Japan was grey and rainy, so waking up to the sun this morning was wonderful. We’re near a waterfront park, and I take advantage of the good weather and head down for an early morning run. The birds here are incredible and weird: pigeon-like things with giant pink heads, parrots, enormous pelicans.
Taylor, his tech Yeti, and I go out for some go karting later in the afternoon, which is alright, except that we’re not allowed to drive the fast karts without first proving ourselves on the little ones. Yeti, incredulous, attempts to persuade the pimply kid standing between us and the fast karts with a little logic, “I’m a 35 year old man, don’t you think I’m capable of riding a go kart!?” Rules, apparently, are rules, though and we’re denied. Still fun.
Next day I go for a game of golf with Ian and Beebe, which is really Nothing Left to Lose of us. The birds are squealing and yelling in the trees so loudly that it sounds like we’re on the set of a Tarzan film.condescending and sarcastic since 19800 -

My Grandfather served with the 2/26th Infantry Battalion. they left Australia on the 24th July 1941 bound for Singapore. The Japanese attacked Singapore on 8th February 1942. They could not stop the Japanese, and on 15th February the British commander on Singapore surrendered. The 2/26th spent the next three and a half years as prisoners of war in Changi.
My Grandfather wrote a book of his experiences during the war, I can recall watching my mum typing the book from his hand written notes, in tears most nights.
This will be the 1st ANZAC day without my Grandfather.

Lest We Forget.
My grandfather arrived in Pearl Harbour the day after the attack. He was meant to arrive the day before, but something happened which i am not sure of that delayed there arrival. If it didn't, i wouldn't be here to talk to you. I'm going to the dawn service. It's a every year thing, dad wakes us up, head to the service, family gathering, breakfast at the RSL then sleep.0
