2012 Made in America Documentary
Ron Howards Made in America documentary is premiering this Friday on Showtime. Philly.com just ran a not so complimentary review:
http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainm ... _talk.html
"Well, your director's eyes could be considerably larger than his mouth. That's not necessarily a liability for a filmmaker, but in this case, it makes for an incongruous and indulgent documentary."
"The performance footage is absolutely magical throughout. Some of the highlights include Janelle Monáe doing a kicky and kinetic version of "Tightrope," an operatic display by local girl Jill Scott, and Eddie Vedder alternating lines with a roaring, rain-drenched crowd on Pearl Jam's "Corduroy."'
"If only Howard was interested in hearing people sing. But he's far more concerned with hearing them talk . . . and talk . . . and talk."
"Though painfully brief, the vibrant footage of acts like Passion Pit, D'Angelo, Dirty Projectors and Gary Clark Jr. on stage indicates that Made in America could have been a magnificent concert film. Instead, it's a pompous, overly earnest documentary, striated with flashes of brilliance."

As for PJ: The very beginning showed JZ coming on stage joining PJ (no music from this part though) and then a bit later they showed most of Betterman and near the end; all of Corduroy. The camera work and visuals are stunning and I went to bed wishing somehow the rest of the PJ video footage is released one day and not left stuck in a vault. What a sin it would be for PJ's entire MIA performance to be video recorded and never see the light of day
Just a warning for those watching it tonight or in the future - not for your children's ears....Just a head's up.

I can't answer that one...maybe they are waiting for the documentary to be released? I wish I knew...even if they released it without JZ coming out on stage at the end, we would gladly take it
That's one of the few videos on youtube that has decent sound quality so I could live with ripping the audio for that one song but I would obviously prefer if they release the whole show.
I ripped the audio on youtube for each song to make myself a "bootleg", but the quality sucks for the most part and the songs don't flow into one another so it doesn't have the same feeling as a real bootleg.
PLEASE RELEASE THE MIA BOOTLEG!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the link.
Definitely a bit wordy. I think Gary Clark Jr. was the highlight.
I enjoyed the interviews, particularly with some of the support personnel, the surviving members of Run-Dmc (who shared their initial reaction the the suggestion that they cover "walk this way" with the original lyrics was negative - "we can't sing this hillbilly gibberish", and Janelle Monae, who explained that she wears black and white to honor her background - her parents worked in service jobs and wore uniforms to work every day.
The music clips were good, especially PJ's "Corduroy" in the pouring rain. I wish they'd made the movie a little longer and included more music, but I enjoyed the whole movie and its themes.
