set: Once, State of Love and Trust, Even Flow, (Outshined)/Garden, Alive, Black, Deep, Why Go, Porch, Breath
notes: This free, outdoor show was also Dave Abbruzzese's first concert drumming with PJ and the last show of the summer '91 Sounds of Seattle concert series (later called "Pain in the Grass"). As an intro to 'Porch,' Ed says, "This song is about if you love someone, tell him." Ed climbs the speaker stacks during 'Porch' and glances over his shoulder at the Space Needle. Ed takes Jeff's basketball from behind the speakers and throws it playfully into the crowd. The ball makes its way back to the stage during 'Breath.' The seldom played 'Breath' is wonderful.
1991-08-29 Seattle: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ky7qu0
set: Once, Even Flow, State of Love and Trust, Alive, Jeremy, Why Go, Porch
notes: This ASCAP showcase occurs the same day that PJ releases their debut album, Ten. Mike plays the end of 'Alive' atop Ed's shoulders. Ed swings from the rafters for 'Porch' high above the crowd. He swings back and forth and finally lets go, falling into the crowd. He's back on stage in a flash to bash the cymbals with his microphone. All this for a $5 cover!
1991-11-11 New York: http://www.sendspace.com/file/jnluy3
set: Wash, Once, Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy, Black
notes: Setlist above is incomplete and out of order. Eddie apologizes for his hoarse voice. Half-way through the show Ed takes off his shirt and underneath he was wearing a Nets jersey (or the Mock Nets / Pearl Jam jersey) and the crowd starts booing him. Eddie laughs a bit and says something to the effect of "You New Yorkers are tough".
1991-11-12 New York: http://www.sendspace.com/file/fm9gin
set: Release, Even Flow, Window Paine/Once, Alive/Suggestion, Jeremy, Porch
notes: A small riff from 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' is played during the short version of 'Window Paine,' leading into 'Once.' During 'Once,' Ed sings, I've got nothin' to say ... but I hope the Knicks win tonight." Ed jokes about "George" (Bush) being in town and how the streets were blocked off. He goes on to say that George wanted backstage passes for the Peppers, which leads into 'Alive.' Before 'Porch,' Ed asks to see the biggest Knicks fan in the crowd and offers to take the fan to see the Knicks and the Nets play at MSG after the shoe. Ed mentions that the Pumpkins and Chili Peppers will play later.
1991-11-14 New York: http://www.sendspace.com/file/yuuf0x
set: Wash, Black, Alive, Oceans, Porch
notes: Similar to 11/9/91 Tower Records appearance. Small stage is set up in record stores and band performs a short, informal, excellent acoustic set. Ed sings with no mic for half the show. He is hoarse form seven shows in seven days and he ad libs a line in 'Alive' that garners a laugh from the crowd: "Is something wrong she said ... of course there is yeah ... I have no voice he said ..." Someone in the crowd comments on Ed's bandaged hand and he tells them he hurt it Tuesday (two nights before in New York at the Roseland) bashing Dave's cymbals. The small audience calls out requests so PJ does 'Oceans.' They strum a bit of Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' before 'Porch.' Ed is wearing his white Doc Martens (the same ones in the photo on the cover of the Australian 'Even Flow' CD single that got a lot of attention at the time.) Booksigning and pictures follow the set.
1991-11-15 New York: http://www.sendspace.com/file/h70uva
set: Black, Once, Even Flow, (Funky Crime)/(Window Paine), Alive, Jeremy, Why Go, Porch
notes: After Even Flow, Ed sings a couple of lines from the Red Hot Chili Pepper's 'Funky Crime', from Uplift Mofo Party Plan. (The line "I do what I wanna do!" is repeated throughout that song.) Before 'Porch,' Ed jokes about his hand injury: "... if you're wondering about the cast, I saw the Michael Jackson video and I just wanted to be like him," (a reference to MJ's gloved hand).
1991-11-16 New York: http://www.sendspace.com/file/2ngemg
set: Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy, Why Go
notes: Setlist is likely incomplete. Ed leads into 'Alive' with: "So your parents can't give you no fucking shit for coming here and going crazy tonight 'cuz this is where they all lost their virginity. This building, this room might be the very reason you're alive."
1991-10-22 Milwaukee: http://www.sendspace.com/file/l6ps0a
set: Wash, Once, Even Flow, Alive, Suggestion/Jeremy, Why Go, Porch
notes: 'Alive' is dedicated to "... everyone who came out from Chicago, with love." Ed is given a flower and comments, "This is the first flower I ever got. I think I'm gonna eat it."
1991-11-21 Ann Arbor: http://www.sendspace.com/file/6b2piy
set: Wash, Once, Even Flow, State of Love and Trust, Alive, Black, Deep, Jeremy, Why Go, (Funky Crime)/(Window Paine)/Porch
enc: I've Got a Feeling
notes: Ed remarks, "There's nothing better in the whole world than a sea of people ... it's just the tide has to go out a bit ... take a step back ... give a little breath and don't fuckin' get up here and jump unless you know what you're doing. Let's just enjoy the experience." Jeff asks Stone if Scully gets "paid double" with Stone responding, "I dunno ... can we?" Ed responds, "We're not doing this for us ... it's for them." He then thanks the Chili Peppers for giving them the night off so they can "... be a real band" and introduces 'State of Love and Trust' as from the movie they are going to be in. The 'Deep' lyrics are modified to "... on the edge of an Ann Arbor town." Ed asks the crowd to pass him to the back during 'Porch.' 'Outshined' and 'Oceans' are intermingled in the jam during 'I've Got a Feeling.'
1991-11-22 Detroit: http://www.sendspace.com/file/gx015r
set: Release, Even Flow, Once, Alive, Jeremy, Why Go, Porch
notes: A very chatty show. Ed greets the crowd with "Good evening. A really nice place you have here. I don't know if you've been waiting for this but we have so ..." 'Release' leads in with "heys" instead of "whoas" and lyrics are changed to "We're in Detroit, like you somehow." Then, "OK, let's get this distortion here. The rest of the night's fuckin balls to the wall." After 'Even Flow,' Ed notes, "I like the way this is set up: you got the hardcore fans right up front, the cool people are right after them - they're happy to go nuts with just their arms folded. And then in the back we got all these PEOPLE playing with themselves." During 'Once,' he sings, "I got nothing to say, except throw those guys out a window." Later: "I don't suppose any of you guys are Pistons fans, huh? Just ... while no one's around ... I just wanna tell ya: I feel really bad that the Bulls beat em. I'm ... fuckem. I hate those fuckin Bulls, man. Those fuckin bastards. What an ego that Jordan guy's got, huh? I should tell you though: Michael Jordan is my illegitimate father. And Jeff, right after, (to Jeff: you ready to go?) Jeff and I are gonna go watch the Pistons play the Knicks as soon as we walk off stage. So, who should we root for? (crowd yells "Pistons") This is for the Pistons ... 1-2-3-4."

