    Some people (not me) would argue that Arcade Fire, Radiohead, U2, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, RHCP, Green Day, Arctic Monkeys, Muse, Metallica, My Morning Jacket, The National, Springsteen and the E Street Band, The Rolling Stones, Wilco, The Black Keys, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Nine Inch Nails, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, DMB, Phish, QOTSA, and Rush are better than PJ but I disagree. PJ is the best in my opinion.

    I have 2 problems with every band you've listed:

    The old timers you listed haven't released a good new song or album in 10 years and the newer bands won't be around for any releveant amount of time. The one exception in Foo Fighters. And maybe the black keys.

    I guess I'm required to say IMHO. Radiohead still makes my ears hurt. I can't believe arcade fire and arctic monkeys are allowed to make music. My morning jacket, ehhh. Phish? seriously? I could go on.

    let the raking begin.

    They have been the greatest band in the world for 20+ years, for the majority of that time they have been under the radar & that is the best thing about it. All other bands of the last 20 years have really been insignificant

    wow! I know this is a Pearl Jam website but to say that all other bands are insignificant is just not right. you might not like them but there are many great bands out there.

    As much as I love them, they are not THE greatest band, but they are ONE OF the greatest bands along with Springsteen, and Nine Inch Nails (who were also touring this fall hitting many of the same venues as PJ).
    I like NIN a lot, and saw them and PJ at the same venue within two weeks, and wow, was PJ ever a zillion times better. NIN looked and sounded really cool, but there was literally ZERO connection with the fans with NIN. Again, to each their own! But to me, PJ has every other live act beat because of the way they make their shows seem so intimate and how they connect with everyone in the building (on top of the fact that their music is by far the greastest music in existence for me, lol. I love a LOT of different music very much, but PJ stands alone ;) They aren't just the best current band IMO. They are the greatest band in the history of the world :D ).

    I enjoyed reading your points and you make good ones. I think what is different for me, is I don't really need the performer to 'connect' with me to enjoy a show. You are right that NIN has never really had a lot of back and forth with the audience, but NIN transports me to another planet. PJ is like a huge block party. Different approaches definitely, and I like both.
    That's cool.
    Just for the record, I don't need a band to connect with me just to enjoy a show. But I guess I need a band to connect with me to feel like my soul has been touched at the show. NIN entertained me really well and I enjoyed it. They did not touch my soul. ;)

    (sorry for being so cheezy :oops: )
