We went to 5 shows this tour and it closed every single one. What's more is that the Star Spangled Banner was played every single time. After the first night in San Francisco we decided the start of the Star Spangled Banner was a good time to start heading for the exit. We were still able to hear the ending every night. We just had a huge head start on everybody else leaving the venue. It got very predicatable by the end of the tour though.06/22/95, 11/04/95, 11/15/97, 07/16/98, 10/30/99, 10/30/00, 10/31/00, 10/20/01, 10/21/01, 12/08/02, 06/01/03, 06/06/03, 10/25/03, 10/26/03, 09/28/04, 03/18/05, 09/01/05, 07/15/06, 07/16/06, 07/18/06, 07/22/06, 07/23/06, 10/21/06, 10/22/06, 08/28/09, 09/21/09, 09/22/09, 05/20/10, 05/21/10, 10/24/10, 11/26/13, 12/06/13, 06/28/14, 10/26/14, 07/10/18, 08/10/18, 10/02/21,0 -
Okay, time to retire "Yellow Ledbetter"
You're nuts. 99.9% of the crowd really digs it-- it's a huge sing-along. Most people can't go to 15 shows a tour.0 -
wow...i have never even thought about leaving a show early. i relish every second i get to hear PJ play. i love ledbetter. i've heard it many times. don't care. i really don't care what they choose to play. sure, i get excited when they play one of my personal favs, but i've never left a show saying "damn, i wish they would've played _______.". i am always on such a high after seeing them at all. maybe i'm weird. i've also heard this discussion about evenflow. i love that evenflow as well. if they don't play a certain song, it gives me something to look forward to next time. still have never heard that footsteps! maybe next time!
keep the ledbetter!VHC member #155***

Yellow Ledbetter is like the cigarette after a 3 hour fuckfest.
They could play it a little less and close more shows with Indifference, but no way retire it."If no one sees you, you're not here at all"0 -
What about the fan that only get to go to one show due to economic or geographic constraints? Should he be denied of that beautiful 'Good Night, we'll see you next time...' that Mike's old Stratocaster sings?
I hope I never get so jaded as to tire of this song.
...
and apparently... neither do these guys:

No way should they ever retire it, but I don't think they should play twice in the same city.0

Yellow Ledbetter is great. I like singing along with a totally hoarse voice and not knowing a single word. Good times, keep it. If you don't like it, go home and beat the traffic.
They can feel free to retire Baba O'Riley any time though.10 million dune buggies comin' down the mountain0 -
Why the hell would they ever retire Yellow Ledbetter?
Because a bunch of people on the internet want something different at the end of the bootleg concerts they weren't at?
I'm sorry, but the 20000 or so people at every Pearl Jam show who don't follow them around would probably like to hear it.0 -
Never, ever, never, ever..i believe it's mike's decision and i respect him for that and i am fairly certain that he loves to play this song and i love to hear it. live, recorded or as a distant memory
rock on mike and play the blues for the crowd
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green0 -
haha Worst. Idea. Ever.0

Let's see... this is not a committee.
How about the best band in the world who has given us more than we deserve play whatever they want when they want.
We're not talking about Creed people, wake up.
Geez... I won't get to see them on this tour and you "I go to every PJ show and have no life otherwise" fans sit around and whine about what's played?
Tell you what, once you've actually written a song that gets played before more fans than the begrudging attendees at a karaoke or open mic night... then you get input on retiring it.0 -
Egos are left at the door, elitism is non-existant and we are all joining together for a common goal: to raise funds and awareness while living the awesome life of a Pearl Jam Fan.

they shouldn't retire it...maybe just not close with it all the time. it would be awesome if the opened with it once just to throw things off a little. i mean they opened with betterman and last kiss this tour. so why not.My whole life looked like a picture of a sunny day.

I have seen other songs close the show and nothing leaves that smile on your face like ledbetter. it is kinda bittersweet in a way cause when mike hits those first couple of notes you know it is time to go. but i love that song. and another point along those lines. if they play yellow ledbetter and leave the stage you know it is safe to leave. but if they play something else to close then until the house lights come up and they start tearing the stage down you can't be sure if the show is actually over or not.My whole life looked like a picture of a sunny day.

Definitely time to retire YL. Never really liked it. Think Release would be a great finisher.0
