Just heard in CNN that the pope said that if someone is gay, and accepts god, and has good will; who am I to judge?
I'm in no way religious, but good for him.

A tad two-faced considering his oft aired negative views on homosexuality in the near past...but hey-ho progress is progress...now, will some one rid us of these turbulent priests :corn:0 -

But, imagine if that lack of judgment also removed the "accepts god" part. I mean, if someone has goodwill, if they live by the basic tenets of compassion, generosity and kindness, is (the acceptance of) god necessary?
Those traits in and of themselves should be enough.
For me, they are.
(then again, I'm no pope!)0 -

who wants to bet that this pope just got himself into some serious trouble??"You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

here is my question.
my belief system has changed several times in my 38 years.
can't god evolve his postions from the books written a couple of thousand years ago, or is he bound to what is written? i mean he IS god, so can't he adapt and evolve like everyone else??"You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

If there is a god, I think it'd realize the times, they are (and have been) a'changin.

God has a clever plan for us, good man: At the beginning of our afterlives we travel many times between several after-life vacation spots including Heaven, Purgatory, Hell, Nirvana, The Happy Hunting Ground, Limbo, The Cedar Forest, The Summerland, Asphodel Meadows and even The Rainbow Bridge and then we get to choose one! But we need not be in a hurry, of course."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

For fucks sake people.... Stop dancing in the streets.
He isn't ok with gays.
He's ok with gay priests who choose to remain celebrate. Because that's always worked out so well for the Catholic Church.

Or, in more colorful POD language...
I am supposed to be grateful because now they JUST call me a sinner and not an abomination or the cause for the downfall of civilization?
The pope/head child molester/whatever Frannie Fanny wants to call herself can eat shit as far as I'm concerned. Sell the Vatican. Give the money to their victims. Jail the people you find inside.0 -

Vatican Quickly Performs Damage Control On Pope’s Tolerant Remarks
VATICAN CITY—Following Pope Francis’ tolerant remarks Sunday about homosexuals and the Catholic Church, Vatican officials reportedly went into crisis mode, announcing that the Pope’s thoughtful message of understanding was clearly taken out of context. “It is not the official stance of the Pope or the Catholic Church that all people of good will who seek the Lord, especially gay people, should be accepted by Christ,” a visibly nervous Vatican spokesman told reporters, adding that the Holy Father was clearly tired after his long trip to Brazil and never meant for his comments to sound caring or realistic. “Homosexuality is a disorder. And this in no way means that, going forward, the Catholic Church will be an open-minded, more sensible organization. I assure you we are just as prejudiced and backward today as we were yesterday. Thank you.” According to an anonymous source close to the Vatican, the Pope is currently being yelled at by Church officials, who are telling him, “You don’t just go off script like that. Who the fuck do you think you are?”
