damn...roo was a beast this year, huh?
    nice resume there
We were but stones your light made us stars
  • Jeez where to begin.... Too drunk to find all my stubs but let's spitball it:

Jim James solo in the Philly Dive bar. Probably 100 people if that in there? Also saw him later in the year in Philly. He kills it live btw.

The Killers are meh..I really love their studio albums but their live show is about as average as it gets. See them once and you will be fine.

Tame Impala....go effing see them. Enough said.

Gaslight Anthem...one of the best younger groups out there. Fallon can go solo at any moment I feel and be even better. Same with Cage the Elephant.

Muse....one of the best shows I have seen ever. Their setup is insane.

MMJ and Wilco are always fantastic live. But Dylan was shitty as usual at the Americanarama tour. It sucks because I have such respect for Dylan but he is dogshit live now.

Miguel.....wow, really surprised at his MIA performance. His band rocked and he can really kick ass live. Just like...

    Macklemore. See above....kills it live.

Phoenix and Nine Inch Nails were awesome as well. Same with QOTSA.

8 Pearl Jam shows and 2 Phish shows really topped it all off. They were both so goddamn on point and tight it was crazy.

I tihnk that's it but I am definitely forgetting some.

Oh Splintered Sunlight a few times and some other local bands. No Code's last show ever on land (the PJ cover band) was absolutely batshit insane. Honestly one of the better shows of the year because they all didn't give a fuck. I know you guys are on the boards.....fucking awesome run you had. I have crazy video of the Grape Street show.

Edit: I go to lots of shows besides Pearl Jam.... These were the ones I could pull off the top of my head. Funny how you remember each one. I'd have to go back and look through my icalendar or dig through stubs to remember all the other shows I went to. They were mostly great shows too but PJ brings it to another dimension. Y'all with me.
Since I started working night shift I don't get to go out as much anymore so I take a vacation when PJ is playing some where I want to go. Music. Love. Pearl Jam. Life is good.

I'm a huge pj fan, but I think even Ed would tell you that you need to broaden your horizons.

I'm certain I'm forgetting a couple of smaller shows here - having some kind of brain fart - but anyway....

Soundgarden in February, Vancouver: SUCKED SHIT. The sound was beyond fucked, and the backdrop curtain was malfunctioning the whole show, slowly opening and closing in front of their backdrop screen. And the band was in a bad mood, and just being boring. This show was a massive disappointment... I actually still want my money back.

Pearl Jam at Wrigley Field in July, Chicago: Surreal and awesome. Too fucking hot, at times painful, and the next day I felt like I'd been run over by a Mac truck, but an insanely memorable and positive experience, and I heard the greatest version of Release ever performed there IMO - that alone made it magical. Got a lot of other great songs there too, some that I never expected to hear ever.

Phish in July, Chicago: I had heard the rumours about the amazing crowds at these shows, and they were all true. This show had the most fun and friendly crowd! For that, it was super super fun. Exceeded expectations for sure!! And I saw Eddie Vedder standing basically right above me by the stage! ... The music is nothing at all special. I'll never ever listen to Phish except at a live show. I will definitely go to another live show if I get a chance even though I don't give a flying fuck about the actual music. I'll go just for the crowd experience (I should note that I think being very pleasantly drunk helped). :)

The National in September, Vancouver: It was outdoors and it was raining, but that's okay. It was good. They sound the same live as they do on their album. I had really high expectations because I saw talk about how they were one of the greatest live shows in the world right now.... I don't know where that's coming from. They didn't do anything particularly interesting. They just sounded good, which is what I expect from any good band. But anyway, no complaints at all. Good show (but too fucking short). :)

Chris Cornell in October, Vancouver: Really truly beautiful!! I loved this show! He sounds amazing and has that special presence that makes a good show great. This show actually exceeded my expectations, and they were pretty high to begin with. :D The problem with this show was that he cut the encore super short, playing only one song, supported by his opener, who fucked the song up. That was really disappointing. Not sure what the problem was there. Kind of made me feel ripped off a bit.

NIN in November, Vancouver: Wrote a pretty lengthy review in the NIN thread about this. Briefly, they sounded great and the visual effects were great! They played a lot of really good songs, and I was really happy to hear them live. The crowd was pretty good. I didn't like that the band was so completely detached from the fans. It could have been SO much better if they didn't do that. Would see their show again anyhow because I dig their music and it sounded super solid, and I like bright flashing lights. :P

Pearl Jam in December, Vancouver: This show blew my fucking brains out - best concert I have ever been to in my life hands down. Three deep in GA right in front of Eddie, incredible set list, incredible crowd, band was in an incredible mood, incredible incredible incredible!:clap::clap: Eddie actually fucked up a lot - kept forgetting lyrics because he was letting himself get distracted by the crowd I think. He was just so fucking charming about it, I think all his fuck ups actually added to the general great feeling of the show (except for It's Okay. That was the number one highlight of the show for me personally, but it still could have been better - Eddie forgot some of the words and mumbled his way through a couple parts.... still awesome. That was one of my White Whales :D ).

Yup. Better than Bob Dylan, but what a letdown.

The QE is noted for the sound quality and how someone never got fired for muddling every song to the point where people wanted to leave (my buddy actually did).

We went to a lot of the same shows.
