name calling & down talking

is name calling appropriate? if we 10c member refer to our fellows peers as assholes or shit for brains cave people we will most likely get banned. if i would tell some of you that you are toxic or poisonous to thread topics i'd get a lashing.

circulating information of down talking from administration to us peons runs rampant without restraint

"peons plural of pe·on (Noun)
Noun
1.A Spanish-American day laborer or unskilled farm worker.
2.A debtor held in servitude by a creditor, esp. in the southern US and Mexico." - online dictionary

are we day laborers or unskilled farm workers? no we are not (although some of us may be just that, which is great). are we held in debt to our creditor, the 10c?

i am guilty of being a pain in the ass to all kinds of y'all. this debate section gets fired up. that makes sense. one thing that i do not understand & many others do not get either & that is the all ages forums. horse doodoo

a rock & roll group is rock & roll. this is not a place for 8 year old children to be, whose parents may not like their child being subject to foul language & sexual innuendos. get the kids off the site, parents! unless of course you don't mind your small child reading adult drug & alcohol habits & learning how to swear at a show or how to smear dog turds into his or her's peers' school lunch

i am trying & have been trying to be nice for a very long time while on here & in my personal eye to eye life. i am a wonderful, caring & compassionate man. this place has taken a nose dive for the worse. i am within 1/13 of an inch from leaving. but i stay because i love music, my online pals & mostly i stay because of poetry.

let's try to be nicer to one another. this includes you, the administration. real quick i'd like to say that even if i ever call one of you all a "dipshit jerk water hillbilly prick" it does not mean i hate you. i don't hardly ever hate anyone except rapists, child molestors, serial killers & oppresive rulers.

knock yourselves out,
chad

I don't think name-calling (what are we, tantrum-y five-year-olds?) or condescension has a place here or pretty much anywhere else in the so-called grown-up world.

Sure everyone lapses or regresses at times, but those with backbone and conscience typically own up to it and apologize, try to make things right.

As for you, chadwick...you're good people (love that phrase). Don't be leaving, or I'll have to come out to your neck of the woods and do a little butt-kicking.

(then we can share a bowl afterward  )

First of all Chadwick, I am glad rulers are measures in halves, quarters, eights, sixteenths and thirty seconds of an inch, not 13ths. Hopefully that will better insure you sticking around!

You're quite correct in saying that things get fired up around here and over the three years I've been posting here I've seen some nasty name calling but that doesn't typically last long.

Most of us who come here are passionate about our beliefs and some of us (I've been guilty of this) take what others say personally. That's when it's time to step back and think long enough to find a way to state one's position with clarity, honest and hope what you say makes a difference. It's also useful to keep one's bullshit filter open and see that some comments are simply meant to antagonize-don't fall for it! The other thing I find useful is the Preview and Edit buttons!

Most importantly- DON'T GO CHADWICK! We love you and love hearing your perspective!

my point is admin do it but ban us for doing as they do. 10c admin have been very nasty in the most recent past & we are disgusted by 10c admin's well thought out wording  no one deserves those words. we're talking about breaking hearts here. it was & is uncalled for. ban folks, sure, but do not destroy their self worth & what they love about pearl jam & this community. so very uncool to take the love of music away from people as well as make them feel like they have a plague

Chadwick, dude, we can't lose you. The ” society” from into the wild by Ed, always reminds me of your posts.

I was watching the first ” new” star trek movie last night.

Funny I come across the thread today..

Today at work I was thinking about a comment I made in the paranormal thread.. I was just voicing my opinion, but in hind-sight I felt it was a little harsh.. so harsh that maybe my opinion was lost in the message..

I vowed I would try harder and do better, then boom! this thread..

I agree that not only I but many others need to get a little more cool about shit..

    just my thoughts

  • I just think people need to stop trying to call out other's beliefs and try to show they are perfect. I don't see too much name calling, if I do I don't see it as hurtful really.

There are supposed to be respectful discussions and respect what the original post is about.

But don't leave chad! I officially just started here a few months ago and your posts are great! :D

Chadwick, I don't think you are being a pain in the ass. I think there might be people on here who want to be a pain in the ass, and this is why they behave like they do with name-calling, shit-stirring and all that. Maybe they are bored, maybe they have been treated bad in their life and want to "give something back". We will never know who rained on somebody's parade on that special day. Overall, I think the majority of people on here are quite a good-natured bunch. But at every awesome party there is someone who gets a little too drunk, or feels a little too neglected because he / she cannot seem to join the convos in the kitchen...
It's the internet, but it's also like a micro society. I think it's actually quite interesting. Sometimes I'm just browsing here, reading what everybody has to say, watching how conversations work out or get out of hand. If I would still have to write my thesis, I would probably try to examine this on a more scientific basis.

I have never eaten so much virtual popcorn like in the last couple of years... But I still enjoy it :)

Don't leave, you are one of the good ones

There is most definitely a way to discuss without name calling a fellow member and hopefully we remember that first and foremost we are all Pearl Jam fans and are here because of our love of their music. So we at least have that in common with each other. I don't post in here a great deal but I do follow all the threads and you guys have some awesome points of view which I enjoy reading. Keep up the good discussion! We have lost some good friends lately from permanent bans and we don't need you leaving to Chad :)

    Well said riotgrl.

Permanent banning is a scary subject to me. When I think of a permaban I think vaguely of things like Vonnegut's Fates Worse Than Death or walking the plank or a beheading. A bit exaggerated and maybe overly sensitive, but still, it's a bit akin to how it can feel. I'm guessing most of us don't want bans to happen. I wish some of the permabans could have been just time-outs instead (I'm a time-out kind of guy). I hate seeing people vanish from here and on this forum, I miss some of the friends who are gone, and I'm a bit baffled by the severity of action at times (but yes, I understand it is not mine to say and besides, I've given kudos to mods when kudos were in order.)

For me personally, I'd rather take the "Ship's creaking/ taking on bullshit/ I fucking scream/ jump ship, jump ship," * or "You can't fire me/ I quite" (what's that from?) approach and that has happened here as well. I've thought of quitting a number of times myself. But I'm also a tightwad- I want my monies worth and a chance to throw in my two cents as well and I try to play by the rules. And I'm interested in what others say here too and you all are a very nice fucking bunch of people, (yes, that can be said endearingly) and I consider many of you as good friends. So I hope we all of us will stick it out here and maybe even see some old faces return.

That's my two cents and sticking to it.
