  • Quite simply, the answer for me is... no.

    Lyrically awesome, musically blech.

    Definitely bottom of the heap.
...makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

I like the song, instantly catchy, I agree with a few other posts that it could easily have been an Into the Wild type song!

I however have about 6-8 other LB songs ahead of it in terms of favourites. I am thinking too that this could be one LB song that Ed may do live in his upcoming solo tour of Australia! :D

    How is it "blech" :?:
It's a disease and they're all green, it emanates from their being...
  • Definitely not the best for me, but it used to be in my bottom 3. Being that it's growing on me, it has moved into my top 6.
Is it so wrong to think that love can keep us safe?

If I don't hear Swallowed Whole at Sydney BDO, I would be more than happy to hear it at one of the EV shows I am going to in Sydney, I really hope so. Anyway I think Future Days will feature in EV shows...and I will be stoked to hear that too.

How has the song 'grown' over the past 2 years, including the live performances? For me it remains definitely one of the best LB songs.

After plenty of time to sink in ,Pendulum has become my favorite. It's just so perfect. Jeffs bass line is magical, so haunting and another great addition to the live "openers". The album still holds up well for me. It's great to know they can pull off a great album late in their career.

People who really know, know that this song is one of the very best in terms of musicianship. It took a few spins, but this song is really one of the stronger ones in a while.

I like Swallowed Whole, and was surprised when I kept seeing people talking about how much it sucks. I don't think it's even close to being the best song on LB (my personal fave is MYM, followed by Infallible, Pendulum, LB, and Yellow Moon), but it's still in the first of my two LB lists, which are 1) good songs and 2) awful songs.

The only songs worse than swallowed whole are future days and sleeping by myself. These 3 are filler songs to me. The rest of LB is waaaaay better! Music is subjective though so...

Hm, interesting. I think it's one of the worst. Trumped-up Ed solo that doesn't really take off in my opinion. I wonder if I'd like it better with just Eddie like how the best version of Gone is it's premier at Borgata.
  • Very Eddie. That's why I like it best :)

Was one of my least favorites when the album was new. And for at least 6 months after. Since it's become my favorite. Swallowed Whole and Lightning Bolt are my 2 favorites on LB.

Still doesn't grab me that strongly however there are poignant lyrics. Doesn't get played as often as I'd thought it might. The only song played less is Sleeping by Myself. I group it with Down and Undone. Interesting thing is, it made an album, where as Down and Undone didn't (Riot Act era). It's a good song for sure. Still love others more though.

Good song but not close to my favorites. The one that has grown on me the most is Pendulum for sure. Love it.

    Top 5 for me...
    Pendulum
    Lightning Bolt
    Mind Your Manners
    Getaway
    Yellow Moon

Early on I liked it, but it hasn't aged well for me. Lightning Bolt as a whole for me isn't something I'll revisit much. To me there are four great songs and the rest is "blah". Great songs are MYM, Getaway, Sirens and Infallible.

One of my favorites on the album! One thing I don't get is the collective praise for Infallible. It's a decent song, but not even in the top half of the album for me. Kinda boring, honestly.

    It's a Pete Townshend song.
Liked it immediately but it's kinda faded a bit. I saw it twice.
    My 5 from the Bolt

Sirens is still tops for me but I still think they could improve on its live sound.

    S'OK.

But, to me, it's decent imitation R.E.M. more than anything, which means that it usually makes me want to listen to the real thing.

I like Sirens a lot too.
The whole LP is really great as a side 1 and side 2 listen...I don't know if that happens much nowadays with the kids and their ADHD and whatnot.
