After seeing so many hype about this band, I gave a listen to their Greatest Hits. I understand that judging a band with Greatest Hits is somewhat flawed but my feeling was; for a band receiving such hype, the Greatest Hits issue should have more going on with it. Somewhat left frustrated with it.
And I dont think it is a 'need to listen a few times more' thing. Sometimes you listen to something and you feel like you dont get it yet but the depth is there and you need to endure sometime to get into it. With FF, there was this boy-band feeling to it, which kind of doesnt allow you to respect it.
Sorry FF fans. What's your part, who you are?
2012: Arras, Berlin 1-2
2013: Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires
2014: Milano, Trieste, Vienna, Berlin
2016: NY MSG 10 -

I think you can give a pretty fair assessment of FF with the hits collection. They've put out an album or 2 since its release, but if that didn't grab you, it's doubtful their full albums will do much for you. I'm sure there are some album tracks that stand out, but they usually put their best foot forward when it comes time to pick the singles.0 -

He's a good drummer, and not bad at writing a hook, but I don't think I'd put him in the top 50 best musicians whether we're talking skill, influence or both. I don't think he's really been influential at all.Post edited by DewieCox on0 -

Thank you, man. I am doomed, I guess. There is this sympathy for Dave Grohl, so I cannot write them off that easily. Will try again. What's your part, who you are?

I know, I know...I take back the boy-band expression, not proud of that. :(
I am aware of the Wembley show. If Jimmy Page and J.P. Jones chose to perform with them, they should have something. The thing is there is the huge Dave Grohl factor, he himself deserves so much respect. So I will try again. What's your part, who you are?

3) Tool
4) Radiohead
5) QOTSA
6) Beastie Boys
7) Jane's Addiction
8) Nirvana
9) Alice in Chains

EDIT: It's no accident that I put FNM at the top of my list, no one will ever top them in my humble opinion.
Honorable mentions: Mad Season, REM, Screaming Trees, Foo Fighters, (don't even love them that much, but Dave Grohl kicks ass) RATM, RHCP (Everything up to One Hot Minute, after that they kind of lost me) Morphine, Primus., Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk (can you tell I'm a bit of a Patton fan?), Black Crowes, Flaming Lips, At The Drive In, NWA, Soundgarden, A Perfect Circle, WU TANG CLAN (am I the first to mention the Wu?), System of a Down (even the later albums, which I don't like that much still blow my mind)
I could keep going, I have about 50 bands in my top ten. . . . you get the idea.0 -

I'm going to mix it up quite a bit because I believe there have been some phenomenal "newer" bands that started later on. BTW, this list is in no particular order:
-Pearl Jam
-Incubus (even though I think Brandon Boyd is a snob sometimes)
-Tool
-Smashing Pumpkins
-Foo Fighters
-Soundgarden
-Red Hot Chili Peppers (I only include this because you moved it to 30 years)
-Queens of the Stone Age
-R.E.M. (again because the list was moved to 30 years)
-Chevelle (this is a huge personal one, always love anything they do)0 -
Here's my top ten, not in any order outside the top 2.
Pearl Jam
Buffalo Tom
The Replacements
Rancid
Bouncing Souls
Face to Face
Local H
The Sheila Divine
Mighty Mighty Bosstone
DKM
Gaslight Anthem - favorite band from the last 5 years
Pixies
honorable mention in no order
Radiohead- lost interest after the 4th album
Weezer- 1st 2 albums were great
Foo Fighter -see above
Arcade Fire- incredible debut, looking forward to the next album
Smashing pumpkins- loved the 1st 3 1/2 records, put out alot of crap. Not really a band anymore, just billy and bunch of hired guns
Nirvana- what could have been
