Most recently, this July, Bruno Mars had to finish his 2nd Toronto show after 11:30 PM because he was supposed to take the stage at 9:15 PM, but took the stage over an hour later due to the pit (100L) being flooded. While waiting, Bruno Mars actually apologized on Twitter about this. I wasn't at the show, but I heard about it.
Back to the main topic: the first real open field festival I attended was the Orion Music and More at Belle Isle in Detroit this Summer, where Metallica (creators) and Red Hot Chili Peppers co-headlined the festival.
