NME have just reported:
"Damage caused by the weather has occurred throughout the site, and many bands are waiting to see if their equipment is salvageable. It is possible that damage caused could effect future dates by the bands involved.
The event, which was due to feature the likes of My Chemical Romance, The Killers, Linkin Park and headliners Pearl Jam, has been suspended for the day. "

However I think it's unlikely PJs stage gear would have been in harms way as it's most likely it was in trucks behind the main stage...however they may have had their own lighting set up already as they were headlining, as they did at Reading last year :-(0 -
Is Lydia and Patrick ok??? If you guys are on the boards, send a message home so we know you are safe!I knew all the rules, but the rules did not know me...GUARANTEED!

At least they have a few days before the London show to get things worked out. Thankfully no one is seriously injured.
Really wacky weather. My friends at the show said it was hot as hell, then it rained really hard for a bit.. then eased up -- then bam... 3 huge wind gusts blew threw the venue. They were right in front of the stage... so didn't see too much of the chaos, which was near the back where the towers fell.
They are, of course, disappointed to not see the show, but very happy that most everyone is okay.Robot Boy wrote:NME have just reported:

Evidently some crazy weather hit. Heat, then rain, then finally massive wind gusts with hail. The gusts knocked over some lighting and speaker towers - which fell on people. So, some people have been hurt. I could hear sirens in the background as we talked. This all happened as My Chemical Romance was getting ready to take the stage. No stages collapsed, but banners and things have fallen and are blowing around.
Riot Police we're brought in to move the crowds out... but nothing too crazy has happened with them.
Right now, they are hanging tough, trying to find out what's going on... holding out for PJ.
This is a typical Phoenix monsoon storm. The wind gusts (dust storms) can be, and often are, very bad and with very heavy rain following, not to mention the lightning. The good news is they are generally short storms but very powerful.
I just hope that the injuries are at a minimal and are not serious. This is not what they had in mind when they walked out the door very excited about seeing their favorite band. I am sure everyone is helping each other out there. That is what this Pearl Jam family is all about!06/05/2003 - San Diego

For this reason whoever posted something on rm that someone posted probably on another board that someone thought that someone might have seen, that maybe happened, that someone died, is totally unacceptable in my opinion. There is no such thing as leftover pizza. Latest news from TV:
22/23 people were taken to the hospital, no one is seriously injured.
it was a person from hospital staff to speak, thus the information are surely well-founded0 -
Wow...I'm so sorry to hear about this!
I'm glad it didn't get worse - deaths, etc...
I'm sorry many had to miss this show and I'm sure it scared PJ with their history.
I'm glad everyone is ok, though! :(JA: Why do I get the Ticketmaster question?
EV: It's your band.

This is the story of a witness, from the italian forum http://pearljam.forumcommunity.net/?t=7047919&st=105#lastpost
I've just returned from Venice, all ok for me. No panic scene, at least where i was, nearby the stage. In my opinion structures were made of papier mache. However, the important thing is that no one was seriously injured. For what concerns the rest, a big bitterness. People where very quiet, it rained for 15 mins, not more, and it flush away all our waitings [for the show]. I was under a stand of that fuckin beer [heniken], it remained up perfectly. The intere area is under attachment for clarifying responisibilities.0 -

Apparently, he got the information from someone who spoke italien. Anyway, he soon edited his post to the death being unconfirmed. People speaking in different languages can often result in confusion. I don' blame the guy for writing this. He just reported what an italien person told him.
Im glad to hear that no one lost their lives!I will swallow poison0
