  • Awesome! Sounds like Ed got to a little hesitant start with the notes but he settled in fine by the middle of the tune

    I really dig the tune

Better to be real than to lip sync. :nono:

I wonder if cutting back on smoking is going to hurt his touring voice in the short-term. That layer of nastiness probably offered a bit of protection. He let it rip by the end though and he was fine. You could tell he was fighting it.

i love PJ more than anyone, but whenever Ed is on tv his voice sounds really shaky ala Comfortably Numb, Mother, Sirens, etc. Just doesn't sound as great as it usually does at a show. He killed Sirens at BKN 1, 2, and Philly 2

I wonder if the "shakiness" has something to do with switching from playing arenas to a teeny tiny studio, almost literally overnight. I would imagine there is a major difference in how one commands one voice in those settings.

Alternatively I wonder how big of a role the wine plays. Maybe Fallon should've cracked a bottle of red instead of those eggs on his head, it's entirely possible that the wine would help.

I just hope he ain't getting sick again cuz Hartford!

Anyone catch what Ed's tshirt said?

I thought they sounded fucking great!! I wasn't feeling the "shakiness" that some have mentioned. Ed's voice sounds really good lately. Excited for tomorrow nights performance.

His shirt said "Tramps Like Us, Baby We Were Born To Run".
He wore it during the Philly night 2 show as well.

I thought comfortably numb was an awesome vocal performance. Are we talking about the Sandy relief?

As for sirens, did I hear he was sick at a concert recently? or did I dream that? He was certainly struggling a bit, and his eyes were watering. Whether that was him feeling an emotional connection to the song, or just struggling with a sore throat which I think is more the case.

i'd like to think it was the emotion... because he looked exactly like this...

Not from me. I think thats why it sounded weak. Sounds better with Matt doing it in the video.

I heard the shakiness, but it didn't take away anything from the song or performance.
I've been fortunate enough to see Pearl Jam live.

I am hanging in the balance of a perfect finished plan

  • Ed sounded fine. What are you people talking about? Shaky? Is PJ the most criticized band of all time? Really, cut some slack for these guys every once in awhile. Good performance. Band was tight.

I can see where people are getting at with the "Shaky" in his voice in the beginning, but at the end he really nailed it.

I loved the way the lights looked, and Ed was dressed very snazzy...... :)

I was surprised that Mike was on backup was well...maybe there were issues with Matt's Mic....it didn't even look it he had one...I will agree, Matt is stronger on the vocals.

Overall, great performance! I'll be staying up tonight to watch them, can't wait! From the pictures posted on Twitter/Instagram...it looks like they'll be playing Lighting Bolt, which is awesome since it's one of my favorites from the new album.

PEARL JAM- 12/6/13 I have finally seen Pearl Jam live!
  • Decent performance of an OK song. Now, play "Getaway" god dammit. They'll play "Lightning Bolt" tonight, tho.

mike's been singing backup on that all tour. i also agree that matt should be singing instead.

  • Mike did great; that's something brand new basically for him to be that featured in a backup vocal spot, and he's doing it for a national audience....he did great.

    :clap::clap::clap::clap:

Tomorrow's guests: Javier Bardem (big Pj fan) Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam. i'm hoping Ed's interview is interesting....can't wait ....

Sirens sounded fine. I haven't been checking up on the versions from this tour, but that is NOT an easy song to sing by any measure. Good version.

    We're so spoiled this year.

    cheers

True . . not sure if the TV studio audio set up doesn't work for him but he DOES sound shaky and almost "out of tune" sometimes .. I noticed that back when they played SNL just after Backspacer came out . . . he didn't sound great there either. TV doesn't seem to suit his voice for some reason. :(
