WHO CARES what the peanut gallery thinks man. Good luck on your trade and don't worry about the haters. Your better off selling it on ebay and using that cash towards a Benny. There are people who bash people for listing market prices, but yet bump their friends threads when they do the same. I hope you land the benny and keep your head up.
If you're referring to me I never bumped a thread like that. If you mean the Eyejacker's stockholm shirt thread, the guy is offering his half collection for a t-shirt , don't you think this is different? On the other hand all the people who were bitching about the Sevens sale, started posting how they tried to get 2-3 pieces from Amazon sales, I suppose that's still free market and I shouldn't talk about it...anyway...my best wishes to all for 2014. Now I have to go bump my friends' threads
I don't think i've read a post of yours until now. I wasn't necessarily talking about a person in general, although one person does stick out above the rest.
everyone has there own little beliefs as to what's ok and what's not ok to do. it's all bull shit though. the whole it's ok to trade this because of this reason and it's not ok to trade for this other reason is all just personal opinions and doesn't mean shit. for some people it's a worth thing, some an age thing, and some a rarity thing that they create their rationalizations around. for me, any trade or sale is ok so long as you're listening to Cyndi lauper girls just wanna have fun, while you do it.
if you think what I believe is stupid, bizarre, ridiculous or outrageous.....it's ok, I think I had a brain tumor when I wrote that.
Personally, I couldn't care less what people do with their own stuff. For the most part, I only use eBay so it's painless and nonsense free. A lot of people on here post for the same price as eBay trying to get out of the 13% charge (10% eBay/3% PayPal) and say some BS like "I want the people on this board to have it first!" Just complete absolute NONSESNE!!
What is really annoying is seeing someone post an absolute BS story on why they're posting an item for sale/trade on the forum right out of the gate or before they even receive it! Just grow a set a say "I'm selling/trading this for XX, if you don't like it FU!"

At any rate, the benny halls were originally what? $40? Cheaper than a Sevens if i'm not mistaken. I am still not sure how anyone could be opposed to making trades, particularly. it is the fairest form of exchange, no? Either way, all "blame" for high prices or what appear to be lop-sided trades rests on the BUYER, not the seller. The buyer is the one who sets the price. If buyers wouldn't pay so much, nothing would go up in value.
But there are folks who sell here because of a sense of wanting to help 10c members get good deals. Many here sell on lost dogs for WAY less than what the items go for on eBay because they want to help fellow members get their PJ stuff for less. I see it all the time here. And that's cool. But i don't see a problem with folks selling here for general market value in order to avoid ebay charges either. Why wouldn't you avoid those fees if you can?? Even then, i know many people would also like to sell here because they want 10c members to get the merch... i think it's a 'keepin' it in the family' kind of mindset. Anyway, all any of us should care about in the end is whether or not the buyer is pleased with what he or she bought! And i personally like resellers and flippers. If it weren't for them i wouldn't own some of my most treasured records! I don't miss out on sales because flippers snatch them all up first. I miss them because i dropped the ball and didn't get there on time. Others beat me to it. No one to blame but myself.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata
My sevens box set just showed up in the mail, and I'll make the same offer. Haven't even gotten the bubble wrap off it yet... anyone who wants to swap me their extra benny for it is more than welcome to.
If you don't like me buying this for trade bait, kindly fuck off.
I did not buy this item for any purpose other than to get my hands on a benny. no sob story, no "i'm broke after christmas" etc etc... I want a benny.
Until that happens, I'll leave this thing in the plastic and spin my regular version of lightning bolt. Probably wasted $50, but whatever, I can still pay my mortgage.

Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.
There is a line where it is flipping and trading. Purposely acquiring rare items with no reason other than trade or sell is flipping and is generally frowned upon by many people here... then there is a group who says "do what you want".
Sevens is an interesting one as it wasn't announced and generally a "right place right time" score, which I believe decreases the "violation" a bit. Someone going out of there way and F5-ing for, say a Billboard print only to sell it shortly after or trade it for top shelf items is pushing it... and I see a few individuals who seem to do this regularly.
I dont know what the right answer is, or if there is some sort of unwritten "grace period" in trading a rare item.
I bought it for playing, not collecting. I am looking forward to being able to play just the songs i like in the order i like best. Or listening to my faves five times in a row.... and never hearing Future Days in the context of this album ever again. I am not sure why some are having trouble with this concept, and instead think these singles have to be played in order and they are meant for listening to the whole album or for jukeboxes, and if that's not being done then the item is useless and is therefore only for collecting/profit. That makes no sense.
But shit, if i could get a Benny Hall for Sevens plus some cash I would do it in a heartbeat!
You have some fair points there. I will amend my statement to say that I believe the vast majority purchased it for collectibility's sake.