set: Wash, Once, Even Flow, State of Love and Trust, Alive, Garden, Deep, Black, Jeremy, Why Go, Porch
enc: Breath, I've Got a Feeling
notes: It takes a while for Ed to warm up to the crowd but then he gets chatty, talking about how they haven't been to Texas before, how they stole Dave from Dr. Tongue ("tough shit") and asks if Tom Landry is there. He tells about the Singles movie and how the next song is from the movie ('State of Love and Trust'). During 'Alive' he climbs up a speaker stack and jumps off, later pulling off a shoe and looking at it saying, "I'm not getting enough air out of my Air Jordan's." A cool version of 'Garden' features full harmonies by Jeff and Stone and Mike's sweet guitar solo. Then Ed asks if Tom Landry is "... here tonight? He was on our guest list, huh? This is for Cowboy fans," leading to 'Deep.' 'Jeremy' has a nice jam and Ed explains the Jeremy story, asking the crowd if they know where Richardson, Texas is and how Jeremy shot himself in front of his English class. "Maybe he should have just ran away ... why go home? He says, "Almost all our titles are one word," leading to 'Black.' He counts off the "1, 2, 3, 4" lead-in to 'Porch' while Mike is still untangling his guitar cord and trying to plug it in.
1991-10-26 Cleveland: http://www.sendspace.com/file/1i685w
set: Wash, Once, Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy, Why Go, Porch
notes: Ed addresses the (perhaps lame) crowd, talking about how Flea had smashed his guitar the previous night because the crowd was so into it. It was his favorite bass of the past 3 years. But if "this" keeps up, Flea's not gonna be smashing any basses tonight. Ed invites a dozen or so fans on stage to dance and then yells at someone during 'Porch:' "Leave them alone. Hey! One song. They're gonna stay there one song!" Later he takes a running leap into the crowd.
1991-11-02 Burlington: http://www.sendspace.com/file/9sgsg6
set: Wash, Once, Even Flow, Alive, Suggestion, Jeremy, Why Go, Porch
notes: After 'Why Go,' Ed says, "I have a gift for you. I know you guys get hungry up in front. No band's ever paid any attention to this. Don't ever tell 'em that PJ forgot about you. Some grapes for all my good friends and a banana for [unintelligible]."
1991-11-03 Springfield: http://www.sendspace.com/file/cloklt
set: Release, Even Flow, (Suggestion)/Why Go, Alive, Porch, I've Got a Feeling
notes: Ed greets the crowd: "Hello Springfield. I always knew if we played a room this big it would be half empty, but you know, to me, it just looks like a small club that's full. You guys are there. You're standing on an ice rink. We're gonna warm it up real slow. By the end of the night, it'll be melted away." Prior to 'Alive,' Ed says, "We made some new friends right before the show ... actually, I hope you're all friends. I hope you're all friends with each other." During 'Porch,' Ed changes the words to, "What the fuck is this world coming to, can't even jump into the crowd without you takin the fuckin shirt on my back" He announces, "Enjoy the Pumpkins. After this, we've got the Red Hot fuckin' Chili Peppers," before 'I've Got a Feeling." Great show; the band is really on.
1991-11-08 New York: http://www.sendspace.com/file/1o2hnb
set: Black, Even Flow, Why Go, Jeremy, Alive, Once, Porch, I've Got a Feeling
notes: This show was unannounced and the audience consisted primarily of fan club members and press. Unusual opening with 'Black,' by request.
1991-11-09 New York: http://www.sendspace.com/file/75a1vi
set: Wash, Black, Alive, Suggestion, Porch
notes: Small, in-store promo for their first album, Ten, with PJ in a festive, friendly state. Before the set begins, Ed is thumbing through a magazine trying to pick out his first tattoo and later modifies some of the 'Alive' lyrics, a reference to selecting his tattoo on his arm, making the band laugh. ("'Son,' she said, 'why'd you pick that tattoo?'" and later, "'Is something wrong?' she said. Of course there is, yeah. 'You're unplugged,' she said. It's driving me crazy.") The guys strum a bit of Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and The Who's 'Behind Blue Eyes.' Ed looks around during 'Porch' for something to climb and, finding nothing, stands on Dave's kick drum. Excellent acoustic set .

