I guess I'll weigh in here.... Been seeing PJ since 1993 (though i did have tickets to a '92 show that was cancelled). ;-)
Philly night 1 was off the hook - great crowd. One of the best crowds I've been a part of in 40-odd years of attending shows - and I've attended lots of them. Unfortunately the sound where I was (Section 116, midway up) wasn't great. It was boomy and we were definitely in a bad spot as far as the echo chamber effect goes. At times it was hard to pick out what was being played - it was basically a wall of sound being echoed off the back wall of the arena. They were just bad seats for sound. That happens. But still - the intensity of the crowd and the great set list really helped. BTW - I love all the new stuff. Towards the end of the first set (right before encore break #1) the sound got noticeably *worse* when it was over driven. Then at Encore they dialed it back in. For me that is what made night #2 MUCH better than night #1. I wish I'd had better seats for night #1 (but I am still very appreciative of the 10C member who sold them to me for face, you are awesome, you know who you are). :-)
Night #2 - the crowd was a tad more subdued. But hell, we were TIRED! ;-) I had Corner Box 23 seats for night #2 and the visuals and the sound were much, much better. Gotta say - my favorite parts were the "World Wide Suicide" followed by "Do The Evolution" (I will NEVER get tired of that song!).
What i feel the need to say is - I think it's awesome that PJ still cranks it out like they do and that the crowd understands what they are seeing and reacts accordingly. The only thing that parallels it in my mind was some of the earlier Grateful Dead shows I've seen - where the crowd and the band really did become "one" and the result was amazing for everyone involved. Pearl Jam is that band "these days" and I'm hoping for many more days to come. :-)0 -

Good show but night 1 blew it away by miles. I had better seats night 2 as well.
The crowd night 1 was insane ..setlist unreal. Sat in sec 111 night 1 and sec 123 night 2.
I think everyone was exhausted from first night but i had alot of people behind me playing games on their phone. Girl directly behind me sat down the whole show...Why even go to concert???? blows my mind.
Ive been to 70+ shows and night 1 ranks in my top 10 all time...thats saying something cause ive been to some memorable shows.0 -

I still rocked the fuck out despite the glances from cool-breezes who stayed planted with their arms around GF's dressed for a VIP event.0 -
I feel the same except I swap out Bruce with the Dead... same great vibe and thats what keeps the torch burning. We need to keep RnR relevant and thats why I've got no qualms with PJ marketing this album so strongly
My wife and I compared it to a Springsteen show we saw at Madison Square Garden 7/1/2000. Though I don't think the show was anywhere near as good as Springsteen shows I've seen in Denver (river tour comes to mind), the crowd on the night we were at MSG was unbelievable - probably the most astounding crowd I have been part of. :-)
I think the new PJ album is a great record. It's way high in the rotation at our house.0 -
I would like to use my 1000th post to talk about my 2 epic nights in Philly.
Sonic reducer in night 1 kept my new song per show dream alive. Satan's Bed was the crown jewel of night 2. From the friends that I met and got to party with, to the drinks and good times, to the 60 hours that felt like forever and a day. I don't know if I'll ever see Breath, Wash, Pilate, Man of the Hour, Leash, Off He Goes, Parachutes, and several others in the same 2 night span ever again.
Thank you to the band, thank you to the fans, and thank you to everyone that made my 3 day trip from Toronto worthwhile. The 8 hour drive each way was well worth it. And last, thank you to the guy in Floor section 2, row 13, seat 1 that let me put on his Phillies jacket without realizing it, and then laughing when he saw me wearing it. Many others would have been mad in the same spot. I have a pic of myself that would make this story look 1000x better, but I don't know how to post it.
I can't say it enough; thank you Pearl Jam. Thank you Philadelphia. Thank you new friends.1998: Barrie 2000: Toronto 2005: Kitchener, London, Hamilton, Toronto 2006: Toronto 1&2, Paris, Milan, Torino, Pistoia 2009: Calgary, Vancouver 2011: Canada 2013: London, Wrigley, Philly 1&2 2014: St. Louis, ACL 1, Detroit 2016: Lexington, Quebec, Ottawa, Toronto 1&2, Fenway 1&2, Wrigley 1&2 2017: EV - Louisville 2018: London 1&2, Milan, Padova, Rome, Prague, Krakow, Berlin, Wrigley 1&2, Fenway 1&2 2020: Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton 2021: London 1&2 2022: Hamilton, Toronto 2023: Chicago 1&2, Noblesville 2024: Seattle 1&2, Noblesville, Wrigley 1&20 -

I've always made that parallel and BBC just wrote a great article about it as well. http://www.bbc.com/culture/story/201310 ... teful-dead0 -
The craziest part of the Philly 2 show was when Eddie fell off the speaker at the end of YL. You could hear the thump in GA. A little too much wine and champagne during the show -- Ha!0

Breath - My favorite PJ song of all time. Introduced as "usually the 10th song on the setlist back when they were 11 songs long" and i knew immediately that it was Breath.I went fucking jumping retard. Singing my brains out. Holy crap this one song made the night.
You said it. I came from abroad and went to both Brooklyn and both Philly. I waited for this song in Brooklyn 2 and when Eddie said this song used to be the 10th I thought "well I might get Breath now". I went crazy just like you did. Tihs song made my night and the whole trip worth it. Fucking best song ever.

We let her go in front of us when the doors opened at 6:30. When Eddie pointed her out we found out why she was in such a hurry
Just wanted to say thank you for that...0 -
A gaggle of dicks are slamming PJ and EV over at Gawker while laughing at this gif of Eddie falling last night: http://gawker.com/heres-a-gif-of-eddie- ... 1452112527I'll ride the wave where it takes me.0

For Night 2, we were in Sec 123, row 5. This was behind the stage on Mike's side. It was a very good vantage to see what was going on side stage. They actually had a birthday cake ready to bring onto the stage but it seemed like there was some miscommunication between the band and the stage hand so it never made it up on stage.
For Night 1, we had 10C seat in section 102. My first impression after Night 2 was that I enjoyed Night 1 better. But I loved Brain of J on N1 and Present Tense on N2. I hope they make it back east soon.0 -
"Eddie Vedder, the lead singer of a garbage band called Pearl Jam, fell down on Tuesday night while performing in a garbage city called Philadelphia, on the band's 23rd anniversary of making garbage music. He's OK"

This was a night to remember. Before the show I had been chatting with some people about songs we were hoping for. I said that I would love Satan's Bed but never expected it in a million years. I also really really wanted Come Back but again I never thought it would happen. AND I FUCKING GOT BOTH! I cried like a baby during Come Back
It was the last stop on the tour for me but what a way to end it!!! Great show.0 -
So glad you got Satan's Bed and Come Back, lpeddle! I know what you mean about crying like a baby-I was like that during "Chloe/Crown" in Hartford!"A beacon on dry land"0
