Where on Decatur? My daughter lives in Bed-Stuy but almost in Clinton Hill. I'll see what she has to say. She lives across from some big subsidized apartment buildings, and its not glitzy like Manhattan, but it is a place where people live. Like any city you need to watch yourself, but I didn't feel worried. I park right on the street when I go.

Hi Jane...its 150 Decatur Str...the owner of the apartmenr just told me the area is very diverse with lots of art, bars, shopping around, and that its pretty safe to leave or get to apartment, even at late hours....which is why i booked it in first place. Plus it seems to have good and fast connections to the airport, manhatten and like 5-10 min to barclays. I would rather spend some more $, just so i dont need to look my back all the time.

I will not be spending much time there anyhow....its just a base and a place to sleep.

    Thanks

Last time I was around there was not as nice, but overall, that whole area in Brooklyn has been improving considerably.

There are some hotels closer to Brooklyn Heights, which is a very nice area, also close to Carroll Gardens and Park Slope. Some modest hotels along 4th Ave (Park Slope and Sunset park) might be cheap and within 10 minutes from Barclay's. Park Slope is packed with bars and restaurants, while Sunset park is changing now.

Even being a Brooklynite, I believe 10 days is way to much to be in the area. Perhaps some downtown Manhattan hotel might get you closer to touristic spots.

Well its not really 10 days - 10 days is the full trip.....so pretty much I would stay there saturday - monday(3 days), visiting main spots in NY (manhatten and all those nice areas), then I go to Worcester tuesday, wednesday(2 days)......and then thursday again Brooklyn/NY......friday/saturday is the concert day, which I would spend around arena more or less....sunday is for resting.....and monday off home.

I guess this staying is more for slleeping and starting point.....but you guys gave me smth to think. For sure amkes more sense to be downtown Manhatten, but I guess it can be also much more pricey;)

anyhow....I'll see some of you in the concerts probably...I hope;)

The area is changing. Getting safer and safer every day, condos everywhere although there's still . I'm not THAT familiar with the area, maybe someone can let you know if the specific block you are staying at is OK. Most likely it is.

DO NOT STAY THERE!!! I live in queens NYC that is a bad area. I have also worked
Over there. During the day not so bad but at night...good Luck
Take the clowns advice stay in Long Island or manhattan a lot of subways and
LIRR go to the Barclays where the show is : )
  • Honestly being from the area I would suggest Hoboken across the river. If you aren't renting a car, the train is right there and 5 min to Manhattan. It's about 20 more min to Barclay's from there, and isn't difficult. Hoboken has a great bar scene (depending on what age you are, 25-35 is right for the area.). Just my 2 cents from a local...the city is nice in theory, but it'll be cheaper and just as easy to stay across the river.

Do you mean Brooklyn or Harlem....or both?

Thank you guys for advises.....this trip is harder to organise than I though.....I guess eventually it will all pay off seeing PJ 4x (3x GA):))

Stay in RVC, Rockville Center. It's on long Island, has a nightlife, close to the beach, has the LIRR(railroad) which can take you to JFK, Barclays and direct to Penn station. If you book at the RVC Inn they have a shuttle service to and from the airport.

Not sure what else your plans are here.

Brooklyn is DIVERSE. One block good one block bad. Just like anywhere you need to be aware of your surroundings.

    See you at the show!

Rockville Centre is pretty far... What's your budget? Maybe a different part of Brooklyn, or Long Island City?
  • JosephKJosephK Posts: 220
Try teh Hotel Le Bleu on 4th Ave and 5th Street in Park Slope. It's walking distance to the venue, and Park Slope is great, and safe, at night. 4th Ave isn't hte prettiest to look at, but you'll be fine. You'll also be close to the R train, which will take you into the city.

LIC hotels are OK. There isn't much around there though. Not sure if there are any hotels in Astoria. If there are, it's a bit of a trek to the hotel, but you could make a weekend out of the neighborhood. Mark sure you visit the beer garden there.

I'd avoid Bed Stuy, and staying on Long Island seems like a pain in the ass.

I would recommend staying in an area where there is a subway. Long Island is nice but it's gonna be really really annoying for you to do anything. The only place in this county where you do not need a car is Manhattan, although you can manage in the other boroughs such as Brooklyn. Hoboken in NJ is just across the river but that means you have to pay and take the train to Manhattan and then pay again to take the subway in Manhattan, and wait wait wait for the trains.

I would steer clear of Lenox Ave in Harlem. The area is getting better but it's not there yet. Regarding Bed Stuy, it has a bad reputation.

Have you thought of staying at a Youth Hostel? Some may have small shared rooms that might work for you (I haven't been there in ages though).

You can also look at Sheepshead Bay where there's a Best Western hotel and a Comfort Inn. It's a very Russian area , 20mn away from Barclays with the express train (and a bus ride to the station or 10mn walk).

It's a 30 min train ride and the LIRR accommodates any Barclays event, it's safe, has a nightlife, has food, restaurants, shopping. People actually come HERE to party.

By all means listen to other posts, though it is an easy commute.

No that would be a really long commute of 1.5 hours really, with maybe limited trains to return afterwards??
I've been to Rockville Centre, I grew up a few towns away... this is definitely not what he's looking for, it's totally suburban and full of houses with families inside - when he said that he is 35 and he'd like to hang out around NYC

Personally as a Brooklyn resident, I think you would feel safe enough staying in your apartment as long as you call car service at night. It will only be like $10 and make a big difference. HOWEVER, I don't know if they're going to offer you the best accomodations for your $$$ ? Where did you find that short term rental, it could potentially be gross... especially out there- so careful! Maybe if you give us an approx cost/night we'd be able to advise better?

Maybe BPM Hotel or some place in Long Island City? And then at any/all of them, still go to NYC like you had said.
Also, I vote no to Harlem whoever asked earlier.

    Hi guys,

thank you all for your advises....I am focusing now on finding apartment via Airbnb - Hoboken looks quite ok, but I am not sure how the transport is, specialy how long does it take to AMnhattan, Center, And then Barclays.

What I am looking for is somehow be around bars, restaurants...party places( some rock bars....)...and be close to all those touristic places....plus not spending too much time to get to Barclays

Budget would be approx. $120 per night for 2 persons, so I am not sure if hotel is feasible;))

At the end of the day, I hope to meet some of you guys when I am in NYC....if not earlier, at least at the concert....I really cant wait now;))

    cheers all

Search using the 11217 zip code and you'll find a bunch of nice looking places for under $100 that weekend... walking distance to Barclays, bunch of bars on 4th and 5th Avenues and very close to a variety of subways that will take you in and out of the City.

Lenox avenue is a toss up. The closer you are to Colombia the area gets better, but frankly I wouldn't waste your time commuting to and from Harlem every day if you are only here for a short time. I go to school in Harlem, but on the west side. I don't want to give the place a bad rap and I have never felt unsafe around there but I would recommend you stay elsewhere.

There are several nice looking places within ur budget around boerum hill and cobble hill.

Search using the 11217 zip code and you'll find a bunch of nice looking places for under $100 that weekend... walking distance to Barclays, bunch of bars on 4th and 5th Avenues and very close to a variety of subways that will take you in and out of the City.

Did you see the camper in the junkyard next to artists studio that is going for $80 a night?:lol::lol::lol:

You laugh, but I don't see it available for rent anymore! The price was right for somebody!
