LET ME ADD: If you are reading this, eddies in my tree, I will take down this post, apologize, and let everyone know that you are an upstanding guy, as long as you just complete your end of the deal.

Just want to let everyone know not to do business with user "eddies in my tree" after I sent money for a sealed PJ vinyl that he received on November 20th. The last I heard from him was on November 30th:
Hello, wow am I sorry!!! My gf and I had a last minute trip to her family in philly for thanksgiving. Just got back today. It slipped my mind completely. I can't express how sorry I am. I'll take care of this on Monday. No post open until then.

Since then, no answer to my messages (he hasn't even logged on) and no answer to emails. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it's been a while. I'm out $140 and am actually thinking of driving up there to knock on his door (I'll be in Philly this weekend and it's only two hours away.) If anyone lives in Wilkes-Barre and wants to stop by his house to ask what's up, that would be cool.

First bad experience I've had with lots of trades and purchases on this board.

Did you use PayPal? If so you can take some action there.

  • Unfortunately no. I've had bad experiences with PayPal so I use them as little as possible. I guess after this, I may go back to using them more often.

Ah, shit. That is a tough pill to swallow. Let's hope they come through man. Same here on the PayPayl - I recently rejoined them after about a year or more away. Seems like they've made it more secure, and seems to be a more acceptable form of payment for merchants. I didn't like having it tied to our direct family bank account.

This sucks, he's pretty active on the forums too, hopefully nothing bad happened.

And hopefully you end up with a positive resolution.

Yeah, like I said, I'm hoping this is just a misunderstanding. I hope there isn't something bad going on in his life that would make this just a small oversight. I'd rather this just be resolved and the purchase just be completed.

Yeah I guess I just mean that the complete radio silence with you, and on here in general when he posted so much before, is concerning.

I'm all for bucking up to help get your money back though. There's enough of us on here that if we each threw $5 your way I'm sure you would have your money back in no time.

If you never hear back from him, PM me and I will be happy to be the first to start getting your money back.

I never like to see situations like this... I do think posting about these things is a good thing btw, as long as it's not done with vitriol, which you have managed to do. :) Yes, it could be a misunderstanding or he could be in a coma or something, god forbid. :? Have you checked to see if he's logged on?? If so, then :nono: and i guess he's alive and at least well enough to use a computer, and therefore well enough to contact you, so shame shame. But anyway, i hope it works out for you!

What is the issue some of you have with PayPal btw?? As long as you are doing it right (never sending payment for goods as a gift, and never using a password that is the same or similar to other passwords you use), then i don't see how it could be a concern. I did have my PayPal account hacked once and my account was used to purchase hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of goods because i ignorantly used a stupid password. Paypal had the full amount stolen from me back onto my credit card within a week, no probs and with minimal hassle. It seems pretty secure to me as long as you're handling it right. I think a good rules is to never ever ever send money to someone when purchasing goods through anything other than paypal and never as a gift. Not even if you trust them, just because a personal rule is a personal rule, and you never know. I will personally add the PayPal goods and services fee to my payment if the seller isn't willing to pay it him or herself. Always always protect your transaction!

I did a deal with JohnnieBeBlue on here and it was a smooth transaction, came through on his end of the deal with no issue. I'd be happy to pitch in to try to get some compensation as well.

Hope this all gets worked out though man, with all the smooth transactions that happen on here it sucks to hear about this, hopefully it's just a temporary thing and the seller comes through soon.

I hate seeing threads like this but it's necessary, I trust so many people on these boards and wouldn't hesitate to do business with most people, but the few bad apples is all it takes to ruin a good thing.

We need to start a new A+ traders list that has a point system to help out

Lots of other forums allow for traders/buyers/sellers to give feedback for transactions and it is kept and calculated with the user names.

I wish the PJ forum allowed for that.
  • Thanks everyone for the support. It looks like he hasn't logged on in a while, which is why I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope that everything is OK with him.

To answer the PayPal question, I had my account frozen for a while at one point due to "suspicious activity" which means that I sold and bought too much stuff through their damn site and eBay. There is little to no recourse when they freeze your funds since they are not a bank and are not subject to the same regulations that banks have, such as not freezing your money indefinately. In a nutshell, they are not bad for buyers, but are a really crappy company for sellers. If you want to read more, there are LOTS of horror stories out there. See PayPalSucks.com for more. (I am not affiliated with that site, but find it simultaneously entertaining and infuriating.)

Anyway, I still hope to hear from him so I can just spin my PJ20 and delete this thread.

this guy has been around a long time and has a lot of posts, so hopefully it is not a ripoff and just the holidays, etc. that caused the delay.

  • $140 is a lot of money and it's not something we shit easily every day. I feel your anxiety from not receiving goods in the postal system from record dealers... as I have been there so many times myself. I hope you will receive your PJ20 Vinyl asap. Keep the faith and when you do get your record.... take photos and share it with us :)

I think we should start a DONT TRUST THREAD. I have been waiting for 200$ on a poster, and I have not gotten any response from the guy, and he's been ripped on this site befor for not paying his dues.

You sent a poster but didnt get paid?

I agree there should be a thread, but there would have to be some rules. What some consider getting ripped off might just be bad etiquette.

Never send something before you get the money for it. Buyers have recourse if they don't get the item if they just use PayPal and send payment for goods or services. But sellers can't do anything if they send the item before they get paid for it and never hear from the seller again. Lesson learned at least? I know we like to trust each other here, but seriously, everyone needs to remember to follow some basic ground rules so as not to put themselves in a position to get ripped off. I mean, you are all fabulous and everything and most amazing people, but I still wouldn't leave my purse unattended at a 10C pre-party, and I wouldn't send anything for a sale here before seeing the money.

Word of mouth works way better - the people that practice good trading habits consult one another and yeah, there are some that are doing business that are going to have experiences like this one, but I think they are fewer in number than they were when the LD forum first got going.

As far as I can tell, problems like this are few and far between, given how many deals are made on LD. Most folks around here are trustworthy. :) But still, having a self-imposed rule to take basic precautions is always a good idea.
