Should they be in the class of 2013?

Their first album came out in 1988, but come on....The album that changed the landscape of America didn't come out till 1991.

Ask any casual fan what they think of Bleach and you'll get blank stares.

    Yes.

Did they last long enough to be in. I dont know how long you need to be a band. If RRHOF is anything like baseball hof they would be boarderline at best.
Some words when spoken...Can't be taken back...

Yes....If they're borderline, then everybody left is borderline.

it doesn't matter when their groundbreaking release came out. they are only eligible 25 years after first release. you aren't getting inducted BECAUSE of your first release.

yes, there's no question they belong there. love them or hate them, they changed the musical landscape forever. I'd say they belong there more than PJ does.

The criteria is just "25 years after release of first record", not 25 years after release of first good record, or first commercially successful album. It's just an eligibility period, not meant to be an anniversary. You don't wait and induct somebody into the baseball HoF on the anniversary of their first good season.

They lasted longer than The Doors and Sex Pistols, both in the HoF.

  • OP is dealing in semantics. Really doesnt matter what year. Nirvana is a band thats going to be inducted reguardless if its this year or 5 years from now.

This board has a long history of hating Nirvana. Most of the world however knows Nirvana as one of the most important bands of our generation and legends.

It gotta be one of the most obvious HoF choices of all time.

I don't think there's any doubt they'll get in the first vote. When I went there in '96 they had a few Nirvana things on display in the museum already, even though Nirvana weren't in the HoF. And the museum has had Nirvana exhibits over the years there. It's just a matter of them turning the right age and they'll officially be inducted in the HoF.

The music HOF is a bigger joke than the NFL Hall of fame.

to answer the question yes they deserve to be in.
This comes from someone who thinks they were overated and really did not "swoon and love their music"

I was "swooned" as soon as I saw Nirvana on MTV, playing Teen Spirit... Like no other band I've ever heard or seen, and they'll NEVER be another one like them...

    Wish you were here...

  • I think its just sort of common sense. I dont like KISS, but its obvious they deserve to be in the HoF, and their importance and legacy is pretty clear.

Same with Nirvana. Its like Kobe. Its obvious the guys going in the HoF. When that happens is sort of irrelevant and we're just splitting hairs.

Lets face it, Grunge and Seattle was Nirvana. They will always be associated with that, and are the main based associated with it.

The legacy of Nirvana is self evident.
  • Also N.W.A should hopefully make it. Definitely HOF worthy.
    NERDS!
  • I wonder who they would get to do the induction speech. It's usually either a newer artist that was influenced by the inductee, or it's one of the inductee's peers...if it's the latter, I could see Ed doing it

Whoever it is, I'm sure Courtney will have something interesting to say about it.

Or maybe it will be her.

I was jazzed, amped, lifted, stoked, pumped, right revved up, excited, jumpin, pumpin and down-right thumpin when I heard this on the news today. Fuckin love Nirvana.

Might as well toss out a few guesses for who will induct them:

    Ed
    Jack White
    Sonic Youth
    Chris Cornell
    Billy Corgan

Fuck I'm usually wrong at these sorts of things.... usually WAY off, but whatevs. Great news - almost as good as the 570Kg main mass being recovered from Lake Chebarkul. (meteorite geek here.)

hopefully not. she's gained enough spotlight and made enough money from a band she wasn't even in.

I think the Vaselines should induct Nirvana when the time comes. People would be like "who the fuck...?"

    Paul McCartney?
    Josh Homme?
  • I bet Michael Stipe inducts them.

Kurt suspected Courtney of having an affair with Corgan while they were married.....so I doubt he'd be allowed in the building.

having a Beatle induct Kurt would be sweet poetry, given how much he loved them. I think it really should be Frances. But the Vaselines or the Meat Puppets would be an epic choice as well.

That's what I was thinking about when I mentioned McCartney. That, and the fact that he's played with Grohl and Novoselic recently.

I didn't even think of Frances. That would be real special.

Love love LOVE the idea of it being Frances that inducts them! If nothing else, no matter who gives the speech, she should accept Kurt's award for him (no way should Courtney be allowed anywhere near the event even). Paul McCartney is a great idea and actually that's the most likely name thrown out so far, since usually the HoF tries to combine current popularity with influence on the inductee (or influence by inductee, i.e. Ed inducting the Ramones and Green Day playing the Ramones songs for their induction). If Kurt loved the Beatles, and Paul just played with the remaning members of Nirvana (incl Pat Smear), then Paul is a great choice.

Also LOVE the LOVE for NWA. They fully deserve to be inducted, but knowing the judges and the process, that one may take a few years... although didn't they open some of the decision-making about who the final inductees will be up to the public in the last couple of years?

  • Frances inducting them would be cool. For a 20 something who is married, and grew up in such a chaotic and tragic home situation she has grown up to be a person of integrity.

That said, obviously with her, theres strong personal emotions attached, and it might be very hard for her to talk publicly about the band and her dad.

Since I grew up with Nirvana, ive tried to keep up with what she's been up to over the years. And back when she was a teen I remember she said she couldnt listen to Nirvana's music because it just made her so sad.

The Replacements belong before Nirvana or NWA
