Again, the IRS admitted it acted inappropriately and, if you read down, Jay Carney acknowledged it on behalf of the White House, also deeming their actions inappropriate. This wasn't made up.

Very good, now find a current story written now that we got all the facts straight (or most of them, at least) and from a reputable news agency.

Who would have more facts than the IRS themselves? If they felt their actions were appropriate, wouldn't they have provided these facts in the face of allegations rather than apologizing for acting inappropriately? And what news agencies would you like to see that are more reputable than the AP?

There have definitely been stories for some time now with anonymous sources speaking on running guns through Benghazi to Syrian rebels. The sites I saw reporting it initially were a little sketchy, so I had a hard time buying it completely. Interesting to see this bubbling up to the surface of the mainstream now.

    Phony????

Team obama blamed a youtube video.

  • My theory is that with the era of 24 hour news stations, we'll never have a "Great" president ever again. I use that term as someone who unites the country and is constantly praised. There is no ratings in that.

Think of all of the coverage the Bay of Pigs would be getting now or Iran Contra. I mean Nixon was more in trouble for lack of cooperation rather than the actual cover up. The change began around Clinton and Lewinsky and has only gotten worse since.

Times are different now and it will take a an execptional President to unify our cable news stations. And they frankly don't want that.

But to give the Right a bone I'll admit Obama is far from exceptional.

routine washington business in not an Obama scandle.. this is soooooo silly.. the voters buy into the phoney debates and phoney games both sides sell... it is so out of control. We are just completely failing to handle the real issues of the time.. and we have no idea the consequences.. we are just carelessly waiting for stuff to happen.

Have you noticed Bush is long gone? I am mainly into current events. I have stated before that most (or all, I would like to think there are some honest people left...just do not know where) politicians are crooks.

Go back and read what I posted... a "CURRENT" story that was written once we got all the facts... not just the filtered indignation from the Republican scandal machine.

Something that was written once we found out that actually... it was NOT just Tea Party groups being scrutinized... it was everyone asking for Tax-Free status.

And besides... they still haven't been able to find a group that was denied tax-exempt status because of the made-up "targeting of the Tea Terrorists."

This is a made up story. Much like how Republicans are exploiting the tragic death of four people trying to create a story that isn't a story. Because if they can't rant about made up stories, they have to talk about real ones... and... they REALLY don't want to talk about real stories.

Here is what you are looking for:

    http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/25/politics/irs-targeting

Allow me to call out the key section:

President Barack Obama appointed Werfel to clean up the IRS mess last month after an inspector general's audit uncovered targeting of applications that contained conservative-themed words such as "tea party."

The audit by Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration J. Russell George only cited the targeting of conservative groups, which it said ended in May 2012.

In his first substantive report on the agency, Werfel said Monday that its tax-exempt unit used multiple lists of inappropriate criteria in assessing tax-exempt applications until earlier this month, more than a year later than previously revealed.

The "Be on the Lookout" or BOLO lists included liberal-themed words such as "progressives" and other politically oriented terms such as "occupy" and "medical marijuana" in alerting IRS workers to check for unacceptable political activities, according to copies made available by Democratic Rep. Sander Levin of Michigan.

Werfel said he has suspended the use of BOLO lists in considering tax-exempt applications for now.

It doesn't matter whether the groups being targeted were right-wing, left-wing, or both. The IRS chose to subject certain groups to higher scrutiny based on nothing more than "keywords." This is why they were forced to apologize and this is why it is a scandal. There has to be a singular application process that is equal to all groups and targeting anyone for political reasons is inappropriate. And just in case you still want to claim only RRRREEEEEEPUUUUUUBLICANS think this is wrong,

    Jon Stewart
    http://www.businessinsider.com/jon-stew ... z2TN3dkhUn

    and Dennis Kucinich
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5WTzl4oAlM

    would disagree.

well... except if it was both (and it was), that means this whole "they targeted the Tea Tards for extra special butthurt" meme is made up.

    which was my point.

    So... yay me.

If you're interested enough to pay attention, isn't the fact that a government agency is targeting specific groups more of a concern than whether it was only a group that you disagree with? I'm not sure if you would personally align yourself with "progressive," "occupy," or "medical marijuana," but what if we wind up with a nutty right wing administration in 2016 and it's gay rights groups or the adult industry being targeted?

Yeah. Because the government has never targeted the adult industry or gay people. That's never happened.

    Ever.

:fp: If you'll excuse me, I need to watch the taste of bullshit out of my mouth.

ok. ANY group that is applying for tax exempt status on the basis of their being a political action group of some sort SHOULD be held to scrutiny. They should investigate the "people for the American Way" just as much as "Focus On the Founders." It's too easy to take money, claim it's being used to lobby for a cause and then pocket it all or use it for a completely different cause. Or claim you're taking money to "support lower taxes" and then just use the money to pay for Mitt Romney TV spots. If nobody is making sure that they do what they claim they do, Anyone can just start a political group, get tax-free status and then pay themselves 100% of the proceeds and you and I get screwed.

honestly, it's like people are just looking for something to be upset about.

OF COURSE it's happened. That's my point. If you slough it off just because it doesn't currently affect you, what do you think is going to occur in the future? Isn't it desirable to have people back you up on principle regardless of whether that particular action has a direct impact on their lives?

OF COURSE they should be scrutinized. That's why there is an application process and groups aren't just granted a tax exempt status simply by forming. The outrage is over groups of varying ideologies being subjected to a more intrusive application process based on nothing more than words that appear in their name.

And you'd prefer they use Rune Stones.

    Ok, I guess that's a good option.
  • I think it is a sad state of our public school system that critical thinking is not taught anymore. I find it lacking in many of the anti Obama supports who say outrageous things about the President or embellish facts. You can not blame FOX news for them. I do think that what these Obama bashers do with their lies and embellishments is just as bad as the bush whackers did with Bush.
I find the people who do not see anything wrong with the "so called scandals and just think it is Fox News ginning up the story and the Republicans way of wasting time" are scariest type of fellow citizens and there fervor for Obama leaves them blind to any thinking at all when it comes to what happened during the last Presidential election.
Every one of these so called scandals happened because of the election.
I do not think the president order the IRS stuff, but someone close to him(Emanuel) knew about and I can not image that he was not told . I do think Obama gave the order to stand down orders at Benghazi. And the reason is that we had a lot of CIA at the embassey and if it had come out during the election. :fp:
