I used to go into the X-Philes chatrooms on AOL back in 97 and we'd talk about an episode while watching it live. That was Fun, wish they had gone with Bruce Campbell instead of Robert Patrick, that's when i walked away. That first season i used to turn down hanging out with my friends on Friday nights so i could watch. I was Happy when they moved it to Sunday's.

The wife and I are watching it on Netflix. She's a first timer (loves it) and I'm re-watching it and I have to say it not only holds up but it gave birth to Lost, Battlestar and parts of the Whedonverse not to mention gave the showrunners of Breaking Bad and Homeland their starts. An amazing show. It suffered at the end (and I'm starting to see that in season 7) but seasons 4, 5 & 6 (particularly 5 & 6 stand up with any show ever).

loved the show in the day. I would watch the reruns. Really was into the early seasons, but as it wore on started getting sick of it, but great show. I use to think Scully was so hot :geek:

About 6 months ago or so I set out to watch the entire series and both movies as I had never seen them. I finished the first 5 seasons and the first movie, but haven't made any headway in about a month.

    I Want to Believe....

Awesome awesome show - one of my all time favorites - watched it through about 4 times. When it was on TV, I used to make my kids go to bed before it started, and they told me years later that hearing that beginning music used to strike fear in their hearts as to how scary it must be since I wouldn't let them near it.

It lagged a little toward the end, though the new characters made it their own. Mulder was the real star though, and when he left it just wasn't ever the same. Skinner was an awesome character too though.

  • I could never get through season 6 either.... First 5 seasons and the first movie was awesome. That 6th season is like pulling teeth for me...

I LOVED that show when I was younger. But I dropped off around the time when Mulder left ... I think I was in college at the time and the show had lost its luster. I wouldn't mind going through and re-watching the entire series, though ... I enjoyed the most recent movie, and was kind of hoping they would make a third. Is there any word on them making a third movie?

I loved the show as well - especially the first few years - I couldn't miss an episode... :D

Yeah David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have both mentioned that they would like to do a third movie. I think they even talked about it at this years San Diego Comic Con. 20th Century Fox hasn't approved anything yet though...

That's what I've heard too. Everybody seems to be on board, but the ball can't get rolling.

There is a 10th "season" of X-Files now coming out in comic book form. The first issue came out in June.

  • I loved this show. One of the cool things was they based alot of the cases on actual legends, myths, stories and such.

Can't get enough of the X-Files. I hope that the rumors of a blu-ray release for late this year are true! I can't wait to re-watch the series in HD.

My favorite episodes so far are the comedy ones. Duchovny is a comedic genius, I knew that before I ever saw an episode of the show. Both times he was on SNL were hilarious, and he was even funny in the otherwise shitty "Evolution". So when they do a comedy episode like "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'", "Bad Blood" or "War of the Coprophages" I think he shines more than the seriously dramatic episodes. He's an OK actor, but his crying scenes and other such emotional parts were somewhat painful to watch. He's great at serious, funny, etc. But sad isn't his strong suit. Even the serious episodes he usually has at least one really funny moment or dry joke. Like the one where the animals kept disappearing from the zoo and he says "It's all happening at the zoo Scully", that cracked me up. And all the references to his porn addiction are really funny too.

Favorite episode of the series so far is "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'". I don't think there's anything funnier than Jesse Ventura and Alex Trebek as Men In Black. Talk about an odd couple. And Mulder's reaction to the dead "alien", plus Scully not really "pulling off" being a woman were great too.

If I remember correctly, before the release of the second movie, Chris Carter said a third movie dealing with the alien mythology would happen if the second film was successful. But I don't think the suits thought the film brought in enough money, causing the production to slide on the third.

Hmm ... might have to check out those comics ... thanks for passing that info along ...

I was never a huge fan of the show, seen a few episodes here and there but apparently it's coming back for six episodes.

Wait the x-files is on Netflix?!?!

    Never leaving my house again.

I do legitimately wonder how long it would take to re-watch every episode of the x-files, Buffy, and the west wing (in that order). Stupid golden age of tv. I need to check out those comics though, this is the first I've ever heard of them. Unfortunately BOTH the comic book shops i knew as a kid are long gone. :disappointed:

Really? Agent Doggett sucked! hahaha Well, actually the show got pretty bad around the time he showed up.

    I'm pumped!
Do you think it'll be one story, like an extended movie, or 6 separate episodes like the old days?
  • RygarRygar Posts: 8,685
That's a good question. I am thinking it will be like an extended movie but the way they did it with the show - like all the episodes with the alien bounty hunter, for example. Separate episodes but an overlapping story.

I liked the Doggett character, but at that time the episodes were often bad.

I'm very slowly rewatching the series on Netflix now. Still entertaining! I will watch this new series too.