set: Once, Even Flow, State of Love and Trust, Alive, Black, Deep, Garden, Jeremy, Leash, Why Go, Porch
enc: Suggestion
notes: After 'Garden,' Ed notes, "We didn't put Jeremy on the list!" and asks the crowd if they want to hear 'Jeremy' or another song, leading to a quick, little "hey ho, let's go" (Ramones' 'Blitzkrieg Bop'). Then they go into a few 'Smell Like Teen Spirit' riffs, with Ed following up by singing, "I feel stupid" to the 'Teen Spirit' tune. Ed sings two lines from 'Outshined' as a lead-in to 'Leash.' At the end of 'Porch,' Jeff breaks his ankle so they cut the show short. Ed comes out and sings 'Suggestion' solo as a brief encore.
1991-12-31 San Francisco: http://www.sendspace.com/file/49husa
set: Once, Even Flow, (Suggestion)/Why Go, Jeremy, Alive, Leash, (Smells Like Teen Spirit teaser), Porch
notes: New Year's Eve and three great bands! Ed comments, "If I wasn't in this band, I would still make sure I was here tonight." Ed sings part of Fugazi's 'Waiting Room' as an intro to 'Even Flow.' A driven performance, with a particularly intense version of 'Alive.' Flea of RHCP assists with vocals during 'Leash.' The 'Teen Spirit' teaser (actually the longest teaser I've heard) is followed by Stone's quip, "Just remember, we played it first." Ed performs one of his finest stage dives, repeating it later during the 'Yurtle the Turtle' encore with the Chili Peppers.

