Love liberals...

I think I figured out what is up with liberals while discussing America, slavery, and genocide.
It seems that liberals project ideas, attitudes, thoughts, feelings, and even actions onto others. I think this is the reason why liberal/left wing people are absolutely unable to debate people who are not liberal. They seem to think of people only as an equal part of the group they are assigning to that person. They are unable to imagine that all people are individuals so they can't accept an argument when a person deviates from the box they believe they are in.
And on the other hand liberals project greatness, kindness, and intelligence on those who are also liberals.
I think it is a natural and normal thing to do because it feels good. But it is also the easiest because it requires no depth of knowledge. It's the nice thing to do and therefore starts with support and ends with the phrases, talking points, cartoons, and demagoguery that inform all their opinions.
I was born a Democrat, voted straight Dem, and campaigned for Democrats. But 21st century Democrats are way way gone.
IMO

i am sorry, but the conservative movement is dead wrong on almost every issue. name one issue in the last 25 years that the republicans have been right on.... just one thing that they have gotten right. can anybody do it???
our number one priority should be jobs. boehner said it was jobs. he has allowed zero jobs bills to come to the floor for a vote, all while allowing obamacare to be voted on and repealed 40 different times :fp:

Fascinating. I could read your posts all day.
In related news, my dog took a shit this morning that looked like George Washington.
It was kinda freaky. I should have taken a picture but who wants to haul out their cell phone in the park and take a picture of a dog turd, even if it looks like one of our great founding fathers?0 -
I don't know, Otter. Maybe it depends on your sample size or what you're looking for. Just look at AMT, for example. The non-liberals seem to have a harder time using actual facts to back up their positions and tend to lump people in groups, then apply generalizations to those groups. A lot of conservatives seems to grasp on this notion that they are in a constant struggle, their values are under attack, and our country is doomed if the changes they want aren't put into place. I also see conservatives confuse theory with fact a lot. Feel free to pick a topic, start a thread about it, and watch what happens.0

I try to love them.
Today, I was complimented on my NASA patch.
He asked where he could get one....
Politely, I said, ask Obama.
Ummm. He said.... 8 years does alot of stuff...
I agreed... Humble Liberals.. I love them.
I told him he can get a patch in Russia or when NASA cools off about having no budget.
My secret joke.0 -

Um... actually, a snarky answer like "Ask Obama" isn't polite at all. It's rather obnoxious and rude, really.
Pretty much what I've come to expect from conservatives who don't have much left in life aside from crying about the president and complaining about anything done... in this case it seems whining about the budget given to NASA which... isn't really related to anything he's done and we all know that if their budget was higher, conservatards would all be blithering about "government waste" while they "went looking at rocks in space when we have plenty here."0 -

That's a popular thing to say but yes there is a huge difference. Just look at all the bills the GOP sponsors to take rights away from women.

Your first mistake is pointing the finger at someone else and not yourself. It's what's wrong with this country.

They seem to think of people only as an equal part of the group they are assigning to that person. And on the other hand people project greatness, kindness, and intelligence on those who they feel are of a similar mindset.

It's the nice thing to do and therefore starts with support and ends with the phrases, talking points, cartoons, and demagoguery that inform all their opinions. Most people are uninformed. It's common to start vapid threads trying to point out inconsistencies and shallowness in entire groups of people while yet ignoring the fact that indeed you're doing the same exact thing you are trying so mightily to denounce, condescendingly I might add.

I think both Liberals and Conservatives try and force their ideas on others the same. But since Obama is President, we have been seeing the downfall and stupidity of conservatives the most as they try and backlash against the President and try and gain supporters.~Carter~

Liberals still think the country belongs to the people.. equally .. all of the people and that life and health are valuable0 -
I've found that most conservatives that I argue with really don't know as much about the issues as they think they do. They listen to a lot of "news" (i.e. Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, Faux News, etc) but they don't know the actual facts, only the right wing talking points.
I say this as a registered republican. The republican party has completely jumped off the deep end. People tend to stick with their "team" and refuse to accept that their team might be wrong. I jumped ship when McCain picked Palin as his running mate. To me that was a critical point in the republican party. Since then it has been a clown show.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

Is it not best (as Edward Abbey once said) to judge people by the quality of their mind? Liberals and conservatives come in all flavors. To flat out judge one group as if all are the same... huh?"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

Liberals, conservatives, Republicans, Democrats, Tea Partiers, anarchists- we sure get into it here sometimes. As much as I generally avoid using labels to describe myself I'm sure I fit into a few of these categories and I try to keep in mind is that there are people here with whom I've had strong disagreements but never-the-less have developed friendships with and for whom I have a lot of respect. It doesn't mean you have to compromise your beliefs and sparring fairly is not always a bad thing.
Sometimes the gaps are just too big to jump or the chemistry is just all wrong but often, when the intent is to be open minded or accept some differences and if you at least have similar moral or ethical stances with someone the gap can be bridged and you can be friends- good friends even."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
