Another day ruined by gun owners shooting.

No, not somebody being shot, just gun owners in the neighborhood exercising their "right" to fire their guns. Yep, it's totally legal here in Helldorado County, CA. I don't know about other places, but this is the mentality of NRA types in my neighborhood.

fuck your right to peace and quiet. the 2nd amendment is in the bill of rights that was hand delivered to us by jesus, so your right to peace and quiet is null and void. you want that right, pray to jesus and maybe he will make another amendment."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

how come my band gets busted for practicing too loud, yet use of a lethal weapon that is just as loud is ok?"You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

How does one hearing gunshots differentiate between 'fun' and 'crime? I'd be calling the police every time to get it checked out. How annoying would that be for the shooters being interrupted during their playtime? Unfortunately, it could waste valuable police resources...0

If they would just listened to what Jimi said: "Instead of marching down the streets with guns we should, ah, march down the streets with electric guitars".
My first guitar teacher suggested that if my playing bugs the neighbors, line the walls with egg cartons. They worked surprisingly well."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

I moved from another place in this county where the same thing was going on. Turns out the perpetrator was an off duty cop shooting at home. I guess I need to move... again. :("It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
I get pissed when I am fishing out back and jerk boat owners go by fast scaring away the fish I might have caught.....but they are allowed to because it is not posted as a no wake zone......guess I'll catch the next fish that comes along
Things could be worse....

Can they see that you are there fishing? Could you post a "Fishing Hole, Please Pass Slowly" sign or something to that effect?
I'd like to think most people are considerate of this kind of thing but, unfortunately, it only takes one or two uncaring people to make waves (pun). I wish I could shrug the shooting off the way you are able to with the boaters, Aerial. Kudos to you for that.
The shooting wrecks my nerves and drives me right into a state of massive anxiety."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
isn't this why they have gun ranges? i have been to shooting ranges and they make you wear ear protection. i suppose you can always have earmuffs readily available brian, because why inconvenience the shooters by complaining, right?"You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

I hate to hear about your anxiety.....can you turn up your music maybe? Thanks for the idea about making my own sign. I can't believe I didn't think of that :fp:“We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.” Abraham Lincoln0 -

Yes and there is a shooting range only four or five miles from here but some people here seem to think they are still living in the Old West or a cowboy movie. Mostly though it is because they are lazy and selfish and, as you say, don't want to be inconvenienced.
If I had the power of the gods, I'd heal this land and give this place back to the Miwok Indians with their grinding stones and baskets and bows and sit around with them and strum guitars and play Crazy Horse tunes. Meanwhile, I continue to make plans for my getaway."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

so when you say neighborhood what does that mean exactly? how much land are you on? how close are your neighbors? because when i think "neighborhood" i think a street with a bunch of houses right next to each other.brianlux wrote:No, not somebody being shot, just gun owners in the neighborhood exercising their "right" to fire their guns. My neighbor hood is semi-rural. Because it lies outside city limits, it's considered county and it is legal to shoot in this county outside city limits (probably true most places). The properties are larger than suburban lots but not all that far apart and certainly too close to be firing guns but people do it anyway because its "legal"- never mind that it is discourteous and that most people in the area would prefer to live without the invasive noise, not to mention safety issues. Besides, that's what firing ranges are for and this county has at least two of them.
One of these days one of those bullets is going to careen off a rock and, adios amigos. I'm sure the animals around here are not happy with the shooting as well. Maybe that's the problem- I am an animal, after all.
Alright, enough of my complaining. It's something I cannot change."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
roger that, i was asking because my parents are on 14 acres outside city limits. in this county it's legal to shoot guns on your land if you have more than ten acres. i constantly hear my neighbors shooting anything from single shot rifles to pistols to full auto machine guns. i've never heard the shots while indoors despite the fact it's going on all around me. but being outside it just sounds like fireworks to me.if you think what I believe is stupid, bizarre, ridiculous or outrageous.....it's ok, I think I had a brain tumor when I wrote that.0

Machines guns? Whoa! But then, we had a neighbor that used to fire off a canon about once a month. I'm waiting for the first nuke to go off in the neighborhood.
Your folks' house must have terrific insulation. I need some of that!"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
Brian sounds like your laws are kind of lax?? if indeed it's legal shooting.
It's illegal to discharge a firearm in my county except in the protection of a person's life
or property as with most counties here.
Rural counties vary but most you need 10 acres of land to be able to shoot on your property.
A few years ago a mother was sitting at her computer in a nearby rural county
and was shot and killed by some kids who skipped school and were target shooting in their
backyard which were sizable country type lots.
Not sure if it was illegal or if that incident changed laws.
Maybe you can work to get your laws changed before an accident happens.0 -

A cannon! Wow. I live about 20 miles from Fort Knox and we can hear them when they start practice. I won't pretend that I have any idea what they are firing but last time it happened a couple of weeks ago, the repercussions were so loud, 20 miles away(!), that many neighbors were calling the police to find out what was going on because Fort Knox is not usually that bad!Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...