THANK YOU so much for posting ALL of these shows....is there anyway you can grade the quality of the shows as well? i'd love to download a bunch, but i don't want to waste my time getting really crappy ones.
if not, no worries....keep up the great work!!!

also, one more thing i noticed (sorry if i'm being a pain), but the first few tracks from the 7*14*99 show are mislabeled.
I Can't Explain is Heaven And Hell
Young Man Blues is I Can't Explain
Fortune Teller is Young Man Blues
Tattoo is Fortune Teller & Tattoo (starts around 2:32)
everything else is correct...
okay, that's it for tonight!!

I hate to do this, but I would like a complete recording of the 3/28/92 performance. I've been looking for the complete show, but I always find it missing the ending. Thanks in advance.
I don't know if this is complete, cause not the whole concert was broadcast in radio.

enc 2: Window Paine, I've Got a Feeling
notes: Part of this show was broadcast on FM radio. Ed is very upbeat and modifies the 'Release' lyrics to, "I am myself in this, your hometown," likely referring to his father's hometown (Chicago). He notes, "The person the next song is written about is here tonight" before an incredible 'Why Go.' Billy Corgan (wearing a dress), Jimmy and D'Arcy from The Smashing Pumpkins join PJ for 'Window Paine' and 'I've Got a Feeling.' Members of U2 were at the show this night, sizing PJ up as possible tour openers in Europe, and they met up with the band after the show.

notes: A very chatty show. 1-2-3-4."

set: Release, Even Flow, Smells Like Teen Spirit (teaser), Once, Alive, Jeremy, Why Go, Porch
1991-12-11 Dallas: http://www.sendspace.com/file/jujden
set: Wash, Once, Even Flow, State of Love and Trust, Alive, Garden, Deep, Black, Jeremy, Why Go, Porch
enc: Breath, I've Got a Feeling
notes: It takes a while for Ed to warm up to the crowd but then he gets chatty, talking about how they haven't been to Texas before, how they stole Dave from Dr. He says, "Almost all our titles are one word," leading to 'Black.' He counts off the "1, 2, 3, 4" lead-in to 'Porch' while Mike is still untangling his guitar cord and trying to plug it in.

set: Wash, Once, Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy, Why Go, Porch
notes: Ed addresses the (perhaps lame) crowd, talking about how Flea had smashed his guitar the previous night because the crowd was so into it.

1991-12-15 Salt Lake City: http://www.sendspace.com/file/tgi5ft
set: Once, Even Flow, State of Love and Trust, Alive, Black, Deep, Garden, Jeremy, Leash, Why Go, Porch
enc: Suggestion
notes: After 'Garden,' Ed notes, "We didn't put Jeremy on the list!" and asks the crowd if they want to hear 'Jeremy' or another song, leading to a quick, little "hey ho, let's go" (Ramones' 'Blitzkrieg Bop').
Ed comments, "If I wasn't in this band, I would still make sure I was here tonight." Ed sings part of Fugazi's 'Waiting Room' as an intro to 'Even Flow.' A driven performance, with a particularly intense version of 'Alive.' Flea of RHCP assists with vocals during 'Leash.' The 'Teen Spirit' teaser (actually the longest teaser I've heard) is followed by Stone's quip, "Just remember, we played it first." Ed performs one of his finest stage dives, repeating it later during the 'Yurtle the Turtle' encore with the Chili Peppers.
it did work this time...i hate to bust anyone's bubble, but those aren't demos. the songs are from a session they did at 'chop suey' when they filmed the promotional DVD for riot act.

also, one more thing i noticed (sorry if i'm being a pain), but the first few tracks from the 7*14*99 show are mislabeled.
I Can't Explain is Heaven And Hell
Young Man Blues is I Can't Explain
Fortune Teller is Young Man Blues
Tattoo is Fortune Teller & Tattoo (starts around 2:32)
everything else is correct...
okay, that's it for tonight!!
thanks (again).

I don't know if this is complete, cause not the whole concert was broadcast in radio.
set: Release, Improv (You Tell Me)/Even Flow, Rockin' in the Free World, Once, State of Love and Trust, Alive, Black, Deep, Jeremy, Why Go, Porch
enc 1: Garden, Leash
enc 2: Window Paine, I've Got a Feeling
notes: Part of this show was broadcast on FM radio.
