homemade smoothies

first & foremost i searched "homemade smoothies" & (just) "smoothies" in the search bar & found no smoothies thread of any kind other than the naked brand smoothy thread. that is not the topic.
i been blending my own smoothies the last 28 hrs & i've blended four smoothies in this time & i am amazed by the results as i have very rarely ever had a homemade smoothie.
one banana, one peach, 1/2 mango, handfulla grapes, a quick few shots (not measured, only poured out of jug) of apple juice. blender...smash, buzz, spin & crunch
incredible drink
so, what do you blend up for your best smoothies? i don't drink alcohol so therefore i don't add any but please carry on if you do drink the stiffer stuff. those rums & vodkas sure do make a badass flavored up drink
i am going to add spinach to the above mentioned fruity blend tomorrow. anyone add spinach to their fruits blend?
also, i am amazed at how filling this homemade smoothie is in comparison to the naked brand smoothies. exciting stuff for those of us into healthy eating & daily exercise (swimming
)
carrots? tomatoes? broccoli?
let's blend, drink & be merry. thank you

I used to make them occasionally. My favorite combo was banana, strawberries and orange juice. Or peach instead of strawberries.

Yum - that sounds delicious.
I haven't made smoothies in a few years, but I used to make one with strawberries, bananas, mangoes, and yogurt. They are really good - need to find that recipe!

I love crunchy things, I need something to bite
I used to have a mix of frozen raspberries, yogurt, a little water to make it fluid, a pinch of cinnamon and a bit of honey fro breakfast in summer every now and then. That was great too.
Never tried the spinach stuff - dies it actually taste like spinach?
As for veggies ... I love veggie juice. Not the plain tomato stuff, veggie juice, with carrot, celery, onions etc etc ... I only found the V8 stuff over here, but I don't like GMO stuff, so I need to find an alternative. For veggie stuff, I always add a little olive oil.
Yum. That sounds good!

i wouldn't think spinach would go with all that fruit?
You really don't taste the spinach (honest). With the greek yogurt and kefir as a base, plus all the other fruit, any of the bitterness that frozen spinach can have is overwhelmed by the other flavors.
Trust me. I'm a smoothie addict. I've got lots of good combos too. Greek yogurt, kefir, pineapple, banana, peach...it'll change your life.

Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
Butthead: Huh huh.
My recipe:
Take fresh strawberry & banana, clean and chop into bits. Freeze until ready for use.
Take vanilla or banana yogurt (I've used Dannon, Dannon light & fit, and Fage Greek Yogurt. The Greek yogurt makes the smoothie very thick and requires a lot of extra milk to thin it out. I experiment with the brand (translation: I buy whatever is on sale)) dump the yogurt on the bottom, then the fruit, then a little milk for fluidity. No ice necessary.
Looking for a desert smoothie? Follow the above directions but add a spoonful of Nutella
Damn-the-fruit-is-gonna-go-bad-soon recipe:
Clean, chop and freeze whatever you got. Dump it in a blender with vanilla yogurt. If it's mostly green & orange fruit, add a splash of OJ.
Damn now I want a smoothie.

i can freeze spinach? just recently i found out one could freeze & grill bananas; i've yet to try either one. so i get freezer bags & put the peeled bananas in them? freezing these nanaers is a good plan to avoid tossing out spoiled ass bananas.

Don't know about freezing spinach. My guess would be to wash it well and dry it, then flash freeze. But that's just a guess.

I peel all the overripe bananas, place them on a cookie sheet and put in the feezer until solid. The frozen bananas come loose quite easily, and then I just place them all into a ziplock feeer bag. As I need bananas I pull one out to pop into the blender for a smoothie or pull out several to thaw for banana bread or muffins. It works like a charm and I can save money by purchasing over ripe bananas at the store for 1/3 the cost of ready to eat bananas.
Other than for dessert, what is the benefit of drinking smoothies if you're trying to lose weight? Wouldn't eating the fruits and vegetables whole be better because they are harder to digest?
Is it just for the taste? :geek:
will a banana take weeks or months frozen?
