On the bright side, I still have the right to be loud and vote against those that support strict gun control!
  • Only when the pictures of the destruction done in newtown are made public...will sensible gun regulations be debated....sad state of America.

I think it is very sad when:

Group A- Looks to a musician/celebrity as a compelling political voice
    and
Group B- actually uses a musician/celebrity as a political target

"Just to make it a little harder [to obtain guns]. Not taking away the right."

This kind of sensible statement upsets gun owners? Really? Mind boggling.

    Thank you, Ed!

Eddie, like many, does not seem to have his nose on the ground..

aren't people aware how easy it is to obtain a gun illegally?

why dont people give a shit about gun violence until it happens in the suburbs?

in the ghetto, in war.. everybody seems to be more tolerant or less aware.. which is a shame..

dont people realize how many guns there are to be had in this country, which are unregistered/illegal?

There is no amount of legislation that can make a bad man act right..

evil is smart and will always find a way to be evil..

I dont believe more laws are the answer.. I believe education and a family-type love is..

Have you ever stopped for a second and wondered exactly why there are so many illegal guns?

You sell them like you do t-shirts for gawds sakes. You can buy them along with a six pack at gas stations in Texas

Yah. You got it all figured out. Thanks for the enlightenment.

This is so true! A friend came back from a road trip and told me with great disbelief,

There was this gas station with a big sign over it that said:

    GUNS--BEER--AMMO!

I know exactly why there are so many illegal guns.. because this situation should have been dealt with over 70 years ago.. but it wasn't, so here we are..

I wish people would just look at some hard numbers.. lets take a look at Eddie's hometown of Chicago.. these are year-to-date totals for 2013..

    Shot & Killed: 311
    Shot & Wounded: 1548
Total Homicides*: 378 (some killed without a gun)

    http://www.heyjackass.com/category/2013/

Anyone that is familiar with Chicago can tell you where a lot of this activity has happened..

I can feel confident telling you that the bulk of the guns used in these crimes were not bought at a store.. they were not bought within the boundaries of the law. Current laws or the ones people wish were introduced..

My point is, or the question I am getting at is.. how do more laws fix this problem? Do most even see it as a problem in a "big city"? Seems to me, people only give a shit when it happens in the suburbs..

This post: posting.php?mode=quote&f=4&p=5328691 with it's sensible comments might answer your question but I kind of doubt it or anything else any one says will change your mind. Why you oppose sensible tighter gun laws is and always will be beyond me.

I think they call this a stalemate.

    stalemate indeed..

    I want a solution..

let me say that again, I WANT A SOLUTION !!!

I wish gun violence and murder were a thing of the past..

I just dont understand how more laws help that..
I dont understand how throwing more money at government enforcement helps that.
Last I checked, murder was illegal.. certainly walking into a school with those helpless children (i am crying just thinking about it again) and.. that is definately illegal..

laws dont stop people.. it is just so fucking sad.. :(

    I was at Hartford 2013 ... ;)

ya ... i'm a pacifist and for the most part agree in principle to what eddie is saying ... i will add that he's not the most articulate speaker out there ... he rambles a lot and he sure is not gonna convince anyone who isn't already siding with him based on his speeches ...

and as for solutions ... i'll continue to repeat myself ... you have to a) create a social infrastructure that looks at the collective - it means having programs for mental health; after school programs; education ... b) accept and move pass this culture of violence ... a country that chooses to bomb innocent people for profits is going to create a population that chooses violence as a means of resolution ... and c) let go ... let go of this myth that america is a wonderful place where whatever problems exists are caused by the "other side" ... america is so divided now that it is completely dysfunctional ... democrats fighting for gun controls that will do nothing; republicans fighting for less gun control to serve their lobby and base ... no one is actually doing anything about the crux of the problem ...
  • Nobody is saying that there aren't bigger and underlying problems. Without question, they need to be addressed... but in the meantime... put some bandages on the hemorrhaging and stop the bleeding until the help comes.

Each handgun (assault weapons as well) that is sold is yet another killing weapon introduced to society. There is no practical need for such a weapon outside of military and law enforcement. A weak argument could be made for ranchers and deep woods hunters- outside of that... target practice. Not good enough.

Tax the shit out of ammunition and make it very expensive. Use the income generated from here to begin addressing the inequitable system your country is forging.

I am so glad that you do not have the right to vote in our elections! Hunting and ammunition is already way too expensive, lol

I'm truly sorry that so many shitbirds create so many problems that leave hunters defensive under such scrutiny. I have nothing against your way of life.

Of the top 10 states in terms of gun violence per capita.

Number of those states that require a permit to carry a handgun: 0

I'm guessing Texas isn't on that list then.

Interesting, seeing as how almost everyone in TX owns a gun...
