Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard discussed the band’s upcoming show at Wrigley Field in the latest issue of Illinois Entertainer.

“The Chicago show is coming and we are already beginning to think about it. We really want to make it a special experience. Ed’s been putting a lot of thought into it and I think it’s going to be a great night. It’s a dream of his to play Wrigley Field and we’re excited about following him in there. He’s had this in his head for awhile. It’s taken us some time to figure out how to do it, but we’re real excited.”

Pearl Jam will perform to a sold out crowd at Wrigley Field on July 19th.

I don't think so. It's too much of a downer. Ed seems too pumped up in recent "special" shows to open Wrigley with HTI. It's going to be Long Road or Release or something uptempo but I guarantee not HTI. We'll see soon enough if I'm wrong...

it was called grungereport.net until just recently. the guy who owns it also posts on here, his name is scottstappsucks.

there's a poster that appeared out of nowhere on that site (a guy called PJ) that commented back in May that the big announcement coming would be July 8th, and there would be a one week countdown to that date. Low and behold, he was right on the money, so now Brett (scottstappsucks) is taking everything he says as gospel.

  • Chicago has hosted quite a few "special" shows over the years (PJ20-sorta, Lolla, The Vic, Soldier Field, etc.).

Right in my own backyard and I feel fortunate enough to have experienced a few of them.

Hope beyond hope that this one lives up to the hype and tops them all!!
Hey, hey. My, my. Rock and roll can never die.

Thanks for the info. I really hope he is wrong about there being a song from Uke Songs on the new album....

If it's going to be "special", throw the "rules" out the door. And I don't know if this is counting as a "Chicago" show seeing as they are expecting a national crowd, given the travel packages and all.

    But...

In regards to Ed checking previous setlists in a town and trying to show the natives something they haven't seen before, they opened with Hard to Imagine at Chicago 2 in '09.
AskPearlJam: PearlJama101-guest says: Who's idea was it for Eddie to play banjo on "Soon Forget"?
Eddie: I don't know whose idea it was but it was turned down.
