5 PJ songs to indroduce to a potential fan

What five songs (in order) from the entire PJ collection would you have a person listen to that you wanted to introduce to Pearl Jam that you are sure would have them asking for more?

My list in order is...

1. BM
2. Unthought Known
3. Given to Fly
4. I am mine
5. Release

Terrible list. The whole point is to allure them in. Like a fish. You dont want to overwhelm. Start slow. My list would be
    1) Even Flow
    2) Daughter
    3) Better Man
    4) Hail Hail
    5) Given To Fly
Again, I like all your songs, but I Am Mine for a newbie is a terrible choice.

We all may have a problem narrowing it down to five but please try. (Think of the band trying to make a setlist to appease everyone)

    You can do it, try.

Alright, lets get weird. I rarely listen to studio stuff once they release a majority of the new stuff live, so id go the live route

    1) Alive - Pink Pop 92 - with the "you survived today" intro
    2) Even Flow - from either Soldier Field 95 (dedicated to *Wesley Willis of Chicago. Hear ed scream "VOICES, VOICES" after the "looking through the paper though he doesnt know to read" line, an obvious reference to Willis who was diagnosed w/schizophrenia) or ahoy, rotterdam 1993
    3) Blood - Berlin 1996 (or any version of blood where he sings a little "atomic dog", this one is special cause he does atomic dog and some of Bowie's "Fame", then i think it goes into "suck you dry" by Mudhoney
    4) Porch - Atlanta 1994 ("you fuck with me? Ill fuck with You!" then a little of Sonic Youth's Androgynous Mind thrown in) Pure awesomeness.
    5) Black - from 06/06/1992 Finsbury Park - absolutely love the intro to this..."Light your match, there is NOOOO flame!"

Alright so i switched up jeremy for a live blood, cause blood is the shit. I especially love the "digga-jigga wowmp WOWMP," i think stone plays right after the "paint ed big, turn ed into one of my enemies"

Also, simply show them Porch from Pink Pop 1992 on youtube, shit show them the entire performance. Ed almost kills Jeff with a Mic stand during alive, and then the infamous, most insane stage dive ive ever seen...

*if you know nothing about Wesley Willis i recommend reading up on him. his music is nowhere near for everyone, but he led an interesting life and left an influential legacy
it's largely due to eddie that i liked to jump off of things as a child...

Working off the assumption that the person "introducing" PJ to has at least heard all or part of PJ hits on the radio and/or has heard of Pearl Jam:

    Elderly Woman/Small town
    Animal
    Present Tense
    Wishlist
    Life Wasted

mostly older songs but wide scope of their sound in 5 songs

These five would make their brains explode and therefore they would no longer be able to listen to PJ.

i know i also have a lot of early stuff on my list. dont get me wrong i love everything since and they have written some epic stuff after the mid 90s, to date. But i guess it just comes down to me growing up with these earlier bootlegs, before the influx of like 70+ shows per tour with the official 2000 boots, and so on.

i guess as a teen i'd latch onto whatever live pj i could get back then, especially if it was a great sounding show. There was also a lot more angst and a lot of emotion in those. Since i didnt have $ and limited access i listened to the shit out of them. Now ill buy an entire tour of the official bootlegs, and there are so many of them. I'm lucky if ive listened to the 00 and 03 ones 2, 3 times each?

You need to ease them in and cover all the angles

Infallible – something with a groove to it you can dance to….then the lyrics get you
Breakerfall – a little rockin out but not full throttle that is for once they are hooked
You Are – the pure musicality of it, how can you not get lost in the music
Tremor Christ – dip their toes in the complexities of older Pearl Jam
    Breath – pure PJ

Once they are intruiged/hooked you take them down the hallways of older/more obscure material.....
Anything you lose from being honest
You never really had to begin with.

Sometimes it's not the song that makes you emotional it's the people and things that come to your mind when you hear it.
