Sirens is the epitome of blind loyalty and fanboy-ism(?) of this band (along with Ole'). My God you are all fucking nuts to think this is a good song, let alone a song this band should be associated with. For fuck's sake....

I'm going more with the flip side of this argument. The "Sirens" hate is more the product of the modern blog/message board mentality. If it's popular, too close to mainstream, not retro enough, out of the comfort zone, etc, etc...then it's cool to hate it. "Oh PJ is being played on the radio again? I hate that song. But you should hear the performance of Bugs at the Philly show in '09!!! I'm cool enough to know that song!!!"

agree 100%. a lot of these same people would have been trashing Daughter in 1993 because it was too light or mainstream and not the 2nd coming of Even Flow or Alive. and can you imagine the shit storm if they released Better Man under today's environment?

Or maybe we just have different tastes? I'm not a fanboy- I hate the bands stands on merch and ticket prices, I acknowledge that the first five albums are better than the last 5 released, I don't like when a member acts like a crybaby on stage, I despise Ole (as well as a few other songs), but I LOVE Sirens. Lyrics are fantastic and ballad style music is good too.

 That about sums it up (minus first five better than last 5) for me too.
If you don't like it, who gives a fuck, get over yourself.

thank god im nuts and mike can write this type songs and eddie this type of lyrics..
    Woot....or better..Ole!!

I agree. It may be grandiose or whatever, but I enjoy it, I think it's beautiful, and, if you don't like it don't listen to it. Art is subjective.

    It is a great song.

No Binaural! No code is second.

I can't do sirens Man. I was punished though. Went to get a beer during sirens and had to run back because they played a top 5 (In My Tree) next. So yes PJ, I love sirens as long as you play Long Road at my next concert.

Oh and dissident is good in small doses, ha ha.

Is there a hate campaign going on towards a Pearl Jam song here? If that's the case, it doesn't fit in with the Posting Guidelines and some people are going to find their forum accounts read-only....not having it...capisce?

You don't care for a song, you don't have to listen to it but there will be no hate campaign here.

I enjoy the shit out of Sirens while understanding that not everyone agrees with my connection to it. It's the same with PJ themselves. Some people like them, some don't. Don't incite anger over an opinion. I'm all for spicing up the forum every now and then but....

BTW I love the last five albums, but I ranked all ten of them a few weeks ago, and they just happened to sort out this way.

  • Been a huge fan since day 1. Loved all the albums and there's very few tracks that I don't like. Got to admit I wasn't keen on sirens when I first heard it. Since LB came out I have a new found love for it. It's a real grower and I don't get how people can think it's any worse than some of their other ballads over the years.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. At first I thought the intro sounded like a Coors commercial but after several listens I've grown very attached to the song and don't understand the hipster anger over it.

I like Sirens, but it only ranks about 11th of 12 on the album for me. I mean damn! The whole album is just. that. good!

I agree with you about Ole', probably the worse PJ song ever. But Sirens is great. Not the best song they've written, but a nice song, probably on the level of Given to Fly, actually maybe even a little better. I guess I'm still waiting for a song on the level of Corduroy or Betterman

I really can't believe this is even a debate. The song is tremendous. Destined to be a classic.
"All I Ever Knew" available now in print and digital formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks.
  • Sirens is an alright song. Just alright. The music is quite good, as Mike's usually is, but the lyrics leave something to be desired. It's basically a song about someone with some sort of extreme neurosis who's afraid of everything. I just can't relate to it. It sounds like an anthem for being a total wuss.

I'd rate the songs on LB like this:

A+ : Getaway, Mind Your Manners, Swallowed Whole, Let the Records Play, Yellow Moon
B+ : Lightning Bolt, Infallible, Pendulum, Sleeping by Myself
B- : My Father's Son, Sirens, Future Days

    Just my two cents.

Infallible. maybe not, but the song is damn good. Best song on a studio album since Yield.

so you mean to say the song is not infallible as in its not perfect, or the song is not as good as the song "Infallable"? Or both?
