  • I really didn't know that was a rule. I thought that bootlegs were typically ok if there was no way of getting official versions. Based on all of the hype about this song lately, I feel like it would be a shame if I didn't get to hear it. I'd love if these shows were officially released, especially the ones I went to!
It's only a rule for the Eddie solo shows. They don't really seem to care about Pearl Jam bootlegs.

  • First off, thanks for the hook up. He does a good job, but to me, noone could ever touch Johnny Cash's version. Of course that was in the studio, with a band, not live, solo.

PM's can be accessed by mods, but ya know how much time it is to check every single pm by users here? plus how many post on the boards each minute that has to be read & reviewed if it's ok, has to be deleted, illegal etc.. ? there's a privacy standard too. i'm a mod on another board, and i would never check somebody's private messages, that's not posted live on the board for other's to see. NEVER! if other's are bothering you or spying/stalking you, and you need help from a mod, then yes, mods should get involved and see what's going on. but to just randoming go into your inbox and check your messages, what you talk about, send links too, what poster to buy or which diner is great to take your lady out to etc.. that's just wrong.

No disrespect to the 10Club policy, but after listening to this great cover of Hurt, I feel that Eddie could sing "La Cucaracha" and it would sound amazing too. Any song this guy sings sounds simply amazing!

    Please... not THAT song. :p

I buy into this line of thinking rather than get too paranoid about what goes into my PMs. Plus, you can always control how discrete you are about information in your PMs. It's simple to just exchange an e-mail address and then communicate from there. My original point was the usual refrain: find a different way - don't post on the boards. Yawn.... ;)

I will have to agree that Trent does it best (obviously). Its about 50-50 on a NIN board that I go to as to who likes it and who doesn't. I was still delighted that Ed covered it.

Some people around here just need to fucking relax when it comes to someone posting an "illegal" link. It's just someone trying to share some great music w. everybody else. If it gets taken down, it gets taken down. It will be popping up again somewhere else........

Ed did a great job on this even though he played it a little too fast. There a portions of the song that should have been just Ed playing his guitar and maybe stomping the beat.

It would be a shame if Ed doesn't play this song more in the future (perhaps as pre-sets).
  • Bottom line... its a feckin' great song.

I loved this cover...great work by Ed, a bit too fast, but great nonetheless...however, I agree with some posters, the NiN version is the best!!

One question: i always thought it was written by Reznor, and covered by Cash, but now I have doubts...who wrote it? Cash or Reznor?

THAT is completely a matter of opinion! For me it will always be Trent's.

Ewank, Hurt is originally off Nine Inch Nails' album The Downward Spiral from 1994.

Trent wrote it, but he had this to say about Johnny Cash's cover of it:

"I pop the video in, and wow… Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps… Wow. I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore… It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning — different, but every bit as pure." --Alternative Press #194, Sept. 2004
