It seems we have many different fan sites listed here, all striving to basically achieve the same thing - download pearl jam shows. I realize hosting is cheap and everyone can have their own blog nowadays, but wouldnt the effort be more productive if we merged the show download archive into one super site (similar to how twofeetthick.com or five horizons are comprehensive to concert chronology)?

I just feel it's alot of wasted effort for pearljamamerica.com, armyreserve, etc. to upload duplicate shows, when we could be focusing on the shows that are not already available online yet.

I know I'm Gone has mentioned plans to upload all the shows eventually, but if you think about it, we are already a long way towards that goal and the effort may not even be necessary. It's largely an organization issue right now. Alot of the shows the armyreserve is missing are at pearljamamerica.com, and vice versa. Sure, if we compile the list and find that I'm Gone or whoever has a better version of a show it can always replace the old one.

If you remember back far enough, the site presenttense.net was similar to what I am thinking of. The difference of course, is that the file hosting in this scenario would be maintained by 3rd parties (ie. sendspace/megaupload).

This idea just seems like a way to unify the community a little more, and since many users are unaware of all the independent efforts being made, clean up and consolidate duplicate shows.

Actually, PJAmerica has pretty much every show in mp3. The Army Reserve aims to do the same, but offer lossless alternatives as well. Perhaps i should post links to all fansites offering bootlegs nowadays on the 1st page, which is basically wha you are talking about having, i'm just too lazy to update it properly.

Furthermore, the whole point of this thread is to request shows that are not available online already. Duplicate links are far from a bad thing, often people cannot use megaupload, so they can download from sendspace instead because of these duplicate links. The problem is that these links expire so we have this thread so they can continually be replaced/updated. I don't know whether you realise that the sort of supersite you are talking about would be unbelievably expensive to run because of the bandwidth costs from hosting 400+ shows.

I dont really think thats the same thing, or that it would solve the problem. Fan sites are arbitrarily organized, and furthermore one site might have this show, but another would have that show. If you wanted a certain show, how would you know which site had it? Oh, Im sure with effort you could find it, but wouldnt it be far more elegant to have one site that was actually organized?

I see your point, but if its really that much of an issue to warrant duplication, the combined effort could incorporate a sendspace link and a megaupload link. And you seem to be forgetting that a non-expiring account could be used? I work with computers for a living, and yes I am aware of the bandwidth costs. However, I stated before that we are already using 3rd parties (sendspace/megaupload) to host these shows, so bandwidth isnt an issue. All the mega site includes are links.

But it really is no effort to find, both PJ America and Army Reserve are 'elegantly organised'.
PJ America - go to home page, select year, select show.
Army Reserve - go to home page, select year, select show.

It would take about 3 mins tops to check both these sites. If neither has the show you are looking for, just come here and request it. I get where you are coming from, but the whole point of this thread is that it is a community thing where everyone contributes, and anyone can request something. Furthermore, with Army Reserve, when we are making progress towards having every show available, and although i cannot speak for other site owners but i am sure many intend the same, why abandon what we already have to start from scratch? Not to mention many of these fan sites exist for other reasons than to offer bootlegs...

The lack of organization was referring to the fan sites you mentioned linking to. I never said finding a show was extremely difficult to do now, but, why are large retail stores attractive to so many people? Because they are a one-stop shop. Why go to 5 websites when you could go to one? I know it's laziness, but that is the general trend of the internet - the lazier the better.

-It's possible to make a site where people can request shows
-It's possible to create a site where people can post links to shows they've uploaded
-Links to shows could be uploaded with a permanent account, eliminating alot of the duplicate requests for shows (dont tell me duplicate requests dont come here)
-Even though all of those shows are available through a "3 minute search" through AR or PJA, we still see many requests for shows posted on one or the other, proving that people are not willing to go back-and-forth as you suggest
-What many sites "already have" is the same as other fan sites
-It's not starting from scratch, as many shows have already been uploaded, its mostly compiling links
-Fan sites, as always, can always exist outside of having a downloads page (its not a requirement for a fan site, that I know of :))

Well, it sounds like you arent interested anyway. It's good to at least think these things out, and thanks for hearing my points.

