I really thought Foo Fighters would be on everyone's list or higher on rankings.Surprising.I have them tied with PJ as my favorite 2 bands so I guess I'm a ill bias.Question for the posters who didn't include them, Have you ever seen the Foos live?

I've seen them at the Bridge School Benefit and at the Hangout Festival where they headlined the Saturday in 2011. I like them but wouldn't put them in my top 10 of the last quarter century.

On another note...if it were the last 30 years I would have put Metallica but not the past 25. Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets are my 2 favorite Metallica albums and are not in the last 25 years.

Actually, no. That's on the list though. I don't have a really good reason for them not being in my top
    10. I don't listen to them by choice very often, but I do like them ALOT. Fantastically talented and Dave Grohl...sigh...love him.

I've given them a few listens, but I find them obnoxious; especially when they release singles that are seven minutes long. I also think that all of their songs sound identical. There's no denying that their sound was original in the early 90's, but, to me, it hasn't changed at all in twenty years. That's just lazy.

Also, I prefer Meg White's drumming over Tool's; much more raw sounding. I'm not one who cares about how talented a musician is.

I think they've only released on single that was that long and it's easily one of their catchiest tunes. They do come off as pretty obnoxious in some interviews, but the way they handle their art is the exact opposite.

I'll be the first to admit that alot of their songs have similar things going on, but to say they sound identical is off base. They've moved from a really raw guttural sound to a more and more precise, clean, almost clinical sound on the more recent stuff. Their sound has evolved as much as almost any band I can think of, PJ included.

I think "lazy" is the last thing I'd call those guys.

After seeing so many hype about this band, I gave a listen to their Greatest Hits. I understand that judging a band with Greatest Hits is somewhat flawed but my feeling was; for a band receiving such hype, the Greatest Hits issue should have more going on with it. Somewhat left frustrated with it.

And I dont think it is a 'need to listen a few times more' thing. Sometimes you listen to something and you feel like you dont get it yet but the depth is there and you need to endure sometime to get into it. With FF, there was this boy-band feeling to it, which kind of doesnt allow you to respect it.

    Sorry FF fans.

I think you can give a pretty fair assessment of FF with the hits collection. They've put out an album or 2 since its release, but if that didn't grab you, it's doubtful their full albums will do much for you. I'm sure there are some album tracks that stand out, but they usually put their best foot forward when it comes time to pick the singles.

The Foos are good and I've seen them a few times, but they're no where near the best band of the last 25 years.

If this was a best/influential musician of the last 25 years, Dave is top 5.

He's a good drummer, and not bad at writing a hook, but I don't think I'd put him in the top 50 best musicians whether we're talking skill, influence or both. I don't think he's really been influential at all.

Thank you, man. I am doomed, I guess. There is this sympathy for Dave Grohl, so I cannot write them off that easily. Will try again.

I know, I know...I take back the boy-band expression, not proud of that. :(
I am aware of the Wembley show. If Jimmy Page and J.P. Jones chose to perform with them, they should have something. The thing is there is the huge Dave Grohl factor, he himself deserves so much respect. So I will try again.

    1) Faith No More
    2) Pearl Jam
    3) Tool
    4) Radiohead
    5) QOTSA
    6) Beastie Boys
    7) Jane's Addiction
    8) Nirvana
    9) Alice in Chains
    10) Mark Lanegan Band (I originally had RATM in this spot, but Lanegan's solo stuff has meant a lot to me over the last 10+ years, whereas Rage sort of lost me after Evil Empire)

EDIT: It's no accident that I put FNM at the top of my list, no one will ever top them in my humble opinion.

Honorable mentions: Mad Season, REM, Screaming Trees, Foo Fighters, (don't even love them that much, but Dave Grohl kicks ass) RATM, RHCP (Everything up to One Hot Minute, after that they kind of lost me) Morphine, Primus., Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk (can you tell I'm a bit of a Patton fan?), Black Crowes, Flaming Lips, At The Drive In, NWA, Soundgarden, A Perfect Circle, WU TANG CLAN (am I the first to mention the Wu?), System of a Down (even the later albums, which I don't like that much still blow my mind)

I could keep going, I have about 50 bands in my top ten. . . . you get the idea.

I'm going to mix it up quite a bit because I believe there have been some phenomenal "newer" bands that started later on. BTW, this list is in no particular order:

    -Pearl Jam
-Incubus (even though I think Brandon Boyd is a snob sometimes)
    -Tool
    -Smashing Pumpkins
    -Foo Fighters
    -Soundgarden
-Red Hot Chili Peppers (I only include this because you moved it to 30 years)
    -Queens of the Stone Age
-R.E.M. (again because the list was moved to 30 years)
-Chevelle (this is a huge personal one, always love anything they do)
