well, that's better than some of the prices that I've seen for the original press.
or, you could get the whole boxset for the same amount on popmarket/amazon/etc.
Exactly
Which is why I'm glad that I didn't pull the trigger on the original press earlier this year. It was in my hands....and had been at the top of my wishlist (with Benny Hall) for years. But I couldn't justify spending that much ($300) on one album, which is the same problem that I have with Benny.
For me, it's not about original press or reissue, it's about having a playable copy of one of my favorite albums. I don't keep my vinyl sealed, I tear it open & play it. When the boxsets were announced, it's safe to say that I was pretty fucking happy. I didn't own Echo or Last DJ either, so this was a no-brainer for me. I sold some records here in Lost Dogs and some to friends and I was all set.
I've already listened to She's The One & Echo from the boxset & they sound amazing. I'm not an expert by any means & my setup isn't ground breaking at all...but they sound so damn good.
That's how I feel about vinyl too. I like to open it up and listen to it. I buy limited release items, if I can get them at face value or a reasonable price, but I play them and take care of them. And if some day I'm sitting on a small fortune that's just a bonus. I'm going to enjoy them while I have them.
But yeah, I have a hard time justifying a big price tag for a record. That boxset would be awesome.
Now that's one off my radar! How is it, quality wise?
It's really good. It's from 1985, RCA had a whole 50th Birthday marketing thing around some releases. I have a 1958 pressing, but it's a little rough, so this is my go to. Silent and flat. Now, I don't have any of the recent Friday Music releases so I really can't compare those to this one, but this one does sound nice.
