New Year's Resolutions?

I lost quite a bit of weight over the past couple of years: went from 220 to 150. But that was more of a "I'm sick of being fat" than a "I'm setting a New Year's goal"...

Anyways, this year is all about getting in fit shape, not just keeping my weight down. Building a little bit of muscle, maintain a healthy diet, and pushing myself. I'm not one of those guys who desires to be big and bulky, just enough so that I don't like like a pole.

Does anyone else have a New Years resolution?

WhyGo91, well done on losing so much weight :).

I'm not normally the type to set a new years resolution for myself, but one thing I really need to do is lose weight and eat healthier. I'm lazy, lack motivation and have a sweet tooth, not a good combination!

I took my dog on a good walk tonight, walking about 4.7km (with quite a lot of hills), it was so humid and there was a bit of thunder at one point.

I think I've got to use my dog to motivate me...we both need to go walking!

On the way home from Medford, C. asked what my New Years Resolutions are and I told her that at 62 I no longer make them because to me resolutions are thoughts or ideas and I'm more interested in actions (and then we got into a discussion about whether or not planning is an action or a thought). Well, it helped the long miles pass.

Gimme's thought- DON'T BE A DICK- crossed my mind while we were talking but I don't like to admit that I might be a dick sometimes. HEY! I said MIGHT be. In any case, I'll work on that one. ;)

Happy New Year, PJ friends! :)

i am interested in actions too. but i think actions are inspired by thoughts or ideas sometimes. "planning" is a verb, so that must mean it is an action. :ugeek:

i need to start the don't be a dick campaign. its a nice idea. the way i see it though, if i stop being a dick, there is one less dick in the world that everybody else has to deal with.

and brian, you can admit that you are a dick sometimes. i just did it in front of the whole forum

    happy new year, buddy.

I set out to lose 20 lbs in 2013 and I lost 30. I also picked up running as a habit.

    So this year's goals are:

    1. Lose the last 6 or 7 pounds to get to 170.
    2. Run 1000 miles in 2014
    3. Run a 5K below 22:00
    4. Run a 10K (no pace goal)
    5. Drink less
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

Yep - the key to goals is to make them less ambiguous.

I figure I can run 20 miles per week, but it is aggressive. I did cheat just a bit and started counting the miles during the very last part of December. That will give me just a bit of a cushion.

What date did you start to cheat? Just get to 1000 by that date in 2014  Easier said than done..

For some reason my goal of 'go to the gym everyday after work' seems lesser of a good idea now.
