How does the yogurt work with stuff like orange, pineapple or kiwi? In my experience, these fruits tend to get a bitterish taste when combined with dairy. I think it has to do with the vitamin c, but I'm not sure ...

spinach... my very best vegetable friend. i eat $2.19 worth of spinach every day. it makes a good three large salads. frig.

i can freeze spinach? just recently i found out one could freeze & grill bananas; i've yet to try either one. so i get freezer bags & put the peeled bananas in them? freezing these nanaers is a good plan to avoid tossing out spoiled ass bananas.

That would work. You can also just wrap them real well in foil but I think the freezer bags sound better.

Butcher's paper is very handy. That should work too.

Don't know about freezing spinach. My guess would be to wash it well and dry it, then flash freeze. But that's just a guess.

I peel all the overripe bananas, place them on a cookie sheet and put in the feezer until solid. The frozen bananas come loose quite easily, and then I just place them all into a ziplock feeer bag. As I need bananas I pull one out to pop into the blender for a smoothie or pull out several to thaw for banana bread or muffins. It works like a charm and I can save money by purchasing over ripe bananas at the store for 1/3 the cost of ready to eat bananas.

I know that a lot of people drink smoothies. I only drink them when I want some kind of healthy dessert. I make them with blueberries or strawberries with vanilla yogurt.

Other than for dessert, what is the benefit of drinking smoothies if you're trying to lose weight? Wouldn't eating the fruits and vegetables whole be better because they are harder to digest?

Is it just for the taste? :geek:

will a banana take weeks or months frozen?

That is freakin brilliant. I usually use the overripe ones for hummingbird cake but I don't always want to bake a whole cake. Now I can stash them away.

  • All these combos sound delicious. My go to is strawberry/banana combo with a little low fat milk and dash of honey but I'm going to have to start experimenting. Never thought of using frozen fruits, genius if you like it cold.
    Cheers!

It doesn't have hummingbirds in it, in case you were wondering!

Hummingbird cake is very popular in the south. It includes mashed bananas, crushed pineapple, and pecans. Cream cheese frosting. Very tasty and more moist than banana bread.

Always a big hit at the office.

a whole day and four hours?
yes & now add some 12 or 16 hrs or maybe 11

your smoothie blend you posted sounds fantastic. cottage cheese... wow
    woulda never thought of that

the cottage cheese just packs in that extra amount of protein. i guess greek yogurt would work just as well.

i use the magic bullet for all of mine. often times i feel i put too much stuff in it and the smoothie becomes too thick. the bullet isn't that big. are you guys using something like this or a big blender?

I use a big blender...4 kids drink a lot of smoothie. I use about 2 cups of fruit, 1 cup of yogurt and enough milk or juice to thin it out to blend. The fruit is usually frozen because we like them ice cold.
