There is most definitely a way to discuss without name calling a fellow member and hopefully we remember that first and foremost we are all Pearl Jam fans and are here because of our love of their music. So we at least have that in common with each other. I don't post in here a great deal but I do follow all the threads and you guys have some awesome points of view which I enjoy reading. Keep up the good discussion! We have lost some good friends lately from permanent bans and we don't need you leaving to Chad :)
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

    Well said riotgrl.

Permanent banning is a scary subject to me. When I think of a permaban I think vaguely of things like Vonnegut's Fates Worse Than Death or walking the plank or a beheading. A bit exaggerated and maybe overly sensitive, but still, it's a bit akin to how it can feel. I'm guessing most of us don't want bans to happen. I wish some of the permabans could have been just time-outs instead (I'm a time-out kind of guy). I hate seeing people vanish from here and on this forum, I miss some of the friends who are gone, and I'm a bit baffled by the severity of action at times (but yes, I understand it is not mine to say and besides, I've given kudos to mods when kudos were in order.)

For me personally, I'd rather take the "Ship's creaking/ taking on bullshit/ I fucking scream/ jump ship, jump ship," * or "You can't fire me/ I quite" (what's that from?) approach and that has happened here as well. I've thought of quitting a number of times myself. But I'm also a tightwad- I want my monies worth and a chance to throw in my two cents as well and I try to play by the rules. And I'm interested in what others say here too and you all are a very nice fucking bunch of people, (yes, that can be said endearingly) and I consider many of you as good friends. So I hope we all of us will stick it out here and maybe even see some old faces return.

That's my two cents and sticking to it.

    wtf?

I better be careful going at it with Byrnzie over in the dp thread. we might be on the cutting edge as well.

I think everyone needs to calm down. Some of those people mentioned above simply did not renew their membership.

We all can agree that the admin can be to harsh when criticizing or handing down judgements. But lets be honest, some of the people that have been banned had been warned several times for whatever reason. Regardless of what we think of the rules, they still have to be followed.

As far as chadwicks concern, I agree with him. The admin is just that, the admin. They are not a governing power that can talk however they please to the PAYING CUSTOMERS of this fan club.

    Unfortunately some were given permabans.

It seems to me they are a governing power and do have the ability and right to say what they want. Many of us who are into rock and roll are also into the notion of resisting authority- one of rocks sub themes- but the truth is that authority does have its influences here.

I don't think name-calling is appropriate.... However, I think that if someone is acting like a dick then people should be able to let them know it (usually, the person acting like a dick has already done some name-calling of his own). There are ways to tell someone you think they're being a dick without actually calling him one.... but it's a fine line.

she and pandora got banned for life at the same time, to my knowledge.

you and byrnzie aren't even close to anything that is bannable.

I didn't think either one of them should have been banned either, and I wasn't exactly on good terms with either one of them .... I really don't think anyone should ever be banned unless they threaten someone or are caught scalping 10C tix. Detention, okay. But lifetime ban? That's a little over the top IMO.

81 wasn't banned (as you probably already know). He chose to leave - let his membership expire. I think he was sick of not being able to say what he wanted to say and other not being able to, and got bored/annoyed. All the locked threads, etc. That does suck. Then again, if the mods just let everyone run rampant and say whatever the fuck they want to whoever in any way they want it would probably be a shit hole here anyway, and people would leave in droves.
