I would rather see Pearl Jam ONCE than 100 Ed Solo Shows

I touched on this in a different thread and I can'y help but revisit it here. I love that the main complaint with the solo tour seems to be that he didn't change up the setlist enough. You know how you could have avoided this "travesty"? Got to one freaking show!! These were small venues with a limited number of available tickets. Let someone else enjoy the experience. I don't blame the Ten Club site for the ticket issues I blame those who filled there carts with multiple shows while completely diregarding anyone else. Now you have the nerve to get online and complain that hearing Millworker three times was too much!? It seems likely to me that you were the same ones shouting out song requests on a nightly basis. I believe Eddie referred to you as "Pricks". Pretty accurate.
On a positive note.....LA 1 was amazing and just the latest chapter in a long story of great shows and great music by Pearl Jam and pretty much all of the bands that they have chosen to open for them.0 -

Agreed. Except not all of us who went to multiple shows are complaining. I have no problem at all with hearing *mostly* the same songs on consecutive nights. I fucking loved hearing Arc, Throw Your Arms Around Me, Porch, Hard Sun, etc. twice. Fucking LOVED it.
And, to give Ed credit, he DID tinker with the setlist a bit EVERY night, at least when he was playing the same city twice. I think we have all gotten spoiled with Pearl Jam's hugely significant setlist changes. Let us not lose sight of the fact that there are MANY bands out there who go out and play the EXACT same setlist every night, regardless of their vast repoitore of material. Hell, one of my former favorite bands -- Live -- has been playing essentially the exact same setlist for the last few YEARS. So Eddie, with his limited catalog and solo experience, should be commended for not submitting to "sameness" every night, I think.
In addition, he went out of his way to make nearly every city special in some way. From the song he wrote for Santa Cruz to the poem he read for Santa Barbara to the birthday song for his Grandma Margaret in L.A. to the ovation for his mother in San Diego -- not to mention the Sean Penn / Mike McCready / Jack Irons / Ben Harper / Emile Hirsch appearances -- nearly every city got their own special "moment" to remember. How many other artists or bands would do that shit?Everything has chains...Absolutely nothing's changed. - PJ

From the descriptions of his shows right now I'd rather see Ed solo in a small theatre than PJ in a large auditiorium. A cool change and something VERY new.
Its just me, but I really can't say that about PJ over the last few tours. Some cool new tunes, but nothing as original as what Ed's doing solo lately. No slam on the band...but right now seeing Ed solo would take precidence for me.
Even if certain folks thought Ed got repetitious.....0 -

I love how Pearl Jam always keeps us guessing with what they will play next, I just can't wait to see them again!
You obviously did not catch one of Ed's shows.Steve

EV solo was not a PJ show. It is a different kind of show PERIOD (the energy, the mood, etc.)...you cannot "compare" the two. What Ed did was incredible. He wanted to show his musical influences and a different dimension to his skillset (I had no idea he could play guitar like that)...with all due respect, next time (if there is a next time), I sincerely hope everyone looking for an unplugged PJ set just don't come...it sucks that Ed's association with Pearl Jam attracts so many idiots (the shouters and drunks) - anyone else think that maybe he didn't switch up the set because it took a lot of time and practice to get comfortable enough to get up there alone and play 25-30 songs? IF Ed decides to keep doing this and release more of his own material, I have no doubts the sets will loosen up - I just hope the crowd learns to shut the fuck up.0

It must be looked at it in proper context. It WAS NOT a Pearl Jam show.
Given the choice, I would definitely pick a PJ show over an Eddie show, but I would have killed to have been able to see Eddie and I would have enjoyed because he did exactly what I would have expected him to doAll I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

1 Pearl Jam Show = $70.00 (give ot take)?
100 Ed Shows = $70.00 x 100 = $7,000.00

Yeah... that's what I was wondering...
Would we have to buy 100 tickets and travel to 100 cities to see Ed in his solos shows?
Or would the cost be equal... in that we get 100 Ed solo shows for the same price as one Pearl Jam show?
Because, if I can see 100 Ed solos shows for the price of one Pearl Jam show... I'm going with the 100 Ed solo gigs.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Well, I agree ... in part because the Ed solo shows were pretty much the same, setlist wise. 100 of them would probably get tedious.
Now, if you were to ask me at this point in my PJ touring career whether I'd want to see 1 Ed show or 1 full band show ... it would be a tough call.everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do0 -

The thing is, if you look at all ten shows as a whole, he played 46 different songs over 10 shows which is much better than what most artists do while on tour.
We are just spoiled by the fact that PJ plays such diverse setlists every night.- Busted down the pretext

I wouldn't go that far...the Ed shows were incredible, IMO.
At this very moment, if you gave me the choice between an Ed solo tour next summer and a Pearl Jam tour (assuming no new album for either), i'd choose Ed solo.Shows: Montreal 98, Barrie 98, Montreal 00, Montreal 03, Montreal 05, Ottawa 05, Toronto 06, Vancouver Night 1 08 (EV), Vancouver Night 2 08 (EV), MSG1 08, MSG2 08, Montreal Night 2 08 (EV), Toronto Night 1 08 (EV), Toronto 09, Hartford 11 (EV), Ottawa 11, Ottawa 16, Ottawa 22.0 -

His Pearl Jam fandom got him riled up. The way PJ crowds fuel the band is great. He assumed that would happen at the concerts for which he had tickets. The band not only stood in the exact same spots - they also sang the exact duplicate songs, the second night! He paid $150.00 for each show - expecting a variety of change-ups, banter and encores. The second $150 was a painful lesson learned. He will never do that again - it was a costly mistake.Everyone is born, but not everyone is born the same. Some will grow to be butchers, or bakers, or candlestick makers. Some will only be really good at making Jell-O salad. One way or another, though, every human being is unique, for better or for worse.0 -
