  • The OP needs to watch late night TV when the hosts (Jay Leno or Kimmel) goes out on the streets and ask basic questions about America or history in general to bystanders. People are just. plain. stupid.

I'd like to know how many American kids know what's the capital of the U.S.

I think the best clue is the NHL's 'Senators'.
I mean, if there was a 'Harare Senators' in the NFL, we'd at least be able to make an educated guess at it's Capital... right?

I wrote a very detailed report on Canada in elementary school...complete with the Canadian national flag as the cover. I might even still have it somewhere. I'm sure I know the capital at that time.

But...it doesn't seem as if much, if anything, significant or noteworthy happens there and so I've forgotten it.
The only people we should try to get even with...

Wow! It's embarrassing to admit this but I could not answer the question "What is the capital City of Canada". But I'm not embarrassed at all to say that I've learned something. Thank you!

My wife was just telling me her dad taught a high school US government class in Southern California and most of his students couldn't name the capital city of either California or the United States. Pathetic!

There are people in Orange County that I worked with in Southern CA that didnt know many of the towns that surrounded Los Angeles, let alone Sacramento.
I remember one time I said to a co-worker....'I have a meeting in Carson today' and they asked where Carson was. (It was about a 30 minute drive from our office.)

I think the person that stated geography & Americans do not mix well put it best.
