Is it time for Boom to become an official member?

Every time I see these autographed by Pearl Jam members for auction things, I kind of feel bad for Boom.

He has been around for quite awhile now. Boom certainly has had a presence on both of the last 2 studio records and we can not deny his live contributions.

I didn't start this post as a bash Boom thread so if you feel the need to do that, please do it somewhere else.

    Hmm depends on what part he plays in the new album.

    I love him in songs like Crazy Mary and yet to still see Love Boat Captain!

    He is a member of the band in my books, but he doesn't mind being up the back or off to the side.

    My brothers and I met him on the streets of Melbourne in 2006. He was the nicest people I've ever met. The coolest thing was, he was happy to talk to us and kept saying how much he loved the fans. Boom often gets a bad wrap from people on here, but if those people ever met him I'm sure they couldn't help but love the guy.

    Why are some people not a fan of Boom? It's one thing to not care either way, but why would someone have such a negative view of a touring keyboardist?

    Would it change anything if Matt wasn't a full member? He has been serving them well for 10 years...what would be different if he wasn't considered a "member" of the band?

    I like Boom's organ on a few things, like on Inside Job and Masters Of War on Letterman. The only thing for us that would change would be the group pictures would have him in it.

    This is true. But I didn't say it to justify him as being a member of the band.

    Not to mention, he is one of the few people who goes to PJ shows that is older than me!

    I love Boom and keyboards, but whether he is a member of the band is really up to PJ and Boom. What arrangement they have now seems to be working and I assume what they decide will be best. :)

    I think he should be. And he sometimes is on those autographed auction items. I think he was on the Benaroya records they auctioned awhile back.

    He is much more integrated into the band now than he was on Riot Act. Go back and really listen to Avocado. He is on almost every song. And they even included him on the cover art. In fact, I kind of got the impression that he was official just based on that.

    We'll see what he does on the new record.


    Oh, and I like him. Not when he overpowers Alive and some other songs on the boots, but for the most part I like him in the band.

    I honestly don't see why he shouldn't be, but of course it's the band's decision.

    Why shouldn't he be an official member. I think he ads a lot to the band, and he is a bad ass. :D
