The question is: which mental illnesses count and which do not?

Exactly. Do you say someone with anorexia is on the same level as someone, like myself, who suffers from bipolar disorder?

you can answer that question yourself, would your disorder cause you to buy a gun and do a crime ?
I don't know the experiances of bipolar but I would think that mixing some drugs with such a disorder could cause some to use a gun in a crime....and that falls into a whole new legalize drugs debate.

    Godfather.

Speaking from experience, I would have to say no. When I go through one of my extreme lows, or highs when having an "episode", I'm no more prone to violence then when on an even keel.
I can only speak for myself, but I would think someone suffereing from bipolar would have to be prone to be a violent person as is for the effects of the disorder to make them go on a shooting spree.
    Peace, Love.

Wolf; I was thinking people with parnoid scitzofrina disorders(no spelling jokes) or severe mentaly disabling disorders would fall into the no gun rule, my nephew (passed) was a down syndrom kid and I wouldn't have wanted him to have a gun but I think all this is pretty basic common sense stuff on who not to sell to.

Honestly, yeah. It would drive me to do that. Luckily my mania has never gotten anywhere close to wanting to harm others. Now when it comes to hurting myself, yeah...I think I'd get a gun for that. I mean, the thought of "I can cut myself" or "I can take XX number of pills and I'll be gone" are thoughts I struggle with almost daily. So keep a gun the hell away from me. If there was a way of submitting your name and personal information into a database that could be checked, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Not in Illinois. We are disarmed. Well unless you are a hood or a politician in Chicago.
and why is it that you all in IL do not have concealed carry? perhaps maybe you have the only state congress that has any balls.

you will get it though, because the nra will purchase it for you.

I have not seen this story on the news, it was not spoke of here in Atl that I heard.

It was a domestic situation, a retaliation towards certain extended "family" members
    yes?

    http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013 ... -condition

The killer's own daughter was being taken from him complicated by these people he murdered,
at least that was the last I had read the day of the shooting.

We are prepared to see more and more violence from people who feel they are being
treated unjustly, the 'not going to take it anymore syndrome'.
Mental illness can very much exemplify this. We saw it here with our recent incident when
a man took firemen hostage to get his life back in order. No sense to that in a right mind...
but we are not dealing with right minds. We are dealing with people who just don't care anymore.
