In my opinion, rape would be a "power" crime or "hate of thyself" crime - one who truly is not at peace with themselves turn to crime. And crime usually involves some type of hate.

Using, say, a gun on someone for the purpose of taking what they have (or taking their body) IS about power and, I'd imagine, not thinking too highly of themselves.

The reason Trayvon was so popular was because of the circumstances and who was involved. Many of the Chicago deaths are normal, sadly, and nothing "new." Most of it is gang on gang. I am not disagreeing with you, it is a shame that one case is spotlighted and not others, but it is no surprise why it was spotlighted.
