For a huge fan that has been to every PJ show at MSG to date (fave still 2010, night 2 with Slow Lukin, and yes that includes 9/11/98 and night 1 in 2003), I think the Brooklyn shows are going to be out of CONTROL. It's Friday and Sat in NYC and we owe it to this band to welcome them to this new arena in style. I type this on my way home from the Barclays (seeing Phoenix) and can tell you the arena is beyond perfect. Sight lines are generous and the sound is pristine. If you are on the fence, buy your ticket now. I have a feeling we are in for something unforgettable. The only thing the place needs is a NY PJ crowd. Let's effing do this.

Glad to hear Barclays is so good. Can't wait, it will be great as long as everyone is cool and plays nice.

And where to go for that pre-show beer? Any suggestions from the BK crowd??

  • I live a few blocks from the Barclays Center, these are my favorite bars in the area:

    Fort Greene:
Der Schwarze Kölner, http://www.ex49.com/dsk/ (smallish german beer hall)
Mullanes, http://mullanesbrooklyn.com/ (more of a sports bar thing)
Hot Bird, 546 Clinton Avenue, New York, NY 11238 (this is on the border of fort greene & prospect heights), http://nymag.com/listings/bar/hot-bird/

    park Slope:
    4th Ave:
4th Ave Pub, http://nymag.com/listings/bar/4th-avenue-pub/ (free popcorn!)
    Pacific Standard, http://www.pacificstandardbrooklyn.com/
Cherry Tree Pub, http://nymag.com/listings/bar/cherry-tree/ (my friend used to live in this space before it became a bar)

    5th Ave:
    Uncle Barrys, unclebarrys.com‎
Black Sheep Pub, 428 Bergen Street

    Prospect Heights:
There's a bunch of decent bars and lots of restaurants on Vanderbilt Ave btwn Pacific and St. Marks

    on Atlantic Ave:
Hank's Saloon, 46 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217 (this place is just awesome. nuff said)
Hollow Nickel, 494 Atlantic Avenue, hollownickel.com‎ (this place is pretty new, went once. seemed cool, it has a backyard)
There's a new "fancy" beer place near the stubhub office on Atlantic Ave as well. just opened a few weeks ago.

That's a great list of bars that was just posted and I've been to most of them. I think my friends and I are heading to Soda Bar of Vanderbilt Ave, but there are a bunch of great spots on Vanderbilt, just south of Atlantic Ave. They are only a few blocks away from the arena. Another great spot (huge bar with indoor bocce ball and all around good time) is Union Hall in Park Slope. It's about a 15 minute walk from the arena, but a great place to have a little fun before the show. It would be cool if some of these bars had planned pre-show parties (like all the bars in Wrigleyville did back in July).

Re my suggestion to buy a ticket if you are on the fence, this wasn't meant to be an actual offer or solicitation; I just thinks the shows will be worth paying for, even if StubHub is the only reliable merchant. I've always had luck getting a ticket to any show I've needed to. See my other post about deciding to fly to Chicago the morning of the Wrigley show and getting a ticket for face (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=212468)...I'm a lucky guy, for sure.

So glad to see the thread is picking up again. I've had the LB stream going nonstop for a week and actually got an alert from VZ wireless that I am nearly over my data limit! I am really excited to hear these new tracks live and I'm very interested to see what the energy level in Barclays is going to be. I think it's going to be out of control, but we'll see... For anyone considering going to a bar in Manhattan and then taking the train down, I would consider staying local in Bk instead. There are a ton of great bars within a 10 minute walk and you just don't want to get stuck missing any of the show. And let's be honest local folks, Brooklyn is where it's at now. Like I said in first post, let's do this!

Does anyone know about parking around Barclays Center? I went to Barklaysparking.com and thee were plenty of options that were reasonably priced. My question is this: some say "garage" and some say "surface lot". Am I to assume the garages are valet and they take your car and put it on a lift and rack and stack? Can I assume that a surface lot is one that I drive into and park my car...and tailgate for a bit? They all say arrival up to 2 hours prior and I'm coming from CT so I'd like to come a little early and drink a few beers before the show.

I didn't see any parking lots like that. Unless you count the Key Food parking lot on 5th ave. There's a bunch of bars and restaurants along that block. There's also a buffalo wild wings and an applebees in the mall/shopping center thing across the street from the Barclays. But there's not giant open parking lot like what they got at Shea stadium where ppl would be tailgating - not that I saw anyway.

Today was a holiday but my friend drove and found a parking spot right away on one of the residential blocks 2-3 blocks away. This was about 530pm. So if you're coming early you might get lucky and not have to put the car in a lot at all.