I personally am not interested in taking on this kind of project, and doubt many would be, it would be such a huge effort. This doesn't mean this idea is a bad thing though, far from it - if you are interested in such a project why not try it yourself - It's the reason i started my bootlegs page, from which the Army Reserve was born, because when i first came to these forums, you couldn't download any given show from PJ's history, and even asking about these shows was considered a bit taboo. Now look where we all are 2 years down the line!

I agree that it would be a huge effort to put this together and if, merkinball95, you have the desire to do this then I would say go for it. In PJ utopia there would be a "one stop shopping" type of site, but PJ (at least so far) has not done this and it is a lot of time, money, and commitment to do this project. Don't think I'm dumping on you. I agree with the concept and wish it was more feasible.

  • Thanks for the support from you both. Actually, you'd be surprised - as a programmer, I can extract information from webpages, such as these links, and put them in a database. It still requires effort, but if there's enough interest I might see how feasible it could be.

I'm sure there would be lots of interest. There are still so many people who are unaware of the old concert audio and a boot beginer would find an all encompasing site to be very nice. I myself just became aware of it late last year.

If you do this project, I would suggest that you ask for permission to use the links from the various blogs (I'm Gone - that's for you, I'm looking out for you).

I am a huge fan of the Army Reserve web site for many reasons. One reason is I believe it is well run and organized and has everything I personally am looking for and if there is something I specifically wish for I just ask. Great people run the site. I am a huge fan of FLAC shows and this site has them. Some people say they cannot tell the difference. Well maybe through PC speakers or an iPod that may be true but when I jam to a show listening through my Klipsch speakers powered by my Yamaha I can tell the difference. All I can say is thank God for the Army Reserve web site! Keep up the great work. :)

I'm not being an ungrateful bastard; I appreciate his effort. The only reason I'm asking is because I downloaded the 2003-07-17 show and they turned out to be mp3s & WMAs--no FLACs. Then I didn't know if the WMAs had been converted FROM the mp3s. That's all. I'm still looking for the Mexico City shows (2003/07/17-19) in FLAC. Thanks.

Thanks to Mookie & Dan for the kind words :)

Just to let you know that i am leaving to begin my trip to see PJ at Wembly tomorrow, and as such the Army Reserve will basically go on hiatus until i reurn on Tues/Wed next week.

I already am getting my hands on a Munich boot, and hope to have it uploaded before i leave, but you may all need to wait until i return. We hope to have boots from every 07 show on the AR, so we will work on that upon my return as well.

It's great to have such better technology these days, so boots get out on the net within days of the show.

The 7-19-2003 Mexico City show posted on my site is 100% FLAC as are all of the other shows that say they are FLAC. Not looking to post any crap on there I just want to share the best of what I have. Download and enjoy : )

Only one show is posted in both MP3 and FLAC at this point and that is Katowice Poland 6/16/2000. Those MP3s are at 320kbps.

You don't really have to have anything "new" to offer. If you're downloading from a torrent tracker what you do is that, once you've downloaded the show, stay on after you're done to help others get it as well. If you're not downloading from a tracker, then be on the lookout for someone looking for a concert you may have. Either you can offer to copy it for this person via B&P or copy it on a disc from your own supply and send it to this person. Keep in mind that copying a show takes time and effort and, believe it or not, some of us have lives outside this message board so, getting someone to copy and send you a show is an accomplishment on its own. Also, if you have web space, you can post the shows you have (however many they are) for others to get. That's how you "share the love" so to speak. Just a few suggestions at least. Just be willing to share with others what you have. The only time I can think of where you really have to be "concerned" about downloading and not sharing anything is when you are downloading from torrent trackers. They may lock you out if you only get and don't share. But, like I said, if you are downloading from trackers, just make sure you stay on after you're done to help others get the show. If your download/share ratio is 1:1 or better, then you have nothing to worry about.

The Munich show in FLAC format. (this is a torrent site). You need to be a member at dime (it's free).

I know I'm Gone will post on the reserve once he's back from Wembley, but if you want the show now......try this.
