Listening to STP's purple and thought about this question.

Of all the bands of the 90's, who do you think had the best "Sophmore" album.

Nevermind would be a Sophmore effort i think, so i'd go with that.

I didn't like VS when it first came out

I was thinking about that. I think Dookie from green day would be eligible. Not sure though.
  • I would say VS. Easy one for me, one of my favorite albums of all time.

Besides VS, I would say the Foo Fighter's "There is Nothing Left to Lose" My favorite Foo's record by far. Not a huge fan of their first album.
    Tres Mts- 3/16/2011
    Eddie Vedder- 7/16/11
    Brad- 4/21/12 (RSD Performance), 4/27/12, 8/10/12
    Flight To Mars- 5/23/12
    RNDM- 11/27/12

PEARL JAM- 12/6/13 I have finally seen Pearl Jam live!

Foo's sophomore album was "The Colour and the Shape" and it's awesome - it was their best album to date IMO, and produced their biggest hit - Everlong.

thefixer9 - There's Nothing Left To Lose was their third album, but also a great record! :D

    Some of the obvious ones:

    VS
Dirt (if the Sap EP does not count)
    Nevermind
    Dookie
    Siamese Dream

And if their live 1st albums do not count:
    Ritual de lo Habitual
    Sailing The Seas of Cheese

    And some lesser known gems:

Pond - The Practice of Joy Before Death
Sunny Day Real Estate - LP2

and a lesser known band I loved in college:
Shootyz Groove - Jamming In Vicious Environments (they had a live EP first)

The Bends was the first record to spring to mind, still my favourite of theirs.

Haha, didn't think of them but fuck if I didn't listen to Pavement as much as anyone except PJ in the 90s.
Not their best album but a really good one. Saw them a few years ago w/Sonic Youth. What an amazing concert.

I had never even heard of Pavement until I kept reading about Billy Corgan trashing them on grungereport.

I saw them 3 times in 2010 for their reunion shows. I love the first 3 albums, and like their final 2. I think this is the consensus among most of their fans.

I like them better than Pumpkins.
Personal choice. They are certainly weirder.
Also, not crazy many of Corgan's opinions.

A masterpiece. What "emo" should sound like. Too bad Weezer never released anything worth listening to after this.