In fact I would go so far as to say that perhaps releasing limited items is the great equalizer. The more people that ultimately "get in" on limited items perhaps the less the flippers make because the economy becomes folks trading limited for limited instead of limited for cash. If an item like Sevens ever does get in the neighborhood of Benny, having two people trade something that initially listed for 50 bucks seems a hell of a lot more fair than someone paying $1000 for something that cost $50 for the original buyer.
It's bizarre that there is a sentiment by some that Benny gets some kind of special exoneration if/when it goes up for sale by someone...."letting my Benny go for $700" ... that's considered being a good dude.... "want to trade my Sevens for a Benny" ..... that's considered being a douche. Ridiculous. Somehow time changes what amounts to exactly the same thing?

Btw, while we're getting all proper names with each other here on an internet message board, the item in question is called Live at Benaroya Hall, so all unabbreviated references to it should use all four words.

The thing is time. I dont know how long is OK, it is OK or if anyone does. If someone was peddling a Benny marked with the Popup Show number they would likely hear some complaints. If it is just a Benny, odds are they have had it quite awhile and in many cases nearly 10 years ago. They likely didnt get it with the sole intention of flipping it for a quick buck or holy grail item.
Some people just acquire rare items with the only intention of flipping them. This is what people get frustrated at as it kind of ruins the spirit of the forum (although it keeps it active in large part). Im not so sure Sevens is a good example of this. It was kind of a WTF item and by the time people realized it was a real rarity, it was gone.
I want a Benny Royal LP box too. I could punch myself for not getting Sevens. It just didn't appeal to me. I have to adapt my mind to the collectors' mindset
Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue!

Fair enough, and much of what you say here makes sense. Right or wrong I sort of look at it like this... (just my opinions of course, I can see where others would disagree):
Buying with the intention to flip for cash <-- Detestable. This is what ticket scalpers do and it relies on the willingness of fans to pay exorbitant prices for things they want to enjoy regardless of value. The so called Pearl Jam economy doesn't really benefit from this unless the flipper is doing so with the sole intention of buying other merch, which judging by auction site seller's sales, is hardly the case. The term Pearl Jam economy is not to be take too literally here before someone gets offended by it.
Buying with the intention to use <-- Obviously fine.
Buying with the intention to collect <-- I have no problem with this.
Buying with the intention to trade <-- This is the one that will make me unpopular. I have no problem with this and actually see it as very different from the first case. The argument you often hear is that by doing this you deprive some other fan that wants the new limited item in question. But the reality is in most cases that so called deprived fan probably already has the OTHER item that is sought after. Desiring a Sevens that got snapped up by those looking to trade a Sevens for other vinyl is no more valid than someone's desire for that other vinyl that they don't have.
I.e. "you suck because I want Sevens to spin and you want Sevens to trade for a Benny" <- My response "why is your desire for Sevens any more important than my desire for Benny?"
Couple of discussions about doing it. People still want a buttload for a Benny. I collect vinyls and I spin vinyls. BUT, I bought sevens to spin. Because as I stated earlier I never got around to buying the LB vinyl. It was sitting in my cart. The ONLY reason I offered it up is because of what people were paying. Like the poster said... My desire for a Benny is greater than a sevens. I'm glad I have it and I'll keep it if the other offer doesn't come. I share the disdain for people that buy to sell it. I pay triple for posters to other concerts where people get there early and buy 10. It sux. But, here's the thing, I could have gotten there early and gotten one. I tell ya I will buy the next vinyl and I'll offer that up for a Benny. If no one takes it I'll keep that one too. I have majority of the big collectables except for the BENNY. Still looking for someone to make the trade... I NEED A MIRACLE I guess.

Llistening to 99 luftballoons makes it okay too.
If you are shining your gun while trading... this makes it okay too! (I'm kidding).
